We saw the restaurant sign in Kuta so decided go go there for supper/ dinner. The ribs were awesome, nice new flavour. The other dishes and drinks were also terrific as was the service. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Chef Bagus and his many offsiders have a great operation. Fun banter, really organized food preparation and serving. Delicious food too!
He is an engaging host and a special mention to Patrick for his knowledge, humor and skill.

This is by far the best ribs we have had with my wife. We were there last year and it was already tasty and delicious; Friendly Chef Bagus makes you at ease the minute you enter his restaurant, and trust us, you will not forget your treat! Easy to find in Kuta. We are staying in Semyniak but the long drive and Balinese traffic are worth, as you will remember your visit. We will definitely be back Chef Bagus! - The Belgians living in Thailand

This is my first cooking class and it was so well structured. I loved how interactive and talkative Chef Bagus was. The food was all delicious and my fave dishes was the pork and Mie Goreng.

Great morning of cooking laughing and learning. We started our tour around 8:10 when a driver collected the family from the hotel. We made our way to a local market where met with other people for the tour and we were told about the various ingredients and day to day life of the local people. Soon after we drove to Warung chef Bagus where we met the master himself. He was a delight, very funny and full of knowledge and experience. We were made very welcome and the children included also. In all we made 10 dishes that we were able to participate in the prep and cooking and finally the tasting. Lunch was great, there wasn’t any disappointment among the group. What a fantastic day and we were back at the resort by 2pm. Fun filled and affordable. Highly recommend!!!

If you've thought of doing a cooking class while in Bali, this is definitely the one to do.

Decent pick up time from your hotel and although there is so much involved the pace is not rushed.

If you're already in Bali, I recommend attending the restaurant in person and booking the class.

All the staff are welcoming and are all active participants during the class.

Visiting the local market is not for the faint hearted, if you've ever been to a local grocery market, you'll understand. Bali, Thailand and Vietnam have all been the same, no problem if you've been to one before but it will be an eye opener for the newbie.

Take the opportunity to buy cooking pastes and utensils at market prices.

Chef Bagus is like the Balinese Gordon Ramsay without the swearing. He gets everyone involved and has perfected the art of teaching through humour.

For the average home cook the things learnt can be applied to your everyday cooking and for those a little more serious, you'll add to your skill set.

The lunch at the end of the class is huge, there were 15 of us and we still had food left over.

Best value class I've ever done.

So I've taken a few cooking classes in Vietnam and Thailand.
Chef Bagus's class was the first in Bali.

Before I get into my review, if you have a light stomach or do not want to whiff the pure stench the local market I would highly suggest to skip the 15-30 minute market tour. You walk around a small market which doesn't have much ventilation nor airflow. What does that mean for you? Pure stench and boiling temperatures. Skip it.

I have read the previous reviewers comments and can agree with Alan T's (UK) review regarding the drink situation. The staff doesn't hound you for drinks; however, after the first you need to pay. It's sort of on an honor system....

I also agree with Scott (Van BC), Chef Bagus does have cooking assignments based on gender which isn't really my cup of tea to say the least. He does humor the classes he teaches with the playing with gender's responsibilities; however, a strong loving kitchen is gender indifferent.

Now to my review:

You will get to learn some unique Balinese dishes from a man who has great experience. He does pack in a lot of cooking in 2 hours and at the end it got a little rushed. You get to make 6-8 dishes with different people in your class.
The hotel pick up was great, as well that he accommodated me a solo traveler.
I would recommend this cooking class, but take chef bagus with a grain of salt.

Had a very fun learning experience with chef Bagus and his team, who were very kind and generous about sharing everything they have to offer. Chef Bagus greets and teaches from the bottom of his heart and heals (⁇癒された〜/被治愈了) Chef Bagus hasn’t 20+ years of experience in Hyatt and famous cooking schools before becoming independent and knows exactly what is core to every dish. I learned so much about not only how to cook local cusine but also a lot about steak, and preparation of other common western meals! Every dish we had was amazing and i loved every bite!

This tour was very close to the airport and also since transportation was included no need to shell out more / deal with overpriced taxis! Perfect for solo female travelers. Thank you again chef Bagus!
