If you’re considering an authentic local cooking class in Ubud, definitely book this one. Putu and her family are warm, welcoming, and incredibly hospitable as hosts. We were a group of 6 looking for a lunchtime class. We were picked up from our hotel around 10:00am and back home by 2:30pm. During that time, we learned so much about local life and cooking. Putu’s class was fun and engaging from start to finish, and the food was delicious. She accommodated both vegetarians and meat eaters. She also showed us around her home and garden. We’d highly recommend for anyone seeking a local experience - it was the highlight of our time in Ubud.

Putu with Traveling Spoon was so friendly and took good care of my boyfriend and I. She’s so knowledgeable and graciously welcomed us into her home. She taught us how to make traditional Balinese dishes and treated us like family. My boyfriend wasn’t feeling well at the time and she kept making sure he felt ok. We had such a great experience with her and would love to cook with her again!

If you come to Ubud to experience the culture and delicious food, this tour is for you. I came to Bali for my birthday with my partner and we wanted to get an authentic experience away from the hustle and bustle of the city. This was one of our trip highlights.

Putu and her husband picked us up from out hotel and drive us to their home, where they gave us a lovely overview of traditional Balinsese life. After giving us a snack of coconut water and crackers, we cooked a lunch feast. Putu demonstrated each technique and guided us through the recipes. They were able to accommodate our vegan and gluten free diets with ease.

Once all dishes were done, they laid out the beautiful spread and gave us beer, water and coffee to round out the meal.

This was easily the best meal we had in Bali. I would highly recommend this for anyone who loves food, likes to cook and wants a view of Balinese life.

Putu’s private cooking class was such an amazing experience. She was very hospitable and was really good at explaining everything. We got the chance to learn about their culture and how and why their homes are built the way they are. My family and I cooked a 5 course authentic Indonesian meal in an outdoor kitchen and she was kind enough to let us try a variety of exotic fruits that was freshly grown from her farm. All the meals we cooked were ingredients her family had grown in their farm. You truly get a taste of their culture and I highly recommend taking this class.

I cannot highly recommend this cooking class enough. Before the class even begins, Putu brings you into her home, gives you a tour of a traditional Balinese house and her family’s temple, taking the time to explain the meaning of each. Instantly you feel the warmth of Putu and meet the members of the special family business you are supporting.

Putu was kind and patient as she took us through each dish, explaining why she used different ingredients and what we could substitute them with if needed back in Australia. We had a wide range of cooking abilities (cooking teacher to never cooked) and Putu’s class catered for all.

Most of all - the food was phenomenal! We have been very lucky to have amazing food each meal during our trip - however, we all agree that this was the winner. Make sure you come hungry! If you cannot finish it all (there is a lot) Putu makes sure to help you package it up to have later.

All recipes were sent after the cooking class so we could recreate at home.

Thank you so much Putu!!

Putu and Pasta are great hosts.
Pasta picked us up from our villa and instantly made us feel comfortable.
Putu welcomed us into their ancestral home and showed us the various rooms as well as their organic farm.
They provide us pre-dinner snacks which were great.
Dinner consisted of several dishes all of which were authentic and mouthwatering.
Putu also shared all the recipes so can’t wait to try them out when we get back home.
The conversation was just like talking to friends who we knew for years. They were both gracious and dropped us off at our hotel with warm embraces - with genuine smiles and goodbyes.
I definitely recommend this tour - make sure the course reads as “cooking class” and not just “traditional meal” so that you get to see the cooking in action.

The reviews already posted sum it up quite well, stop reading and just book this lunch or dinner class with Putu. It’s more than just a cooking class, but a great evening and experience with Putu and her family in her beautiful village. She shows you her garden, house, temple and then puts together a perfectly executed cooking course. From pickup to drop off we were in awe and absolutely loved our time. Literally everything we used in our course was from her garden minus the garlic. Truly a farm to table experience. The explanations, the conversations, and the food were just amazing. This was by FAR the highlight of our time in Ubud, and to be honest probably our entire honeymoon. Thank you so much Putu!

Really authentic cooking class. Putu is incredibly knowledgeable not only about cooking but also able to very clearly explain important aspects of the rich Balinese culture. Cooking class is really well set up with an outdoor kitchen especially for running the classes and all the mise en place prepared so that you get the experience of truly preparing and cooking everything but with things also just efficient enough. She lives in a farming village very close to Ubud and it's a totally different experience to anything you'll find more central or in a restaurant. Private transfer included as well.

As a bonus, it sounds like when you book it's a very good chance it'll just be a private cooking class if not in the peak season.

Putu made us very welcome in her family’s traditional home and provided a professional, well prepared and wonderful cooking class for us. Her excellent guidance ensured success and we savoured the 5 delicious dishes she and some of her family helped us achieve. Through her and her family’s generosity we were able to gain insight into authentic Balinese farming life. Thank you Putu - this was a highlight of our trip to Bali and we thoroughly recommend the experience to others!

Putu was the most amazing host and teacher! She brought us into her own home and I felt so privileged to be an honoured guest and learn about her and her family’s life. And then the cooking!! Absolute mind bogglingly amazing to learn and create authentic Balinese food and learn the special techniques. I can’t wait to come back next year.
Putu is such a natural teacher and speaks excellent English. A visit to Putu and cooking with her will be the highlight of you time in God’s Island of Bali! Thank you Putu and your family from the bottom of my heart! X Tove
