Review of Beginner Surf Lessons in Bali

I found UP2U from Instagram, they offer good prices during a pandemic. Paul who manages the Instagram has a fast response, also friendly, even when i asked so many silly beginner questions
I can't say today is my very first time to learn how to catch the waves yet today is my very first time do it right. The challenge is real for beginner like me. The Instructor is the key and of course with the good gears of course. UP2U provide both!!!!
UP2U have a dedicated and passionate teacher, they correct me properly and comfort me because they train me in a comfortable way, GIRLSSS!! don't hesitate to take your surf lesson, UP2U is the perfect one. My Instructor name is Alex, he passionately trains me to build my confidence and catch the waves in the right way so I can prevent the injuries, not that long I can stand up paddling right.
Last but not least, I like how they applied covid protocols. I am so glad for today experienced, taking up lessons in UP2U is highly recommended. Kudos to Paul and Alex. I'll come back for next Lesson.

Very fun experience with them for us total beginners.
Paul and his office staff respond quite fast to emails and are very flexible with scheduling.
The coaches are local and speak good English in general. They make the lessons fun and are very patient!
This together with the low cost of their lessons really gives an excellent quality/price ratio and makes them an excellent choice.

Fulfilling first surfing experience. Helpful, professional, and friendly instructors who carried water for everyone in the group. 6 people to 2 instructors meant there was enough attention paid to everyone. Optional photos of surfing in action were also provided with a small fee. Lockers provided for safe keeping and simple shower amenities all made the experience a great one!

A terrible experience with Up2u surfing in Legian bali.
So first of all they post a structured lesson on their website but what you get is extremely random.
Just very quick briefing on shore with instructor who had poor English.
Then heading straight to beach without proper instructions about how to face waves or how to even get on board.
The instructor was not close enough to us if someone had problem he would not even notice.
He didn't pay attention to our mistakes and didn't instruct us how to stand or pose properly on board. You had to learn by trial and error.
We got 2 hours out of 2.30 hrs posted online
After that the instructor rushed us to carry the boards back to the center and forgot to tell us about taking the slippers, we literally burnt our feet on our way back and to run back to water to cool off. When we tried to complain to the rude arrogant australian guy in charge he said "It is not my responsibility, It is just common sense" and ordered us to leave and even threatened to call security.
I totally don't understand why would you call security to threaten customers who simple ask for an apology!
Total random people, total random and unprofessional experience,
Definitely would not recommend.

At the beginning of the lesson I performed the safety pre-surf briefing and I asked all guests (including you) to take their sandals to the beach because the sand was going to be too hot to walk on.
Your instructor does speak English you are not telling the truth and he did go through the required beach practical because I was on the beach supervising the whole show.
The pictures we took of you show that the coach was right by your side all the time and was giving you feedback about your technique so yet again you are not telling the exact truth here.
Unfortunately you contacted me just 20 minutes before the class by Whats App we did not have enough time to send you the free online tutorials because this is part of the structure of the class. Our lessons have 2 hours surfing and 30 minutes of preparation and beach practicals.
After the surf lesson finished you came into the surf school screaming at me and saying it was my fault you forgot your sandals on the beach.
FYI all our other guests did take their sandals and they did remember to bring them back. You were the only one who forgot to bring your sandals back.
You then started threatening me in an aggressive way so I ordered you to leave the surf school but you kept screaming and acting crazy this is when I told my receptionist to call security and have you removed from the premises and this is when you run away.

Travelling solo, I was nervous to attend the surf lesson alone as I was afraid of being awkward. Safe to say, I have never been so wrong. The lessons were fun and the instructors were really patient with you.
The instructor I had was Darwin, a really friendly and humorous guy! I couldn't stand the first few time and he kept on encouraging me and correcting my postures. The next half of the lesson was me standing and catching as many waves as I could! (well, the occasional 'oops' still..) The instructors there are really patient and genuinely want you to be better!
Up2U also provides shuttle from your hotel to their surf school, and back to your hotel again (I was residing in Kuta area).
Sleeves are also provided for you, to protect you from the sun! (Something I'm really thankful for... I got burnt badly when I went to another beach a few days later without the sleeves).
Would definitely recommend to beginners and people travelling solo! And I can't wait to go back to Bali and surf with them again.

Paul and the instructors put their heart and soul into teaching you how to surf. This is only my 2nd time with UP2U but will always come back to learn more from them. The dedication to help you and go the extra mile to review your surfs thereafter with photos is great for people who're serious about learning the sport. Never a dull time with the fun-loving instructors as well. Highly recommended!

Never thought we would learn to stand up and surf so quickly. The program by Up2U is lighter on theory and stronger on getting in there and learning through hands on tuition, which really suited us. Couldn't recommend Up2U more highly particularly for those who have always been to the beach and thought I wish I knew how to surf!

Thank you so much for your excellent review and also for surfing at UP2U. Our lessons are more focused on the practical side but we do send our guests online tutorials that covers allot of theory but we do agree with you that doing it is better.

Appointment took place within 24 hours after first contact via WhatsApp. The teacher and the Manager were very Kind and patient with us. Can definately recommend going here. Pictures were taken to Analyse the techniques and Show Mistakes. Priceless experience! We will come back.

The instructors make an effort cater to your skill level, while at the same time pushing you to improve and do better. Really like the mini debrief at the end where Paul
used photos taken to provide key takeaways for each of us. Also really appreciated how he managed to make concrete our trip to Nusa Dua!

it was great experience when i learn surfing bc the tutor teach me step by step and answer all of my curiousity about surfing. proper facility and the thing i like most is there was free photograph by the owner and evaluation session based on the pictures after practice. with that really affordable price, up2u surf school is my recommendation to you who read this! :p

Hi, We are only in Legian for three (mid-week) days in August and our children (aged 14 and 12) would like a surfing lesson(s). As we will have only just landed from a very long flight (UK), it is difficult to know when they will regain the energy to surf and thus I am reluctant to book lessons in advance. Could you advise if it is OK just to turn up on the day, or the day before, and book then? Also, I'd like to be able to see them from the beach or go with them if they are transported to another beach. Is this possible? Many thanks, KK

Hi, personally I only booked the lessons the night before and and managed to get the slot i wanted. That said, they will send an email to confirm which you are required to reply. i did not but was lucky enough to be slotted in when i turned up. Bookings are done online so you dont have to go over to the school itself.
The surfing is in legian itself and it is on a public beach so you can definitely see your kids. in fact, you might wanna prop yourself on one of those umbrella chairs right in front of where the lessons are conducted.
