- Theresa V1 contributionGreat experienceThe cooking class was excellent. Wonderful location, very nice staff who explained everything wonderfully. Very tasty prepared. Can only recommend (afternoon course without market stay with a total of three people who attended the course).Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 25, 2023
- nixtoppingLos Cabezos, Panama26 contributionsAMAZING cooking class in beautiful rice paddy! This is the most wonderful cooking experience! The location of the cooking school is set in a rice paddy, beautiful surroundings and all outdoor cooking! The school uses the freshest ingredients and every things is prepared so well for the students to learn! Dessa was our teacher and she was just amazing, very well spoken and even took us to the market first! The experience was really fun and we got to meet so many other nice international people. The class was very professional and we prepared at least 8 different Balinese dishes… including desert! The coconut pancake 😍 You then get to eat all the food for lunch! We were given a recipe book to take home afterwards! You learn to make the traditional flower basket offerings too 🌸 You get a delicious welcome drink, water, etc. Thank you Canting and we will be back soon :) highly recommend this cooking school for the most fun, cultural Balinese experience 😊Visited October 2023Traveled with friendsWritten October 26, 2023
- MaartjeHaarlem, The Netherlands5 contributionsAmazing food and experienceThis was such a great experience! Not only the staff was very kind, but also the view is amazing! Madie was very skilled and was very kind and patient. We also felt free to ask anything about food, Bali culture and language. We made a lot of very nice traditional dishes and enjoyed eating it with the nice view. I would definitely recommend this to everyone!Visited October 2023Traveled with friendsWritten November 5, 2023
- ShaunaWalsh93County Kilkenny, Ireland21 contributionsUnbelievable Balinese Cooking ClassThis is a really excellent Balinese Cooking Class! Transport to and from my hostel was included. My instructor was absolutely brilliant and gave lots of explanations about the cooking, ingredients and Balinese culture. We prepared 7 dishes during the class and every single one was delicious! I couldn't recommend this class more, thank you very much cantina Bali!Visited January 2024Traveled soloWritten January 8, 2024
- Daniel H1 contributionInteresting facts and great foodVery nice experience, ideal length, great food and interesting facts from the local market and rice field. We also got recipes for all the food so you don t have to worry about remembering it. Our guide answered everything and was very kind. 👌Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 16, 2024
- Milda S4 contributionsA great insight to Balinese cultureI took Canting Bali Cooking class last week and it was a treat. I take cooking classes when I travel and in fact very rarely you learn how to actually cook those meals. I took the class off season, so I was extremely lucky to experience this in the smallest group, they were also flexible and accommodating. The morning visit in the market was a great introduction into a daily life of Balinese people and their routines. The outdoor kitchen is set in the gorgeous outdoor location in the rice fields and it was nice to also learn about Balinese offerings. The day was nicely balanced and the meal was really delicious needless to say, but what I loved the most is learning about the exceptional culture from the local. I would highly recommend this class to anyone, it's a great activity.Visited January 2024Traveled soloWritten January 25, 2024
- Gailiegirl2019Oakville, Canada7 contributionsHighly Recommend This ExperienceFantastic experience. I highly recommend going. We went in the afternoon and it was great to be so hands on. We got to chop up food and cook everything and then ate it all. The smells and visuals were tantalizing. Our guide and head chef was so informative and genuinely inspiring. We all thoroughly enjoyed the day. And we left with a wee cookbook so we can try the recipes at home.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 5, 2024

One of the best experiences we’ve had in Bali. Picked up on time from our hotel & then headed out to village market for an introduction to Balinese food culture. Then off to the cooking school to learn how make a Balinese feast.
There was only one other person that joined our party of 3 - so we had great individual attention from our cooking ‘guide’ Made.
Made took us through the whole process of preparing the the spice paste (basa gede) - which was then used in all the dishes we made.
Finished up with a gourmet lunch comprised of our efforts.
It’s a fantastic 1/2 day option in Ubud - weather you’re a foodie or not. Our 17 year old now reckons she can make something more interesting than 2 minute noodles!

My husband and I loved our cooking class experience. The Canting Cooking class is surrounded by rice paddies, which makes for a very peaceful experience. We started the class with a trip to the local market where our guide explained the many ingredients used in Balinese cooking. We then went to the class class where the instructors did am amazing job of explaining all of the ingredients we will be using, the dishes we will be preparing and also gave us a lot of insight into the techniques used in Balinese cooking. The class was engaging and fun, and we ended by having a delicious meal of everything we had prepared. They were very accommodating of people's dietary restrictions as well.

This was a very well organized, authentic experience. The team had everything set for us and we participated in chopping and taking turns frying and cooking.
This is very much a group experience, rather than having your own cooking station, and we got to chat with other people in our group.
We began by making a traditional offering made of palm leaves and flowers. You cook everything (which takes a couple hours) and then sit down to eat with your group. The team organizes the food you cook buffet style so you get to try everything.
The team worked SO hard! They are truly accommodating and somehow kept an eye on everyone and everything to move the process along and make sure everything turned out delicious. There was even a child in our group and they accommodated her with the chopping and frying.
You receive a little cook book at the end so you can re-create the dishes at home!

It was very well organized, from being picked up to the actual self-cooked lunch. They cook in small groups with lots of guidance and room for questions. Instructions on ingredients and cooking process are very clear. In the end you get all the recipes in a booklet.
We found it an extra nice touch that they included a welcome drink and started with explaining on the making of and meaning of Canang Sari (the offerings) which our kids really loved.
Can certainly recommend this activity!!

We tried this private cooking class on our third and last day in Ubud before moving across the island, looking for a traditional activity that could allow us to live and experience some of the real Balinese life, away from the more touristic and famous spots. The driver came to pick us up at our hotel and was really kind and friendly. When we arrived at Canting, we met our chef, who guided us towards the creation of a Balinese offer, showed and explained us everything about the ingredients we were about to use and taught us 8 typical Balinese recipes, following and helping us towards the whole process. We then had the possibility to eat everything we’ve been cooking in the past couple hours, while enjoying the stunning view on the rice fields. The food was excellent, and I would definitely recommend this experience because it consists of a truly different and peculiar way to experience this wonderful island and all it has to offer.

Had such a fun time on this cooking class! We went in the morning so that we could have a tour of the local market. Our guide was super friendly and knowledgeable. The location of the cooking school was right by a rice field, which made for really pretty photos. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone interested in learning about Balinese cooking and culture. Thank you so much!

This was a fantastic tour. The school is well organized and starts with a market tour. Our guide Putu was both informative and fun. Our group prepared a meal that had several courses and was beautifully presented before sitting down to eat. We were given recipes to take with us to cook at home. Highly recommend.

Very well coordinated cooking class complete with pick up and drop off in Ubud. The instructor was very knowledgeable and told us about the ingredients and their cultural significance. The food we prepared was delicious and all fresh ingredients. Would recommend this class to anyone who wants to learn not just about Balinese food but also culture. Also side note, on the website the time listed for afternoon class was 5 hours but including pick up and drop off, total time was 3.5 hours.

We had a great time at Canting. It was really well organized. We would recommend to join the morning class because that includes a trip to the market where the ingredients for the cooked food is usually bought by the locals.
We prepared a number of dishes that culminated in a delicious lunch for the whole group.

Really nice experience in Ubud, the balenese cooking class shows their tradition with food & life (so life and gods are always present!). Starting from the typical market to the food tasting, the chef well introduced the cooking context and drove us on the typical recipes.
Highly Recommend!

Were there many people attending the class?
Did you get to have a go at cooking all the dishes or was the class divided into groups and given separate tasks?
Many thanks!
Written April 25, 2018
In our group we had 11 people and the group next to us was about the same. We did separate some tasks like cutting ingredients. Half would stir fry while the other would put the ingredients in the pan. I felt very involved. They had a lot of workers behind the scenes moving the food and dishes while we were working at the next station. We made so many dishes I got a little confused but walked away with a recipe book! Even though it was a large group it was a great success. The group size was no problem at all. I’ve done smaller, private classes, but the bigger one allowed for more food and variety?

How could I join the class again?
Today, I have wasted afternoon with my family. After talking with Canting receptionist, my family and me were waiting on time at the pickup point. Because the car did not come there I call him. He asked me change the place. So I moved the place with my children. I could understand it as the road was in traffic jam under the rain. And then at the changed place I had waiting for 2HOUR! Not any call. I did not want to call him because I always had to call for the arrangement. My family had to leave the place in tired condition. Maybe I could join your best cooking class next time. At this beautiful Ubud in Bali. Jeong
