On the first day of my visit to Bandung I went to this mall which has a completely different concept compared to other malls with plenty of open areas to walk and also lots of greenery around.

It is divided into different sections with a Yogya super market in the center surrounded with lots of stores selling clothes, shoes and also an entertainment center for children.

There are so many food outlets starting with Burger king, Hokkaido bosh cheese tarts, Hok ben, Kebobs, Shihlin fried chicken, wendys, cha time, KFC etc. I tried multiple outlets and the food is cheaper compared to Jakarta.

Also there are adequate rest rooms, bank atms and small kiosks selling souvenirs and quirky jewellery.

No doubt that Cihampelas Walk (Ciwalk) has been one the city best icons.
Located in a very famed and strategic location in jalan Cihampelas that has been well know for the lines of shop along the road, in the middle of the bustling city, definitely gives the most added point to this site.
Alas, since the pavement all along the road is used by semi permanent street hawker, and parking spaces, the safety of the pedestrians of the Cihampelas street is very very dangerous.
The flow of the traffic that is more than its capacity makes Cihampelas street also one of the most crowded, jammed street in the City.

Definitely offering some kind of different kind atmosphere of the mall, with a lot of open air spaces, ciwalk is different.
There alley, open alley that is allocated for the food stalls with a lot of choices is definitely a haven for the food lover. Even though the international franchises fast food stalls and higher class food shop are also available in the different part of Ciwalk.

For the shops, Ciwalk offers many kinds of shops that are selling almost of everything,
starting from the international high tech gadgets, camera til the girl accessories, which is good.
But frankly and sadly some of the shops are deserted, no visitors. The native of the Bandung visitors just come for the sight seeing, that makes no profit for some of the shop owner to keep and maintain the shop open, that's why shops are keep changing, since some of them can't afford to pay the rent.

The game master, the game arcade for all kind of visitors from different ages and the high end (regular/ 3D) theater are also the main attractions of Ciwalk. The quality of service and facilities which are maintained well keep the theater and the game arcade worth visited.

There are something that the Ciwalk starts to fix, which is the toilet facilities, which is good. Since before Ciwalk didn't provide adequate toilet facilities, either the locations were too far, or overcrowded. There is an improvement for that. Which is good.

Parking facilities that is provided by Ciwalk, is anothe major problem during the weekend and high seasons. Even the Ciwalk already tried to provide huge parking spaces, it is still can't fulfill the demand of the car owner. Beware, if you wan't to have a parking space, you should use your time wisely, Come earlier!

The most disadvantage of Ciwalk is during the bad season. especially the rainy seasons.
I would avoid to come and visit there during the rainy season.
The location between one wing of the Ciwalk with the other part is separated with a huge open space. Open space, means there is no shelter or roof between. So imagine when it is raining, and you should stay in one part of Ciwalk until it stops, other wise the choice is : try to enjoy the rain water over your body.
The sells umbrella, but it is not the solution. What if you bring your kids, stroller? The pavement becomes wet and slippery.

Just another thought of Ciwalk. Enjoy.

Cihampelas Walk or CiWalk, as what the locals call, is an oasis in the middle of congested of 'Jeans' Street of Jl. Cihampelas. This place goes with its name. It's really a nice place for walking and window shopping or simply watching the beautiful combination of modern stores among the tall pine trees.

Eating & Shopping
Eating: KFC, Wendy's, Pizza Hut, Starbuck, as well as the Jakarta famous noodles Bakmi GM, the Kiosk for tasting the famous local food, and many more.
Shopping: Sport Station, Converse, Wakai, Nike, Payless Shoe Store, Gramedia Bookstore, Yogya Supermarket.

The Best Time to Visit
Any week days between 9am-5pm is the best time to appreciate the beauty and the peaceful of this place. It's less crowded. Usually the week days around Christmas, if you visit between 5-8pm, the place can be very romantic. The drizzling December afternoon combined with Christmas ornaments on pine trees along with the melodious Christmas carol from the local youth choir make the true solitude atmospheres.

The Best Time to Avoid This Place.
Saturday, Sunday, and long weekend, especially after 11 am, expect the local crowds flood this place. The irritating-blaring loud speakers from the commercial events in their main promenade will guarantee to ruin your mood to enjoy the place. Finding the best seats for your peaceful dining can also be difficult.

The Best Sitting Area with a Nice View for Contemplating
Unfortunately, there aren't many free-public sitting areas. If you have to go to one of those establishment, here some of my best choices:
1. Pizza Hut, choose the sitting area in their balcony
2. Starbuck, again by the balcony. Just cross your finger, there aren't many heavy smokers around.

Getting There
Ciwalk is easy to reach by angkots (public vans), ojek (motorcycle taxi), taxi.

We came by this place to shop around after our day tour to Kawah Putih and visiting the Strawberry farms.

It was late afternoon then (around 3.30pm). This place is huge, spacious and scattered around with different buildings and as it was during Chinese New Year (CNY) period, the mall was nicely decorated with the CNY decorations. At some point in time, we even had a slight thought that we were in HK, Taiwan or even China! It was clean too and was modern in its structural design.

There are many stores located here, selling merchandise from fashion to IT & phones, bags, sports, shoes, pharmacies and of course several cafes, fast food chains, restaurants and a supermarket.

It was not crowded when we were there and we walked around leisurely and also quite cooling (the weather outside was sunny and warm). We walked around, bought some finger food (from JCO and Breadtalk) and continued our window shopping. (Of course later, we bought some clothings and food items from the supermarket) Generally, the things here (except those discounted items) are generally on par with the major factory outlets and not cheap.

However, once outside the mall, the traffic and parking was quite a mess as there was jam. Perhaps due to narrow roads (and also vehicles stopping by the roadside to buy things or wait to pickup someone), it was quite messy to cross the road (where our tour guide cum driver parked his car). Along the main road was rows of shophouses and the makeshift stalls selling fashion, clothings, bags, shoes, food etc and so very crowded too to push through the crowd.

Overall it was a nice shopping experience in CiWalk as it is popularly known. Its also quite a different experience shopping in this trendy mall than at the local markets (such as Pasar Baru) or street shopping.

Recommended.

We love Ciwalk! Especially on a weekday when it is not crowded with tourists, walking around Cihampelas Walk makes you feel like you are not in Indonesia at all with the cooling weather. It was a cosy 20 degrees at night when we went a few days back and we throughly enjoyed it.

Oh so many restaurants - a wide selection of different food (Malay/ Asian/Italian/ Japanese/fastfood, etc) as well as bakery like BreadTalk. It's a nice place to walk and hang out at the end of a tiring day, as we stayed just next door (Sensa Hotel).

It has a relatively good supermarket at the basement where you can get mineral water, and tidbits as well as fruits.

It is not a branded type of shopping mall, but has a local departmental store (anchor tenant) there. There are many smaller shops. But I think food is the mainstay there. If you want higher-end clothes and shopping, go to Paris Van Java.

The best thing I like about Ci-Walk is the layout and design of the place: very open, with big areas in between individual buildings that make up Ci-Walk. But of course, this is not so good when it rains!

Great open place for dining and good XXI cinema upstair. Opt for Premier cinema .

For local and foreign tourist better go here with GRAB or GOJEK where the traffic and location is abit confuse to find. Avoid ordinary Taxi where most of them are rude and will charge you more .

Also try the SENSA HOTEL next time you visit Bandung.

We were lucky in our timing to visit Cihampelas Walk, especially as it was the weekend of the Durian Festival, so my mum could take in all the smells she'd grown up with. The Walk was very open, family friendly and a relief to get out from the heat day, Everyone there was friendly and accommodating. There were a range of shops available, but as some of us were fying out that afternoon, didn't get a chance to get a good look.
