My wife and I were on a two-week tour to Java-Bali, Indonesia in October and had three days open to do some birding. We usually hire local birding guides whenever we travel internationally. Birdpacker Indonesia Birding Tours fullfilled our expectations plus more. We spent a day with Waskito in Yogyakarta, Gunung Merapi NP including a hike up the rain forest side of an active volcano which spiued ash the next day. Waskito's knowledge of native birds and skill in finding them are excellent. He has a sharp eye and ear and put you on the bird. His knowledge of the terain and history is great! When another guide ask me a few days later what was my best bird speceis, Waskito interjected "the Japanese Caves". Yes, to whitness history first hand at the end of a canyon on a volcano puts everything I learned about WWII into perspective. We finished the day with close to 50 speceis half of them life birds. We hired Birdpackers again for two days on Bali. Waskito was joined by another guide Udin (top notch) for birding in Ubud and Benoa. We ended our birding in Java/Bali with a total 123 species (58 lifers). Their knowledge of where to find endemics and current taxonomy was fantastic. Professional service with guideing/driving/meals was spot on. I highly recommend Birdpacker Indonesia for your next visit to Indonesia, a very reliable company.

As a group we spent an afternoon birding with Kukuh and his team at Cangar in some mid-elevation forest. Kukuh not only has expertise of the birds in the area and the best places to find them, but knows how to have fun while doing it! Great laughs and some really nice birds were topped off at sundown as a Javan Hawk Eagle swooped down to perch in a tree within 30 m of us as it came in to roost. Thanks for a memorable day in the Javan mountains!

I spend a full day tour with Birdpacker to Baluran National Park. It was an amazing birdtour for us, not only about watching beautiful birds but also learning a lot from the fabulous bird guy Kukuh and the local champion Heru. They are very knowledgeable about the area, birds, also wildlife surounding. They are a life fieldguide book.
We saw Pavo muticus -Green peacock, Red junglefowl, Drongo, Oriental pied hornbill and many more.
Highly recomend for a day bird tour and will be great.if you also see some in the area nearby.

Went with this guy to Cangar nature reserve on the north of Batu, and it was amazing. 36 species in day 1 and about 10 more species the next day, including the difficult skulker White-bibbed Babbler, which showed up nicely. Got several otherendemic as well, including the charismatic Javan Hawk Eagle, Javan Bush Warbler, Blod-breasted Flowerpecker and Javan Whistling Thrush.

Kukuh is a friendly guy despite
how he looks, and get things all done.

Kuku (Waskito) arranged our 3 day/3 night tour on Sumba (Island) and also was our guide. His knowledge of the locales and birds on Sumba was outstanding; we saw everything on our "it would be amazing to see..." list. We had a separate driver and also were accompanied by park rangers on their motorbikes (they took photos and collected data for their own purposes while assisting Kuku in locating birds). Accommodations were "rustic" but this was the only way to see amazing birds like the Sumba Hornbill (a pair at their nesting hole!). Everything was well organized except for the exchange of vehicles (from car to 4-wheel drive) one day. Kuku speaks excellent English and has studies abroad, so his knowledge of ornithology goes beyond Indonesia. I would not hesitate to recommend Birdpackers for birdwatching--and only wish they were available in more parts of Indonesia!

We will improve the accommodation and transportation in Sumba and also for another area, so if you consider to go birding trip in other location in Indonesia with us, i hope you would be perfectly satisfied with our service. I had a couple of spare days while on a business trip to Surabaya in November 2018. I was looking for a professional guide to take me around the area for birdwatching and photography.
A search on the net and some enquiries led me to this group led by Waskito. we had our programme organised after a couple of phone calls and emails.

November is not particularly a great time for bird watching in that area but Waskito and his team of enthusiastic juniors made every minute worthwhile. Travel and food arragement was superb and so was Waskito's knowledge about the local avians and flora. Although it rained intermittently, we had a great time for those 2 days in different spots with my 500mm lens ready for every opportunity that came by.
I enclose some of the images to impress you with what I captured in those 2 highly unseasonal days in the company of Waskito and his team.

My wife and I went birdwatching with these guys on March 16, 2017. It was awesome experience. Although we didn't have the chance to see the Javan Eagle due to weather inclement, we saw collections of really nice bird in the wild. I am especially thrill to saw the Sunda Minivet in the wild. While the wife likes the Indigo Flycatcher. Our guide Andi and driver Yanto were both very nice and courteous. Overall, it was an awesome experience. If we do it again, we would choose sometime in Summer to avoid the rain.
