The Neka Art Museum has a Balinese and foreign art collection inspired by the natural beauty, life and culture of Bali divided amongst several Balinese style buildings. Dutch painter, with Indonesian roots, Arie Smit has his own pavilion for his colourfull painting. Nice museum not far from the centre of Ubud.

What a wonderful museum, displaying great pieces of artwork including paintings, sculptures and photographs by Balinese and other Indonesian artists as well as by expatriate artists, including Dutch artists and others who lived in Bali when Indonesia was still a colony.
Architecturally the museum's buildings are splendid as is the lush garden that surrounds the various galleries. Visitors should plan on spending 2-3 hours in order to fully appreciate the Neka Museum's large and impressive collection (luckily there's a nice small café should you wish to pause for a break).

Overlooking a beautiful garden setting the Neka museum is the best place on the Island of Bali to enjoy high quality artworks by both Indonesian and foreign artists.  You get to meander through traditional buildings laid out like a family compound, each one filled with various artworks from traditional to contemporary, to photography and more.

The photography opportunities are endless, and there are lots of benches to sit and admire, plus each artwork is accompanied by information plaque to go with it.  Total time will be around 2 hours give or take.   There is a lot to admire.  I was the only visitor as it is not really a popular location

Really enjoyed our trip to Neka - very few tourists around which made the experience so peaceful after the hustle and bustle of Ubud central! The art is so beautiful, and absolutely worth the visit to admire the colours and stories behind the artists and the artwork. The surrounding grounds were gorgeous and well kept. Worth a visit!

Absolutely loved my visit to the museum. There are some really impressive artists here. My favorites were the wild brush strokes of Affandi; the gorgeous Balinese portraits of Abdul Aziz, and the chaotic market and daily life scenes painted by Wayan Bendi. It was also interesting to learn about the Dutch artist Arie Smits who has a whole gallery to himself, even though I wasn’t in love with his work. I highly recommend this tranquil gem.

A brilliant art museum for aficionados and non- alike. I had read good news online and decided to check it out. The cashier indicated that I could probably finish in an hour, but after 2, I still felt I was rushing it. The complex consists of several rooms, hallways and a few buildings and art is relatively modern (of the last 100 years). The art is stunning….but what makes the museum particularly special is the detailed description that accompanies each piece, whether imparting information about technique, colour, or more importantly, providing insights into Balinese culture and beliefs. I highly recommend this museum!

This is the best art gallery we have visited in Bali. Great mixture of sculptures, Balinese artefacts and mostly art works. If you are a fan of art galleries or just have a passing interest visit this place. You can spend anywhere from 1 hour to up to 3. We'll worth a visit.

Interesting selection of modern and comtemporary Balinese art (Balinese and European artists). Mainly paintings and sculptures (bronze or wood). Pleasant museum with nice rooms and lovely gardens (including a cafe).

Better read about discovering this unique collection of sacred knives to enjoy the visit at its most. Incredible beauties exposed there. A visit which makes you admiring the talent of balinese artisans.

I enjoy art so Neka Art Museum was extremely interesting to me. The Museum was opened in 1982 & houses a collection of artwork from local artists. It was founded by a famous Balinese artist & teacher Suteja Neka. Its best to take a taxi ride or driver to the museum as its not really walking distance. There are several pavilions which house different collections & styles. A small admission fee is required .
