Being able to touch, wash, feed and interact with these majestic animals was unreal. The money generated from elephant tourism goes directly to the CRU- Conservation Response Unit an NGO dedicated to combatting the illegal logging and poaching that threatens the jungle and the former habitat of these elephants. Although not an ideal living arrangement for wild beasts the alternative... More

My girlfriend and I wavered on coming here for quite some time due to the negative TripAdvisor reviews, finally deciding the night prior to go through with it. We are very glad we did. We had a lot of talks with locals in Bukit Lawang and Tangkahan, people who were born and raised in the jungle in times prior to... More

I didn't enjoy this at all. Elephant rocking their heads is a sign of stress - just like zoo animals. Their enclosure was REALLY small for all the elephants and their babies. Also the elephant riding... it's not humane and only stupid people who doesn't really love animals do it. Everything just felt like a circus. Nothing educational whatsoever and... More

The road towards Tangkahan is horrible. Long drives towards muddy, uneven road. Our vehicle even got stuck a couple of times. Sure, it's an eco-centric destination, but it's nothing special... more of the same rainforest which you can find anywhere else in Indonesia and rest of Southeast Asia. If you have never seen elephants before, then by all means go... More

We visited from Bukit Lawang for an 'hour' experience. We travelled for many hours to get there and waited several hours more before we could 'wash' the elephants. The whole experience lasted 15 minutes because it was raining. What a poor excuse. Tangkahan is situated near a rainforest! The guide from Tangkahan told us that it was very expensive to... More

They give the elephants a bad treatment, kicking them , pulling them by the ears, hitting them with metal sticks. I regretted financing this and wouldn't recommend you to do so.

It is amazing to ride the elephants through the jungle and through the river. A great experience to know the wild life at North Sumatra. At the end you can feed and wash the elephants, that really enjoy to be washed. A great, great experience, impossible not to love!

First I had mixed feelings about this trip, but then I decided because of the kids and we all enjoyed cooling down in the river with the elephants. The rangers were amazing, really informative and kind. I was really happy, because elephants were really enjoying the bath and scrubbing. This was really fun and I can highly recommend.

This was an amazing experience. The elephants were extremely interactive, through playing in the water, to physically washing and feeding them. To top of the experience I received a shower from two elephants and some great photos with them.

I am a huge wildlife lover, and especially when it involves interacting with animals up close and personally. I had read some negative & positive reviews of this place, and at first was reluctant to come but did in the end come and visit since it was affordable. I arrived to see the elephants in a small pasture, with little... More
