Off this Sendang Biru, there is an island, called, Pulau Sempu which was categorized as National Park.

We were surprised by great scenery over there as we were taken by local people using their canoe to reach this small island and what a beautiful jungle we saw!

And the best surprise was a truly beautiful lake in the middle of this Sempu Island!

Totally breathtaking!

However, as this was National Park we were later interviewed by Jungle Ranger who overlooked this island, but nothing was serious as we were unknown if this area of Sempu Island shall be needed a special permission to visit.

If you want some adventure, Pulau Sempu shall be listed into your bucket list.

(I was visiting this on 1992)

When you come to the beach, you will be treated by an incredible panorama. Fine sand and blue water collaborated very well to be beautiful scenery. At the coastline, there are so many boats that are parked with colorful painting. That's the reason there's more unspoiled beauty lies within and most of them still off-the-beaten-track, including Sendang Biru beach and the Sempu island next to it.The distance is about 69 km from Malang City. It is southern of Malang City and takes approximately 2 hours by driving a car.Not only visit beach but also you can buy fish or other marine creatures that are still fresh. As the fishermen landing to the coastline, they will go directly to the market. The consumers can hunt crab, tuna, fish, squids, and many others. When the waves are high. Tuna become an icon of Sendang Biru Beach.
If you want to have activities you can rent a motorboat or rowboat from fishermen from IDR 5,000 to IDR 100,000,and other leisure activities. In the middle of sea, you can see underwater life. The small fish swim around the coral reefs. It can be unforgettable moment as you visit the beach. The owner of the boats may approach you and offers you. They can take you to cross to Sempu Island and visit Sempu Island, you are suggested to bring mineral water. The other uniqueness of Sendang Biru Beach is that the beach is maintained by local residents who still keep the tradition. The tradition is held on 7 – 8 Syawal (Moslem Calender). As one of tourist destination in Malang City, you can add the beach into your holiday when you visit East Java.

This beach is located in South Malang, to be exact, it was located in the district Sumbermanjing Wetan.
In Indonesia 'Sendang' means water or pond and 'Biru' means blue.
Sendang Biru Beach was actually is a fish auction and you will definitely pass this beach if you are heading to the island Sempu.

To get to the beach, you can use a personal vehicle whether it is a car or a motorcycle and you could also use public transport for example microbus ('Mikrolet' in Indonesia). After arriving, at the spot, you have to rent a boat for approximately 50.000 to 100.000 rupiah, you will arrive at the beach for about 20 minutes far and you will be left there for a few hours (you can request how many hours), then the boatman will pick you up at the time you have requested, or if there are changes of time, you can directly call the boatman to pick you up right away.

Inns and restaurants are available to support the needs of the visitors, but they are only available in the area before you board the ship. If you already board and left on the beach, you won't find any place to buy something.

I have been several times to Malang, but I only found out this year, that there are plenty of beaches that are still very beautiful and lovely in Malang. I hope in the future with the increasing number of people who know about this beach and visit it, won't make this beach turn into a dirty beach.

Tips:
- It is better for you to not bring heavy stuff because you will trouble yourself when you going up and down the ship.
- It is essential to bring a camera because you may not want to miss to capture the beautiful scenery or to not have photoshoot session.
- Be careful to not put your mobile phone or electronic devices in your pants pocket to anticipate if you forget to take it out when you enter the water.
- It is recommended to swim in this wide beach freely according to your heart's content.
- There will be no food stalls there, it is advisable to eat and drink before you go or after you finish.
- It is better not to bring foods or drinks, or if you really need to bring it, please remember to bring the trash and not leave any kind of trash there.
- Don't forget to ask the boatman's number so you can contact him if you finish and want to go back.

It is not a beach, where you can walk along. There's so many boat, so you must explore further.
Entry fee about 11,000 IDR for a person and 15,000 IDR for a car.
there's about 5 kiosks, which sell grilled fish.

Sendang biru beach located 70km from Malang.

Boat services available to Pantai waru (Very good place for swimming with family. No waves.)
Boat charges Rp 130,000 per boat. 10 persons are allowed. If you travel less persons also you have to pay same amount. So you can combine with other visitors and share the fare. This fare include both ways. Boat will return to main land after dropping you. Once we completed swimming, we have to call the boat person to pick up. Don't forget to collect boat person phone number.
No food shops are available.

Sendang biru is a fishing village, hence you can't hope for crisp clean water here. However compared to any other fishing village in Indonesia, Sendang Biru is unusually clean and well maintained. You can take a boat ride here or even go around Sempu island (but the waves is big, so if you got the balls...)

There's a fish market here where you can get the freshly catch fish in the area for cheap.

This is a small beach quite near to sempu island. We just had a small stop over after our trip from sempu island. Though, there are many fishing boats down here, and hence not a much recommended place to hang out!
