I hired Pentai (+62 853 6361 3494) to be my guide for a half day canyon trek. He was great. He carefully led me through the jungle, up and down the side of the canyon, across the river and then through an agricultural village where stopped to talk to farmer and see an incredible array of produce being grown. As per my request, he also patiently worked with me all day on my Bahasa Indonesia (as I had requested he to). After 5 hours I was exhausted, but in a good way. I think we walked half way to Lake Maninjau before a surrendered. Then we took a bus back to Bukit TInggi. Great day out.

Ngarai Sianok is another “a must visit” while you are at Bukittinggi. Located at the center of Bukittinggi city and not too far from “Jam Gadang”, you can expect to enjoy a nature valley with a lot of greeneries. With entrance fee of IDR 15,000 per person for adult and around IDR 10,000 per person for child, you can enjoy the beauty of Sianok Valley. The location has been preserve and well maintain, so you can enjoy the nature and taking picture with no disruption. You can enjoy the valley from both sides (above and below), while you will be required to walk down the steps or drive your car along the road towards the river. Highly recommended for those who loves nature.
