This show was a wonderful window on the creative work at the heart of Balinese artistic life in the intimate and highly decorative space of the Puri Kantor – part of the Ubud Palace. I was enthralled by its gripping drama of dance and music drawing on many elements of traditional performance.

Where do I even begin? Words won’t do justice to describe how amazing the Siwa Nataraja Bali Unmasked show was. We’ve seen a lot of shows in Bali and the rawness and creativity of this one blew our minds. The story and production itself was mind blowing. It was somehow more “real” Bali than other shows I have seen and at the same was the perfect stepping stone from traditional Balinese dances into a more modern show. It was simply brilliant. It reignited a fascination with Balinese culture that I had not felt since I was a child. I hope that more people go to see it so that Peter Wilson and Made Sidia can continue to produce such magic.

After the show we had a little chat with Peter, who was absolutely and a very interesting person. Best of luck to them and the cast - we will be back soon and will bring all our friends!

Came to watch a morning performance from 10am-11am, large stage elaborate costumes enjoyed the dancers the best. We were given a one page sheet in English explaining the 5 acts in the play. Would have been greatly enhanced if someone came on stage before each act and talked about the act. Left after 1/2 an hour. Lovely grounds.

We booked this after having seen two other traditional Balinese dance/drama performances.
It cost 200,000 IDR per person and was not great, to be honest.
We had previously seen the Chandra Mati Ladies orchestra and dance troupe, which appears at the Lotus Pond every Tuesday and costs a mere 80,000 IDR and was excellent. This was short, bitty, very disjointed, overpriced and rather boring.
I'm sorry but I really can't recommend it.

A surprise visit at Puri kantor in central Ubud was turned out to be our best new learning about Bali. the show is a storytelling about Shiva Nataraja and his love to his wife that was cursed as Durga (evil face). a must see while in Bali, Ubud specially.
