At first we even thought that we had the wrong address - we were going to the temple, but ended up at the indoor sports ground. Large and covered. It turned out not! We arrived where we needed to go. The sports ground is the courtyard of the temple. The main temple, small and beautiful, right behind the site. There are temple buildings around. On the playground, kids play basketball and kids frolic. What a wonderful design for the temple complex! The temple itself is also very interesting. I didn’t even believe at first that it was a mosque. It is clearly visible that this is some kind of Confucian temple. But no - a mosque! Chinese.

The mosque was built here by the Chinese Muslim community. In the architecture of this mosque, you can see elements of both Chinese and Islamic cultures. There are Malaysian and local Indonesian elements. Dedicated to Cheng Hu, a Chinese Muslim admiral. It is stated that during his travels in Southeast Asia, he not only traded and made many friends, but also helped spread the religion of Islam. Many similar mosques have been built throughout Java and Sumatra. A large banner with their list hangs on the wall at the entrance.

If you know the history of the place, you will have a wonderful feeling. This is the place where the two religions integrated nicely together - A Muslim Mosque inside the Buddist Temple. It is very rare and it also proved that people from different religions can coexist with each other - without WAR.......

This building looks like a temple or pagoda, but actually it's a masjid (mosque),
Zheng Hoo ( 鄭和) Mosque. The building has a unique architectural design, which combines elements of local Palembang culture with Chinese and Arabic architecture.

The mosque was built on 5,000 square meters of land in a middle-class housing complex. There are some history information about this mosque on the wall side and some drawing arts near the mosque. The field here is bigger than the mosque. The mosque building is small and able to accommodate around 600 worshipers only. It should be bigger for beautiful and unique mosque like this.

I ever prayed here, and the Imam (leader) was a Chinese Muslim Man, his voice is good and fluent. It's very nice experience.

Cheng Ho Mosque, located in Gading Street Surabaya. The mosque has an oriental architecture with a touch of the game and the high level of art there sininya, which symbolizes the acculturation of Chinese, Javanese and Islam. Acculturation is poured in a mixture of colors between green, turning to yellow and red.

This building is a typical Chinese architecture with the incorporation of the "Joglo 'Java. It also shows the cultural mix of China and Jawayang has existed since time immemorial. Cheng Ho Mosque name is taken from the name of Admiral Cheng Ho, is an Admiral of China and became a Muslim during the Majapahit entered.

Form of Cheng Ho Mosque terinpirasi from Niu Jei Mosque in Beijing, China, which was built in 996 AD and was completed on March 10, 2002 and was opened in 13 Octobers, 2002. Overall, the mosque can accommodate 200 worshipers.

Associated with the interior, there are many Chinese interion touches in every corner of the mosque. For example, the Pagoda is in the entrance. There is also a dragon and a lion made of wax with reading the word of God and made in Arabic at the top of the Pagoda. On the left side of the building, no drum is always part of a large mosque.

The mosque building has eight sides and each number has its own meaning according to Islamic beliefs and China. Number 11 symbolizes the size of the Kaaba, and the number nine is to describe the 'Wali Songo' as spreaders of Islam in Java. While the figure of eight symbolize pat kwa that mean luck or glorious that.

It is rather small. But historically significant. As both a mosque and a monument dedicated to one of the most prominent traders to bring Islam to Indonesia, I think this place deserves a visit, even if a short one. Besides the building itself, there is a little koi pond to the side that's nice to stare at. It certainly puts one at ease and makes for a nice tranquil atmosphere. The one thing I didn't like about this place, though, was the basketball court/gymnasium built in front of/around it. First, this made it very difficult to see and find the actual mosque building, despite the signs pointing to its location placed around the neighborhood. Second, it really detracts from the beauty and significance of the building itself. It's almost as if the basketball court/gymnasium was built to overwhelm or belittle the mosque building. There's even an overhang that, when viewed from afar, seems to tower over the mosque building. This I find grossly superfluous, as it makes it nearly impossible to take a good photo of the mosque building by itself without the overhang seemingly swallowing it up. (You can even see the overhang loom in the background of the profile picture.) One thing I did really like about the mosque, though, was its quiet atmosphere. Besides one other person praying, I was the only other person there. (Perhaps it's because of all the stuff built around it. Who knows?) In any case, if you're in the area, do come by and see it. Surabaya is not big on attractions, but this does happen to be one of them.

Clearly interesting to see a mosque that looks more like a temple but at the same time, there's not much to do here after taking a few pictures. Since the location is near to the city area, it's easy to visit.

Surabaya has some small community of Chinese Muslims either newly converts or desendence of Admiral Cheng Ho. The mosque is simple and has unique design. It is an open concept to allow all visitors to learn about the religion.

A very small mosque. Hidden behind main road and not easy to find even when you see the arch at the entrance to the alley. At the end of the road, the mosque shares the same ground with a school/office looking building that is the HQ for Chinese Muslim teaching in Surabaya. Mosque itself is very small (maybe about 160 sq m) but the architecture is uniquely Chinese. Not common in S.E. Asia but plentiful if you have travelled to Muslim areas in China. There are some information on Cheng Ho and that make this visit historically worthwhile.
