- Alan & JulesRoyal Tunbridge Wells, United Kingdom38 contributionsPadang Bai to Gili T Safe FerryHearing about ferry accidents in the area it is important to choose your ferry carefully. We chose BlueWater Express, booked online and were happy with that choice. I booked private transfers from Ubud to Padang Bai and then from P Bai to Sanur. Both were on time, efficient and fast (recommend paying the extra if you can to save time). They had contacted our hotel to confirm the pick up. There are no transfers on the Gilis - there are no cars! You either walk or pay for a horse cart (please find a horse in good condition - sometimes hotels are just too far away to be able to walk) Much calmer waters for the first leg of the journey which was quick and easy. Our return ferry from Gili Air was late and we had to stand in the sun on the jetty for a long time. The seas were more rough for this leg and we had to stop a few times to remove debris/rubbish (probably plastic..... rubbish) from the engines (very sad - pollution). We sat on the top for part of the first leg which was great but watch out for sun burn as it is hotter than you think. The seats are comfortable and they play a film on the screens at the front. There are also drinks and some snacks for sale on board. We would use them again.Visited December 2019Written January 5, 2020
- Amanda L10 contributionsGreat ServiceWe used Bluewater express to transport us to and from Bali to Gili Air. The transfer was organised in a prompt and professional manner and the staff were very friendly and helpful, the boat itself was clean and very comfortable. You’ll pay more for Bluewater express but it is worth it to get to and from your destination on time and safely. Thank you.Visited December 2019Written January 19, 2020
- Ross KQueensland, Australia8 contributionsGood value for money compared to flying to LombokExcellent service. Helpful courteous staff at each stage of our journey. Seats comfortable and clean craft. Well organised and drop off to local hotel included in tariff. Overall you get what you pay for. Rather the fast boat as to the flight Bali to Lombok as we did both. Will use this service again on our next visit. If staying Lombok strongly suggest allow an extra day each side of your accommodation booking to allow for the boat timetable especially if flying in from overseas and have small money for harbour fee 10K IDR pp on hand for each trip. To the staff thank you for a job well done.Hi ross, Thanks for the positive remarks, and happy to hear the nice comments about our team for sure we will pass them on. Good point about having some small money on hand for harbour fees - these are relatively new.Written October 17, 2022This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2022Traveled as a coupleWritten October 11, 2022

My anxiety levels were high. The reviews for Blue Water Express were the best and I have to say I was not disappointed. I booked and was picked up in Sanur & taken to the take off point. I was headed to Gili Air which is the last stop. Got to watch a movie on the way (subtitles but that was fine) so I have now seen my first Fast & the Furious movie-go figure. - franky mLondon, United Kingdom35 contributionsIf there was a hell, this is itIf there is any other possible way of travel, plane, private boat, helicopter, teleporter then I would suggest you take that before you consider blue water express. In fact, reconsider even visiting Gili islands or Lombok before you think about blue water express. Blue water express without telling any of its passengers, canceled its fast boats from Gili and Lombok which take 2 and a half hours and instead took us on a 10 hour ordeal from a dangerous small boat taking us from Gili to Lombok, then a 2 and a half hour bus ride to another ferry for a six hour boat trip to Padang Bai (not even Serengan where we were meant to be dropped). On top of all this, we had to all carry our 30kg bags on and off boats/buses up stairs through little towns in the boiling hot sun. To add to this dire situation, we had organized a transfer from our hotel to pick us up at the time and place of of arrival (11am seragnan). When this changed, blue water said that they would call our hotel right away and get this changed. - turns out blue water finally got around to the huuuuuuuuge task of contacting our hotel at half past 11 when our driver was already their waiting for us. We now have been charged for that trip ($100) and our trip from Padang Bai ($150) which I obviously refused to pay. The issue here is, that blue water express has no contingency plan for issues that may occur (bad weather which is more likely then unlikely, boat breakdowns etc). They are unreliable, treat you like cattle, are liars and in my opinion, are terribly unsafe. My advice to you is not to even consider using this service as it most likely will ruin your holiday.Dear Franky, We are very sorry for the travel disruptions caused by the current unusually bad weather, which has prevented all fast boats from operating between Bali and the Gilis for a temporary period. All our guests and/or travel agents were informed of the cancellation as soon as possible we received the news from the harbourmaster. In these circumstances, we do our best to arrange alternate transport for our guests (many other operators do not do this). We prioritise flight tickets, but when flights are full, the long ferry journey to Padang Bai is the only option. There are no ferries running to South Bali. The transport arrangements you made were direct with your hotel, not through Bluewater. We include road transfers free of charge as standard, to most resort areas, and it is regrettable that your agent did not Inform you of this. With regard to your allegations that we have no contingency plans for bad weather, that we treat guest like cattle and that we are liars, you are of course entitled to your opinion! It is not one shared by the most of the hundreds of thousands of other passengers who have travelled with us over the years, however. However, on occasion, due to circumstances often beyond our control, a smooth transfer is not always accomplished.Written January 7, 2015This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited January 2015Written January 5, 2015

I had read so many horror stories about boats in Indonesia its safe to say we were nervous. Well, none of that occurred and we had a very pleasant trip. We took our trip in Mid July just to be clear. The waters are typically better in summer than in winter months apparently. Our trip was great. The Bluewater Express taxi was on time and picked us up from our Ubud hotel with no issues. When we arrived we were checked in quickly and the boat left about 15 minutes late which was no big deal. The seats were comfortable and the ride was exactly what they said. We were going to Lombok after short stops at each of the Gili Islands and the whole trip took about 3 hours.
Pro Tips:
1) It sounds fun to sit on the top, but you WILL GET VERY WET! If you are okay with that go for it, otherwise choose a choice seat inside.
2) On the bus to the dock, sit close to the exit so you csan be the first off the bus. When you exit the bus make your way to the boat quickly so you can have your choice of seast - its first come first serve.
3)Choose seats near the front - say the first 3 rows. The one criticism I read in earlier reviews that had merit was the smell of gas. If you sit in the back you will smell fmes. Choose a seat in the first 3-4 rows near the front of the boat and you will be fine.
4) Go to the restroom at the Bluewater office before you board the boat.
In short, this service is professionally run. I cant imagine some other service does it better.
I hope this is helpful. If it is please give me a thumbs up! Thanks!!

We got the fast boat from Padang Bay to Gili T to start with which was rough but they did warn us it was windy which was a bit scary but we expected this.
Coming back was a different story all together ...returning back was meant to be one hour direct to Padang Bay, we were told there would be extra drops at Gili air & Lombok which added an extra 30 minutes to our journey which let me say went on to be the most terrifying of our lives.
The boat had corrugated plastic & gaffa tape holding some of the windows together & the sea was so rough with waves larger than the boat we thought we were going to capsize. The smell of fumes was also making passengers nauseas.
I am nervous in water anyway but the staff did nothing to reassure a group of terrified passengers. I was almost in tears looking at the waves hitting the boat.
The captain then took us closer to land to take us out of danger I suspect but then we stared going against the waves this was even more scary. It felt like the boat was going to split in two,
A one hour journey turned into over two hours of hell with my husband & I genuinely thinking we were going to sink!
They should not have run the boat that afternoon & should take care & consideration of their passengers, a simple standing up to say everything is ok would have been great. But the crew did nothing. Terrible customer experience.
If there is even a hint of rough seas...DO NOT get on these boats! They’ll run them anyway & not give a sh*t about you.
We’d never travel again with this company.

This last year I must have gone 5 times to Gili T. Last weekend in fact. 2010 about the same. and going back over many years. Over the entire time there is only one company that I have/would ever travel with, BlueWater Express.
It's a well run operation. Great comfortable boats. They have a small water there for you, Mentos are given out after the safety talk as well as motion sickness pills.
My favorite thing is that it's a service that runs from door to door. As many here point out, it's not the cheapest but life teaches us that most things that are cheap are so for a reason. In a boat out on an ocean, above one of the deepest trenches in the world, I do not want to find where people have skimped.
A couple of things people need to take into account when looking at Gili T ferries.
• Where does the trip run from? Most of the other Ferry operators leave Bali at Padangi Bai. BWE has their operations on Serangan Island. It's along the Sanur road, before Sanur coming from the Airport, Kuta etc… Padang Bai is a couple of hours the other side of Sanur. Personally, I'd much prefer to be on their boat skipping across the ocean than sitting in stinky Bali traffic.
• From where to where? As I said BWE is door to door. They pick me up at home drive me to the ferry and on the return do the same. A lot of the cheap ferry's run from Padang Bai and you have to get down there in the first place. Stress out driving before going on holiday? no thanks.
I'm heading over to Gili Trawangan again Jan 2013 with my brother and his wife. I'll once again be riding BlueWater Express there and back.

Hi, what is the earliest ferry that leaves Gili Air for Padang Bai? I have a flight out of DPS at 4PM and wanted to see if I can leave Gili Air early morning on the same day

All the fast boats are leaving around lunchtime, it takes around 2 hours to reach Padang Bai, then from Padang Bai to Airport takes around 2 hours.
Your departure time is not feasible.
You could either check out one-day earlier or take a morning flight from Lombok International Airport.
Cheers,

Hi, Thanks for your question. Yes, we do offer various different discounts but these change between the different routes, dates and occupancy levels. The discounts are applied directly to the prices on the website so as you search for different rates you will see the full retail price and the discounted rate underneath.

Hoi!

Hi Hana, we recommend booking in advance. Because if you book on the same day, there is a possibility that our seats are full on that day, especially in high season.

Yes, the Gili Islands are open and we have been running again with tourists since 1st September. You can check the availability, prices and book direct including pickup and drop-off locations on our website.
Is it safe to use this company right now, with all the Big waves? Or should you not sail at all?

I travelled with them and to be honest they seem to be the best company. Safe, well organised, good English. I was really worried about the bad crossing, but it wasn't half as bad as people make out and I was a female travelling alone. I don't swim well, and am afraid of the sea so if I can do it, anyone can.
