The museum is small but shows many old map, photos and collections. It gives you a rough introduction about the history of Surabaya. If you have nothing to do, can go there and see see.

Rather it has a random collections, it is a good tiny musem of Surabaya city. It located in the public service mall. I walked to Siola building about 20 minutes from Tunjungan Plaza. It is totally free to enter the museum but I have to ask the security officer where the enterence of the museum.

It has a lot of pictures, from the old maps of Surabaya, the city mayors, to the old buildings photos. It has many of dutch time marital and birth records, furnitures, and random collections.

I cannot fund any guide in the museum but foreigners can understand the museum collections, they provide bilingual explanation card infront every collections.

This contains a apparently random collection of items relating to the city's past from documents to Los medical instruments. Some were more interesting than others but then different people are interested in different things.
I felt that the museum needed a good curator to put some order or thematic approach to the collection.
Although it was interesting to have the old documents in the museum they should really be in a special archive building that is temperature controlled. It would be a dreadful loss if these records were damaged.

Unable to rate as currently closed due to the pandemic. Ground floor seems to have been turned into a government service centre. Tourist office advised that this is one of a number of tourist attractions that are currently closed (House of Sampoerna is another along with the city day tours).

As a local who left the city for years. This museum should be a great place to bring back those memories. The museum is too tiny and untidy to allocate the richness of Surabaya heritages. The decor should be more thematic with the displayed collection.

Actually the location of the museum is really really strategic (inside the Siola building) Surabaya people can easily reach the museum and everyone can entry the museum for free, but i think the collection isnt really attractive and how they manage the museum isnt very well.

Museum Surabaya is located at the historical site of Siola, next to Electronic Tunjungan Center. It is resided at the first floor.

I was really impressed with the collection that they displayed in here. There are plenty varieties of material cultures, but my fave is actually is the old notes left by colonials for birth, marriage, and dead registration. Unfortunately these material cultures are poorly executed by the museum design. In my opinion, since the museum offered so many varieties of objects, it is a necessary to create a focus in every classification. Instead of creating a focus in every classification, they create a see through partition that enables visitors to see every material cultures on display. It becomes a bit noisy and distracted in the same way.
