Jam Gadang is a city square in the heart of Bukittinggi. A number of restaurants, local stores, local food can be found here. Sianok Valley can be seen from here, the weather was definitely not as hot as Padang, the capital of West Sumatra Province. We came here in the afternoon to enjoy the scenery and take some photos. Since it's Sunday afternoon, it was quite crowded. Families, friends visited this place, sitting around chit-chatting, children running around. We also enjoyed live performance of a group coming from Padang just to entertain the crowds. The crowds got bigger at night to enjoy the live performance.

The very first time I am here a few years back and now...this place has really changed a lot. New building for Pasar Ateh Bukittinggi ready for opening soon. Jam Gadang is the most popular landmark of Bukittinggi. Now the market area is more organised and the surrounding area has more green than ever...nice spots for photos and cool place to relax after shopping. A must place for tourists who are looking for cheaper material and souveniers.

Bukittinggi Clock Tower or 'Jam Gadang' as local people called was square place in centre of Bukittinggi city. Many people visit this place enjoying the Sianok Valley views, see local attraction, buy special local woven fabric ('kain tenun') as special token from Bukittinggi and also enjoy look around the city by riding horse-drawn carriage. Around this place you also found 'Bung Hatta Palace' as one of special heritage from Bukittinggi City. Bukittinggi is also known as motherland of many well known Indonesia figures as Bung Hatta, Buya Hamka etc.
