I did the 3D/2N Ijen and Bromo combined tour for solo travellers. Overall I had a great experience doing this tour even if it was quite expensive. It was my first time to travel alone and everything went well especially thanks to my driver Hadi who was always here to coordinate everything and help me.
The accommodations were simple but clean. I always had hot water which I didn't expect at the beginning.
Regarding specific remarks:
1) The waterfalls were okay. Get prepared to get wet. I used my only raincoat for this activity and needed it for the Mount Bromo tour. When we arrived at the Bromo homestay it was freezing cold and I was still wet from the waterfalls. Fortunately, my raincoat could dry on time. Bring warm clothes.
2) For the Mount Bromo tour, I was ready at 3am as told. However, the jeep driver came around 3:40. It was quite a busy day as it was holidays for local people. Therefore, before arriving at the viewpoint, we were stuck in the traffic and I had to walk more than 2kms alone in the dark in a hurry to arrive at the King Kong hill view point to watch the sunrise (no guide was with me). The jeep driver didn't speak english and it was difficult to understand at what time I should get back to the jeep and how to reach the view point. After the sunrise, we headed to the crater. Our jeep driver gave us only one hour before getting back which was not sufficient time to walk and enjoy the place.
3) We had to wait around 20 minutes for my local Guide at Ijen. Except that, I had an amazing experience in Ijen. I have never seen a place like this, it's so interesting and beautiful. My local guide Eko was really nice and took great pictures 👍.
4) Be prepared to have an intense 3 days, without a lot of sleep: After airport pickup at 10:00 am, we headed straight to the waterfalls and finally reached the homestay in Bromo around 4:00pm. I woke up at 2:30 am for the sunrise and was back at the homestay at 8:30am. After having breakfast and checking out, we drove around 5 hours to reach the next homestay. We arrived at 2:30pm. The tour for Ijen started the same day at 11:30 pm (so almost no sleep). Back from Ijen, the drive to Surabaya took 6 hours.

I had an amazing experience in Surabaya all thanks to Sherry (Singapore sales representative), Agung (local representative), Kristien (Driver cum guide) & local guides (Matingle @ Kawah Ljen & Amal @ Madakaripura Waterfall).
Sherry & Agung were very patient with my questions prior to the trip. The information rendered were very helpful for me as I prepare for this solo trip.
Navigating the roads & itinerary was made all possible by Kristien's coordination & arrangement throughout the trip. He was also the one to arrange the local guides for me through the trek at Kawah Ljen & Madakaripura Waterfall. He led the sunrise trek at Mt Bromo, finding cool spots for photo taking. Also, he was considerate in working around the weather condition & time that allowed me to check off a few of things must dos at my pace. He is able speak english fairly well & is able to explain to my many curious questions.
Special thanks to the local guides, who patiently looked out for me when my legs are like jelly out of my irrational fear of falling. They are able to communicate minimal english & they are really good at what do in leading the way.
As for my homestay options, I was staying at Otix Guest House (Bromo) & Grafita House (Banyuwangi). The shower were a little cool & will be great if there is the option for having a warmer shower. The stay were basic but the hosts were hospitable. Both stay does not have kettle in the room but they were able to acceed to my hot drinking water requests.
It was a very pleasant experience for my solo adventure at Surabaya! :)

Friendly guide and locals, beautiful scenery.
For beginners going to Ijen, I would recommend wearing hiking shoes for better grip and bringing a hiking stick for support as the ascend up the mountain is steep and the descent down the crater is rocky and tough for a beginner. Fortunately we managed to catch a good view of the blue fire as a reward.
Bromo is more beginner friendly but hiking shoes and stick would be useful too. We were not lucky enough to have a clear view of Mount Bromo at sunrise as it was too foggy. Nonetheless, it was still a beautiful view.
For those going waterfall, remember to bring wet shoes and short pants. We had to forego the waterfall trip as it was not highlighted to us that wet shoes are essential although it is stated in the FAQs. It was a regret as we heard that the waterfall is amazing.
Those who are not professional photographers should not opt for milky way trip as you would not be able to see the milky way with your naked eyes or with a handphone camera.
Kudos to Sherry who was prompt and friendly in communicating with us via WhatsApp before we decided to book the trip, their rep in Indonesia who contacted us 1 day before our trip to confirm our flight details, and our guide Rama who was friendly and caring. The trip was seamless and we felt assured. The local guide at Ijen is also very helpful to provide us with torches as we did not bring any, and helped me greatly as a hiking beginner. We had a great time and experience and made wonderful memories.
The hotel El Royale at Ijen was great. We were given Jiwa Jawa at Bromo. Its resort style exterior looks amazing but the inside of the room is rather run down and the power sockets in the room are situated at weird inaccessible locations, e.g. under the bedside table which makes it difficult to plug in our chargers. There was also a power socket under the TV that was spoiled and hence we had 1 less power point option (Room 511). When we arrived at the room at around 5pm, the staff had just finished mopping the floor and the floor was still wet when we stepped inside. The towels smelt musty and the WiFi password which was supposed to work for 1 day keeps disconnecting. I had to request for a new password twice. Hence, the choice of hotel at Bromo could be improved.
Nonetheless, being from a tropical city, we thoroughly enjoyed the cool weather and beautiful mountain view at Bromo.

I did the 3D2N Mount Bromo Ijen VIP experience and it was nothing short of incredible. The accommodation for both nights were very clean and comfortable. Our driver, Arief, was a very smooth driver, making the long journeys between attractions a lot more bearable. He’s also very knowledgable about Indonesia and is very open to sharing it with us. We had an amazing time seeing surreal landscapes and getting to know the kind hospitality that Indonesia has to offer. However, I would like to advise anyone considering this trip to only proceed if you are in good shape. The trip is quite taxing as you will need to wake up very early to catch the sunrise and the hike up Mount Ijen is rather steep. Despite the challenges, I would definitely do it all over again as the views were well worth the effort and lack of sleep.

I went for the 4D3N Mt Ijen & Bromo tour, and opted in to visit Madakaripura Falls.
Highly recommend heading to Madakaripura, it was the best waterfall experience I ever had.
As it was a spontaneous decision to go on this trip, I had limited time to do research and thought it’d be more comfortable to engage a driver. Given this last minute arrangement, I appreciate Sherry for being very prompt in her responses, and Agung quickly putting me in touch with my driver and guide, Ivan.
Ivan was very thoughtful and accommodating to my requests, and recommended me lots of local food. He was also very respectful of my personal space and time, which is great for a solo traveler.
I recommend doing the 4D3N if you’re to hike Ijen as it was really quite tiring and you’d appreciate the extra time to rest.

The hike up to ijen was tiring but worth every part of the energy. This coupled with the majestic views of mount bromo and madakaripua waterfall is worth every bit of money.
Our tour guide roony is fluent in english and has good recommendations based on what we want. He actively listens and tries to engage us in conversations in order to serve us better.

We did a 4D3N Tumpak Sewu, Bromo and Ijen tour in early Sept 2022. The weather was perfect for all activities. We really enjoyed ourselves and are very grateful to meet awesome and friendly people. We would like to complement our driver Mr Rio, our guides Mr Dadang (guide for Tumpak Sewu), Mr Didi (Jeep driver and guide for Bromo tour) and Mr Sam (Guide for Ijen tour). They have done a wonderful job! Thank you! The hike at Tumpak Sewu waterfall was the most thrilling for us. If you are planning to visit Tumpak Sewu, do remember to prepare yourself physically as the hike is no ordinary hike. Bring waterproof shoes or sandals, avoid flipflops as you will be dealing with slippery terrains. Pack light, preferably just bring a small waterproof slingbag as you will need to walk on streams and "rappel" down small waterfalls while holding on to some ropes. Nevertheless it is really an awesome experience! Thanks to our guide Dadang for being so patient and helpful! The views of Bromo and its neighboring volcanoes and Mount Ijen crater are fantastic and not to be missed! You gotta hike to enjoy the best views! Thank you team Tour Mount Bromo, highly recommended! 👍😀

Did a 3D2N Mt. Bromo & Mt. Ijen tour, including a trip to Madakaripura waterfall. Overall coordination of tour is fantastic, and SG officer in charge (Sherry) is also very helpful in answering all queries. We also has no language barrier between our local coordinator (Agung) and driver (Hadi).
Hadi is a skilled driver, and he will try to make up for time to ensure we reach our hotels earlier to allow us more rest for our next hike. He will also check with us to inform him if we are not satisfied with the guides hired at the waterfall & Ijen.
Even though the travelling distance is really long & tiring, we still enjoyed the whole trip & thankful for arranging helpful & skilled local guides. Hotels arranged are also comfortable.
Only aspect that I can think of to improve, is to perhaps arrange for more comfortable transport since we are spending long hours in the car. Can't imagine for all passengers to be cramped in the car for long stretch of time.

The experience started from the planning phase of the trip and Tour Mount Bromo Travel Agency did a great job in helping us with itinerary.
We reached Juanda Airport in Surabaya, Indonesia where our guide, Chandra, was waiting to welcome us. He was friendly and accommodating through the journey; one of the best guides that we had in our many travels overseas.
Thank you, Chandra and Tour Mount Promo for the epic trip. It is definitely an adventure of a lifetime.

We went for 3D2N Ijen + Mount bromo tour which they designed to meet our relatively short schedule.
Our tour guide Rama has been so friendly and helpful throughout the tour, we all made good friends with him. At Bromo homestay, he offered to bring us to the local field to see the stars, which was even more impressive as it was not a part of the package.
Not to mention our driver Ris an, we still wonder how he could drive so well, letting us sleep in the car in peace.
Really loved every part of the trip and highly recommend Tour Mount Bromo, guide Rama and driver Ris!
