This is a museum of railway history, but the star of the show is the building itself with its fine proportions, its stained glass window, its wood beamed ceilings and its colonnades. The exhibits are mostly b&W photos with some memorabilia and some old film footage. There is no shortage of space, they could do better. There are bilingual labels on many but not all exhibits. Admission for foreigners is Rp 30k, only 50% more than locals pay, quite a modest surcharge by Indonesian government standards.

Lawang Sewu building was a railway station built by Dutch Government. The building is still very strong with a very good architecture. Located in the middle of Semarang Town, across of Cathedral Church this place is very famous for the tourist. It is very meaningful pass by this place when you visit Semarang.

This historical buiding is transformed into museum but theexhibition is less interesting than building itself; stained glasses wingdow at the main buiding at front at Tugu muda semarang is highlight. Exhibition about train in indonesia need improvement to attract visitors. There is also music performance at the backyard on weekend evening, extended operating hours to 20:00pm

Museum that says it has 1000 doors inside. To be said this is a museum, it's not giving us too much information. It only gives us lot of empty spaces that may be good for you to take any pictures.
But as a museum lovers, I don't think this is a good historical museum.

This place previously known as haunted house, but now already renovated and become public space and museum by Indonesian Railways Company (KAI). It has exquisite exterior design, however inside this place not well maintaned and quite empty for museum. Hopefully there will be improvement in the future.

Been here twice now. The vibe is different because the first time it was only with 6 friends, now with many friends at the Atmajaya reunion. This time using a tour guide so that we know the history. It turns out there's a lot of history that we don't know about... especially the buildings, including the walls, windows, doors, glass, even the nails...! 👍

I thought I better go in here and have a look around. It's a lovely old railway office building. It's not that exciting as I had no information about the place I was just walking around taking photos. Some English speaking guides would make it better.
