to be honest, I dissatisfied with those batik motif displayed at stores along Laweyan main street and alleyway, they mostly display and selling modern batiks while I preferred the oldskul motif and therefor I recommend for those who seek "batik lawasan" to explore the batik home factory as those home industry offers you lower price than you see on stores. for instance, try to see "Batik GressTenan at Jl. Setono rt 02, rw 02".

if you stroll around Laweyan you will find a lot of nice original batik shops, but to get them you should go more south to the back of the galleries on the main street, cause many of those galleries do not have own production, they just sell and get most of their stuff on commission from the producers which are low profile people and selling to very reasonable prices...therefore we went away from the busy main street in the small gangs where you can find still great handmade pieces with low prices, and you can bargain, at least 30 % will be reducted, if not even more...take care of the hookers, a lot of them hanging around there hunting for commission, if they guide you to a shop they will get their share of the cake...also be aware that some of the sellers telling you it´s batik tulis, which is handmade, but it´s not, they selling printed batik to people who are not familiar with the quality....anyway you will get nice pieces to moderate prices, just take your time and explore Laweyan Batik Village...

As part of my wedding weekend festivities, my husband and I took 40 guests to Laweyan. Despite booking a few months ahead, the tour coordinator from Forum Batik Laweyan only told us on D-2 that all batik-making activities close on Sundays. We managed to pay 8 artists to come to work that day so that my guests could see how batik were made.
So clearly, avoid visiting on Sunday. The walking tour was hot and there wasn't any good resto nearby. Looking back, we'd rather visit Danar Hadi or Go Tik Swan museum instead.

Take a walk in Kampoeng Batik Lawyan? I suggest you to use your cap, because on the bright day, it will be quite hot and humid. This area has a sooo many batik shop, but my favorite batik shop is Batik Putra Laweyan. They have a very unique and cute design. The price is very reasonable :) The other batik shops are also nice, but sometimes the price is too damn high.

Kampung Batik Laweyan is located in the southern part of Solo. It has a long batik history. It becomes one of the icons that promote Solo as a city of batik shopping and heritage tourism. High walls and narrow alleys are characteristic of Kampung Batik Laweyan. Visitors can hire a becak (tricycle) for going around Kampung Batik Laweyan
Along Laweyan roads, you can find batik showrooms which sell batik sheets, clothes, T-shirt, batik handicrafts and souvenirs. For the batik sheets, Kampung Batik Laweyan offers handpainted, stamped and silk screened with various price.
I would definitely come back to Kampung Batik Laweyan when in town.

This is one of my favourite spots for shopping in Surakarta. There are many shops selling Batik, from the locals until well known brand Batik. I would definitely go back if i visit Surakarta.

You need to be patient and willing to checkout the shops one by one.
Some shops offer good price and quality. My friend got a 2-meter silk for Rp. 100,000. It's on a special 50% sale.

I went to go with high hopes. Well, I had a lot of expectation with all the stories about Batik in Solo. The price is not cheaper than Danar Hadi. And there are so many shops along the way, few with air conditioning, so it was so stuffy inside the shop. Better come with car to visit the various shops.

I'm not one for shopping and perhaps even less clothes shopping, shopping for clothes made from strangely patterned materials therefore rates pretty low on my list of things to do on a Sunday afternoon.
In saying that though, I actually really quite enjoyed my visit to Lawayen Road. It was like stepping back in time, away from the mad hustle and bustle that I would normally associate with Batik shopping in Indonesia. No crowded markets, no pressure to buy, no haggling, all things others might love but things that quickly drive me insane. Like many Australian 's born in a wide open country the very thought of being squeezed into a traditional batik market, feeling like an 'obyek parawisata' on legs is enough to induce panic.
Not so with Kampoeng Lawayan. The street itself is quite pleasant particularly if you are there at the beginning or end of the day, when the temperature is a bit cooler. The narrow street has a quiet suburban feel, lined with traditional houses interspersed with Batik shops.
The shops themselves house an amazing array of both fabric and clothing designs, from the very traditional to the ultra modern. There is no doubt for me that the solo batik marker is far more innovative and creative than what Jogja or jakarta usually has to offer.
A number of shops even had small coffee shops attached seemingly for weary husbands who had reached their shopping limit while partners shopped on.
All in all I would highly recommend this as a good introduction to Indonesia batik and Kampoeng life.

Is there any car park available?
Written December 19, 2019
this is 'kampung size' street, so the car can access but not recommended for parking when you're sightseeing the kampung. You can park the car in bigger street, and walk to Laweyan. It's about 50-100m.

For Batik lesson:
1. How much does it cost per person?
2. Is there a minimum participant for it? Do we have to book for a session?
3. Is the cost for foreigners different than locals?
4. How long is a session?
Written October 16, 2017
You can contact the leader of community in Kampung Batik Laweyan. To learn about batik from A to Z, need about 5 days. From design, colouring till finish. About Rp. 2,5 jt (million rupiahs) per person for 5 days. And you need to book first. 3. I don't about diffrent cost. Thats all I know but i took it 2 years ago. I dont know if change or not.

Untuk belajar membatik:
1. Berapa biaya per orang?
2. Apakah ada minimal jumlah peserta? Dan apakah harus booking terlebih dahulu?
3. Apakah ada biaya khusus untuk wisatawan asing?

The custom made batik how long does it takes ?
Written February 14, 2017
1.if you mean to make a batik dress, the process more or less the same with other material
2. but if you mean how long to make a piece of "kain batik tulis", it will take much longer time, depends how difficult the motif is, it can takes some months to make a piece of "batik tulis" from a white plain textile material into a beautiful art work
