This unique octagonal church -- oldest in the region -- dates back to 1753. The original rattan chairs are still in use today as is the original black, yellow and white tiled floor. Located in the old town.

One of the best Colonial church in Indonesia. Gereja Blenduk offers you a time travel back to the old Semarang. If you came by to visit this place, bring a camera, took lots of picture form the exterior and if you had the chances the interior of the church. When i was there i got the luxury to came inside the curch. Again, one thing that amaze me with colonial structure is their preceise angle. The interior was so beauty, specialy the orgel, since this is one of the complete orgel in Indonesia even in the world. This is when camera helps you to domented the structure. The best time to go there is before lunch at 10AM, the sun still nice and after that you can have lunch in the opposite (there's a sate house there, quite famous in Semarang for goat satay). After that search around the area for another picture of colonial building.

Built by the Dutch in 1753, this beautiful Protestant church still stands magnificently in brilliant white in the old town area of Semarang. The building is strikingly attractive with a large copper-skinned dome in the middle and flanked by two clock towers on either side of its main entrance.
If you think the exterior exudes so much grandeur, the well-kept interior would bowl you over, especially the heavy wooden doors, stained glass, old dark timber, a very rare piano & even a cast iron spiral staircase leading to the music stage upstairs. The pews are actually made of individual antique wooden-framed rattan chairs arranged in neat rows on the ground & upper floors, thus giving it a theatre-like arrangement. There is a unique pulpit which sits on a raised wooden platform & seems like hung from the wall (see attached pictures)
This splendid heritage has been very well preserved and attracts not only foreign tourists but also local visitors, photography buffs, wedding groups and also because of its excellent condition, still holds regular church services for its Protestant community. Gereja Blenduk is a must-see for any visitor to Semarang.

The Blenduk Church was one of so many building which was builded in the era of Dutch Government in Semarang. It has a unique architect with round beautiful roof, maybe thats why it was called Blenduk means something round and puff (I am sorry if wrong). This church still opens for sunday services under GPIB (Protestan) Denomination and its name now is Immanuel Church, although people still call this church : Gereja Blenduk. Outer appearance is so beautiful in white while the round roof is red brick. Inside also so beautiful in the retro desain including the big orgel upstair.
The sad news is that this historical church really need a renovation soon because of brittleness. The church management already submit a proposal fund to regional government because this building is counted as a historical building and should be maintenance by government.

This church was built in the mid 18th century during the Dutch colonisation. It was still being used today for Sunday services or wedding ceremony. It's located in the old town part of Semarang, surrounded by many old buildings. The church was very well maintained. Entering the church requires a small fee (around USD 2 per person).
Visit this church during the day or evening, both will give you a nice photo opportunity.
Across the street from the church is the famous satay house.
