Arrived at Pasar Baru around 10 in the morning and the place is already crowded. 1 common advise that i have always get freinds that had been here and also written in blogs or forums is to be extra cautious with your wallets and belongings. Judging by the huge crowd here, pickpockets will sure have an easy task in performing their trade. Anyhow its better to be safe than sorry..
Warning guys, Shall you bring your spause or lady who likes shopping be prepared to spend at least half a day here. Lucky enough that I have few things on my shopping list here otherwise I'll be infected with the "infinite boring" syndrome.. Hahahaha..
Anyway, from materials to complete dress is up for sale here. So start of with a minor window shopping. Ask around and compare the prices. Once you reach a preference start haggling for the best price. Try bargaining around half of the price the seller gives. If you did'nt reach to any agreement, politely say thank you and move on.
You could easily find Muslim attires all around Pasar Baru. Telekung and baju kurung are available at almost every floor. For anyone planning on performing haj or umrah, there are also "ihrams" sold here. For all of the merchandise (including raw material such as fabrics and etc) sold here the price will be different depending on the material, embroidery and quality the item has.
For guys there are also baru kurung / melayu sold here. It will be sold either complete with pants or just the shirt only. There are also few shops hanging the sign "Obrol". this means clearence sale item. Most of the items are already cheap and won't be up for bargaining. "Songkok", "kopiah" and few other Indonesian headwear are also available.
For newly weds and lovey dovey couples out there, there are also shirts/ traditional wear sold in matching pairs. The matching outfits are also extended for a family use meaning there are also boys and girls size matching outfits. However the choice are limited and there are not much sizes available. I did't manage to get a matching shirt for son. Anyhow there are also tailor services provided here shall anyone insist on custom made wear. Usually it would take 24hrs to 3 days for them to complete our oder.
Dont forget your lunch eventhough you're busy with your shopping. There is a food court located on the 6th floor where plenty of food stalls offering various kind of foods. As recomended by some of my friends I had my luch at a stall called Ikan Bakar Pak Cik Met. The price here is slightly higer than other stalls but it was worth it. I had "Kakap bakar" or grilled sea perch served with a spicy but delicious sambal.
As for the public amenities, the toilets here just serves its purpose.. well for a RP1000 fee you cant expect to see a levish version. For muslim there are also "Musollah" or muslim prayer area. As the building is very crowded the environment will get a bit stuffy and if you shall need a drink, there are always refreshment sellers moving around in every floor. One thing you have to remember, if its not in a shop the price could escalate up to 3 times the original price. Due to this fact you could also bargain shall u need to buy drinks.
As a summary (for M'sian) Pasar Baru is like "Jakel", "Kamdar" and all of the "Bazar Aidilfitri" compressed into a 7 storey building. Easier to say that my title for this review says it all.
Tips you may consider :
1) It is much easier haggling/bargaining near to the closing time which is at 5pm as the sellers would want to close on time but still wants to make a sale.
2) Its a good idea to have a driver to pick you up as the road in front of Pasar baru is congested with a massive traffic jam. Taxi would usually avoid going through this traffic jams therefore making it close to impossible to get one here.
Thats all.. Enjoy Bandung & Happy Shopping..!!!

To sum it up for KLite, Pasar Baru is like all Jalan TAR famous textile shoplots and stalls put together in a 7 storey building. You can get all the telekungs ( Moslem attire for ladies), batek shirt and sarongs and Kebaya there. If you drive by your own don't bother to look for parking until you reached the 7th floor as it that can accomodate plenty of car parks.
If you intent to hunt for telekung than I'd advise go browse several stall first and compare the initial prices. Choose one that have the one that you preferred and try to offer the lowest you can. As a rule of thumb, try bargaining up to 60% from the initial price and stop at your own determined ceiling price. You'll get a better price if you buy in bulk. (Read: More than half dozen). Most of the stalls selling Telekung are located from the 2nd floor to 5th floor.Prices are varies depending on the embroidery done on the telekung as well as on the material used.
If you intent to buy a curtain there are several shops on the 1st and second floor offering such services. They are not as many as their telekungs and kebaya counterparts. Depends on fabric and type of curtain the price can start from as low as IDR 300,000...
It's better to go early in the morning ( from 8:45 - 9:00 am) as they will try to get their "Pecah Telur" transactions. Means that the earlier they can secured the first transaction the more they can get for that particular day. After comparison I found out that the price is just a little bit lower if compared to Nagoya or Kamdar. The excess baggage charges may not worth it.
There are several shops selling textile there, and they do provide tailor services. However, to my dismay the tailor that was recommended by the shop owner made a mistake with my shirt. It is supposed to be a cuff link shirt but he made a normal shirt. When I complained and asked them to fix it the work done is really terrible and the measurement has become inaccurate.
For lunch you can go to the 6th floor where plenty of food stalls offering various kind of foods. I went to this Pak Cik Met stall and had a marvellous meals with their selections of foods. Before I forgot Gurame fish is also known as Talapia for Malaysian. Their sambal are hot and fiery but delicious...
Several things that you should know:
1) If you wanna buy drinks from the mobile seller be warned that they will always push the price much higher. My son wanna drink Milo Kotak and the seller quoted IDR10,000 or RM3.50 for it. I politely put it back and say no, thank you because the actual price is just IDR6,000 if I'm not mistaken. One way to avoid those scammers is by bringing your own drinks or asked the shopkeeper to buy it for you. Warning: They will always enticed your kids with those cold drinks and if your kids took it they will ask you to pay for it eventhough they haven't drink it yet. They'll give excuses such as "Sudah kemek Pak..."
2) The toilet is not that hygienic, so be warned. The fees is just IDR1,000...
3) The environment can be quite stuffy and warm as the aircond may not really effective..
Anyway, for all those guys out there, if your spouse ask you to accompany her to Pasar baru there might be a possibility that you may spend the whole day at there.

It was my first time here and i learn a lot of what not to do especially if you are foreigner. For those foreigner and 1st time, here are my tips:
1)dont trust your driver.he maybe in cahoot with the "pedamping". In fact i discovered he had planned for us where to eat. I dont blame the driver but it wasnt a nice experience.
2)take grab and drop down about a few hundred metres.dont enter by the main lobby instead enter at the 2 entrance at the side where it will lead you to basement. Why?so there will be less chance you will get spotted by the pedamping and souvenier seller. They will follow you everywhere and most wont take no for an asnwer.the pedamping is the most uncomfortable part as he will trail you everywhere you go like an eagle.he will engage in small talk, offer you where is cheaper and even advice you how to be safe.
3)dress simple to blend in with the locals.the place is safe but to be haggled by the souvenier seller and pedamping is not a nice experience. Make your visit uncomfortable. Only if they understand that you are not interested. The sad part they even can quote you in the currency where you from. So my conclusion all of them may work as a team and knew your existence.
We went 2nd time a few days later but this time "unannouce". Very very very much better than the first time.We also discovered the price is different which is lower compare to out 1st visit and from the same shop.here we conclude the pedamping could ask for commission and hence the seller have to increase the price in order to pay them.all the items we got on 2nd visit is half compare to the 1st time.
My conclusion, to make your visit comfortable, blend in with the crowds.otherwise you'll get spotted and many of them will trail you.also you get to maximise your money to spend.they dont do anything to harm you but instead make your visit uncomfortable.

I was here with my family a few days ago and unlike our visits last year, this year there are lots of people claiming themselves as local tour guides at Pasar Baru. They kept on following us & pushing us where to go & directing us where to shop though we told them repeatedly that we didn't need them.
They were very pushy and aggressive. And just on the day we were leaving, we read a very interesting complaint written in national newspaper "KOMPAS" as I attached below.

Ive been to PAsar Baru..and bought beautiful material from 'Angel' and the tailor 'Ary' came to my guesthouse at night for measurement. Two nights we called the tailor to come, we kept on giving him material to sew.hehe.
If going to 'Angel' look for Mahesh, the owner guy, he gives good discounts, and 'Angel' actually supplies all the other textile shops there, so Angel's prices are the best. And he DOESN'T charge 3 % for credit card swipes.
We bought so much material from Angel, cause we got good deals, and Mahesh knows how to take care of his customers.
My wedding dress with a long train, veil and shoes and shipping back to Malaysia (material & tailoring) costs approx. RM 1.3k. the material is Beautiful ! Cant wait !
For wedding invitation cards, we custom made exclusive cards which were 1/5 the price the charge in Malaysia.
There are endless Factory outlet stores to shop at to find ur favorite brands.I would recommend Rumah Mode.
And we hired a great driver to take care of all our needs.
Have dinner or lunch at Garuda restaraunt. Well worth it.

This place is heaven on earth if you are looking for great bargains on telekung, sejadah, and kain (textiles). It's as cheap as Tanah Abang in Jakarta, and waaaay cheaper than anywhere in Malaysia that I've been to (mostly shops around Masjid India). There are tons of variety and many shops selling the same thing, if not similar, so don't worry if you don't get a good deal at the first shop. Walk around and someone will probably give you what you want at a price you're willing to pay. Because it's very packed with shops and people, it can get stuffy and squeezy on weekends.
One thing I would like to warn all is that if you visit a textile place called Chand Mode, please do not be easily duped with their sales pitch. Their textiles are definitely cheaper than those found in Jakel (comparing apples to apples), but if they offer to tailor the clothes do not allow them to! They will promise you the world but won't be able to deliver. The person who took our measurements, and the branch manager, said yes to all our requests and assured us it will be ready by 10 pm the next day. When we called Wasant (branch manager) the next day at 11pm because our clothes had not arrived, he didn't remember us and had no idea what was going on with the tailors. Eventually the clothes arrived but the measurements were so wrong! All our skirts were too short (at least 3 inches) and my tops were too tight. My sleeves were too short as well, and significantly uneven. We also found out that the tailor is someone completely different. We were extremely disappointed in the delivery of the "promise". I would advise all who is interested, to just buy the cloths but tailor it back home.

Went there at about 10am, shops were open, some stuff were really not cheap and you really have to bargain to get a good deal. That being said, there were still some good deals found, especially the shop opening/closing time.
I wish I read this reviews earlier, I got ripped off for food here as well. Take note, the ayam penyet/panggang should cost only about Rp20,000 or Rp25,000. I was charged Rp183,000!
Do yourself a favour, read this review and be careful in the foodcourt and lookout for pickpockets..

You have to browse all the floors in order for you to get what you want especially for Asians. Its convenience especially for a muslim as you can do your shopping, eating and your prayer in one building. There are a lot of choices especially readymada clothes, textiles and gifts to be taken home. Do bargaian and browse first as prices differ from one store to another.

Hi
Is is possible to walk from Hilton Bandung tp Pasar Baru Trade Center and long it would to walk
Thanks
Written January 20, 2019
Is it possible, but not adviseable. The road is always jammed and congested, and you would want to walk in the humid weather inhaling engine fumes.

Do this place really close early at 5pm even on friday and saturday?
Written February 13, 2017
Hi, its best if you go early in the morning or afternoon. The place get crowded by 5pm and on weekends many shops start shutting down so by the time you go from one floor to another many shops will have shut down.

Yes. You can choose Aston Hotel Braga, Gino Feruci Kebon Jati, Fave Hotel Braga, Fave Hotel Hyper Square, Zodiak Hotel Kebon Kawung, Hilton Hotel,Pasar Baru Square Hotel Bandung. For Pasar Baru Square Hotel, the hotel located across Pasar Baru Trade Center. But if you want good vintage and historic place, you can choose Aston Hotel Braga and Fave Hotel Braga.

Hi if I'm staying at this sensa hotel.is it far to go here?and how much if I take cab to this Pasar baru? Thanks
Written January 19, 2016
Base on google map the distance via car is 3-5km. Having just went there I believe the cab ride could be 30mins... I stayed at Hilton which is about 1km++ away. So it was very near and took me less than 10 mins to reach.
However I took the cab from Pasar Baru to Trans Studio (6.6km) away with heavy traffic was 75k rupiah if not mistaken. The road was heavily congested. The cab was the yellow-metered cab. It was about 45 mins ride? I feel asleep after the crazy shopping at Pasar Baru trade centre.
Anyway the cabs has a minimum fare of 50k rupiah. Even bluebird taxis. I took the metered cab from Paris Van Java to Hilton was 25k, but was charged 50k plus "parking/toll" fee.

May i know the walking distance from the papandayan hotel to pasar baru? Is it possible to walk?
Written October 7, 2015
My family of 4 (including 2 teenagers) walked from Jalan Braga to Pasar Baru, which was supposed to be a distance of about 750m, and it took about 20 minutes. Your route from your hotel to Pasar Baru is about 2.7 km and would take about 1 hour.
I sort of regretted taking my family on foot. There was a lot of traffic on the way and no proper pavements. Often, we had to walk on the road and had to be doubly careful to avoid the oncoming vehicles including motorcycles. The route took us through some of the more run down parts of the city, and I didn't feel as safe as I did in other parts of Bandung.
As taxi fares are very reasonable in Bandung, I would strongly suggest that you take a taxi instead of walking the distance from your hotel to the Pasar.
