Nice monument but no history given that I could see. Scrawled on the one of the nearby pillars was Allied Forces Go Away and that really did it for me.

This place is in the central part of surabaya. Which brings the flavour of Surabaya's glorify history.
Well decorated and nicely organised. Good place to time pass with family and friends.
But its needed much more attractions.

Considering that this monument (and the whole memorial park) were built in early fifthies (opened in 1952), it is quite modern and well maintained.
Aside of main attraction - the 41 m high obelisk there are quite some other monuments in the Park, but one have to learn more to be able to recognize the importance of all presented figures.
We didn't have time to go to the museum, but just took unguided park tour using Google and the descriptions located aside of the monuments.

Visit the spot to feel the ambiance of heroic struggle of Arek-arek Suroboyo (Surabayan Youngsters) to defend their city back in November 1945. Make sure to go down into the museum that offers rich history as well as chic souvenirs.

A place that celebrates the heroic history of the country. Beautifully designed, with some beautiful bas-reliefs on the outside, a nice garden on the sides... a nice place to spend some time and delve into history.

The square in itself and the obelisk is nothing special. The small museum on the other hand is very interesting and for sure worth a visit. Entry fee for foreigners same as for Indonesians and that was a pleasant surprise. As solo traveling "londo" (white skin) you are often more of an attraction than the museum collection and be prepared to asked quite often to pose for pictures with several people. It takes time but it is always friendly asked.

Very good condition but the climate is very hot. Very dusty. Strategic location near port. Very crowded traffic at afternoon.

Historical monument for the people of Surabaya to remember the last big battle against the Dutch colonialism after the WW2. There is a diorama museum in underground. A must visit for everybody, who come to Surabaya
