Shri Nand Yashoda Bhawan is the place where Vasudev has brought Shri Krishna after he was born. There is small parking place near road from where one need to walk through narrow galis to reach this temple.

!! SCAM ALERT !!
1) At Shri Krishna Janma bhomi some person will come to your car saying that he can guide you in Gokul in Rs.100. He will tell that you don't have to pay parking of Rs.100 if i am coming with you. He will take you till parking and will help you to park your car.

2) He will then handover you to the priest who are roaming near to parking lot and temple. The priest will accompany you and will start explaining the things about Gokul and importance of the Galis which takes you to nand mahal.

3) Inside Nand mahal one has to sit down and by sitting only need to take darshan. He will tell you how donation will help everyone in Gokul to survive along with their cows etc. He will also tell you how it will be beneficial to your forefathers and children's. In short he makes you sentimental. You keep going ahead towards main sanctum in sitting positioin where main priest (scamster) sits.

4) At main sanctum there is idol of Shri Krishna in kid attire who is seated in cradle. The main priest sitting near to it will again explain you all same thing which already you know from previous priest.

5) He will give you four options for COMPULSORY donation. One starts at 3500, second starts at 5700 , third is above 12000 and fourth is highest which is 28000. He will also tell you that you can do donation with bank cards, UPI etc (bcoz they know that no one carries such big cash now a days)

6) If someone is asking you about money in front of god then you wont hesitate (this is the formula they use). Once you are ready to go with any one donation then they handover the cardle thread to you and still they only swing cradle of Shri Krushna and tell him that this family is donating so-so amount.

7) After this ritual you can standup and there is counter very next to this priest who collects money through bank card and UPI. Here is first preist will come and see how much you are donating (based on amount he will ask his price (for 5K amount they take Rs..250)

8) Out of temple there are two small temple where he will take you. Once you are already looted inside then the priest at this small temple will loot you for at least Rs.500 per god. So two temples means Rs.1000 gone. He was taking me to third one which i denied saying that We are running out of time.

9) The priest will accompany you till parking lot where the original guide will be preset who will take you to main road in Mathura and will vanish after taking Rs.100. And here you come back to Mathura completely looted in Gods name.

We visited to Mathura, observed there is money extortion with the name of God, reuining the place value.
When we reached we knew priest or guide will try to loot us and we tried by our own to reach temple but there are no signs to reach temple ( I guess this is deleberately made sure, so that we can take a guide with us). Finally we book a guide/priest at the cost of 50rs ( specifically mentioned him we won't pay anything above 50rs). He took us to nand Mahal, where he ask to seat for some Pooja, we simply denied knowing the fact that he will loot us. We came out of the temple and his behavior changed then we gave him 50rs and travel 1 more temple by our own then leave the place.

Even common people won't help you there to reach temples, recommend not to visit this place

Gokul is the place where Lord lord Krishna spent 11 years of his life, there a guy(probably a guide) took us to the “Nand Mahal” where Lord Krishna used to live as a child, he told us about the stories and finally we arrived at the temple, the guy who brought us told us about the prashad that we are gonna receive from the temple but not about the money extortion scheme that they run inside in the name of bhog, I sat with my dad in front of Lord Krishna’s idol, the priest started telling us stories about Lord Krishna and then finally told my dad about two kinds of Bhogs i.e. Raj Bhog and Chhappan Bhog which costed around 12k and 20k, we got really shocked about the pricing and we told him that we will give 500. Then he started pressurizing us that we must buy one of the bhog as it is for the God and as we being yadava it is our prime duty to do so, when my mother tried to intervene he exclaimed that she is the laxmi of the house and she must not say anything, then another priest came with his laptop and started asking my dad how will he do the payment. The two priests sent me and my mom to another idol of god while they extorted money from my dad and told him that he should also do some additional donations for my late Grandmother.

We exited the temple being very disappointed. The guy who told us kept saying, “Jo Gokul mei aa kr hasta hai uska ghar basta hai aur jo rota hai vo wapis jaa kr sab khota hai” which made us even more irritated but we obviously knew who had the last laugh that day.

Same experience yesterday, went to mathura and just got trapped by a guide who asked for 150rs to show the janambhumi temple.
I agreed and than near temple he handed over to another person who took to temple and from beginning he started talking about visit to gokul which I have never planned. He insisted that today is auspicious day and you are lucky to be here and you should visit.
Was not aware of anything and he took to gokul where he again handed over me too one of priest.
He took to temple and explained about the place and later about the donations.
That too mentioning its not compulsory and you can do so provided you have capacity.

I was told about 5.7k, 12.7k, 28.7k, 57.7k and 1.11lacs donations which is almost 4 times what another person who visited last month has reported.
I was somehow agreed to pay 12.7k which he pushed for 28.7k and I agreed too.

But during card payment my transaction got declined and finally I paid 5.7k there.
Now, I am not decided if to pay remaining amount to these folks in the name of God are leave it.
Whatever happened, its done but not a good experience as I was not ready to spend more than 1k.

Terrible I would say . From priest to guide everyone is trying to loot you. They will literally force you to donate money .first they will tell you about the packages to donate money then gonna tell about the gods. I literally felt you have to pay to pray. Being from UP isse ghatiya aur dhukhad kabhi nahi laga. Literally felt bhagwan ke thekeddar and cast superiority . Won't recommend any one to visit gokhul

I don't want to make a bad review but even I am forced to write the truth what happened as I don't want it to happen with you all.

This visit with your true feelings to visit the Lord Krishna's Birth place could let you down as the people here totally manipulate with you. Its a team work in all, they catch the moment you enter their premises. The guide, the pandit the inside pandits everyone are a crook. The pass you from one person to another, the catch you from just 50/100 Rupees, and you don't even realize you end up paying 5-10 K at the end. Yes even if you are in a group, they divide and make you feel ashamed internally in front of your own group.

If you be strict and avoid offerings to them, they will not treat well with you. They may even just want a point to get into fight with you so you could be looted.

Yes this is the truth, and you go with lot feelings and at the end it will be like you want to rush out of this place asap.

Yes its bitter but that is the real thing, I really like to make offerings but not forcefully.

Jai Shree Krishna.

Thanks,

It pains me to call this sacred place Scam City, Valley of Thieves, Rip-Off Alley.....

I am sorry my experience mentioned below is long but is detailed to stop others falling prey.

4 of us visited last month & immediately upon entering Mathura, whilst our vehicle was still moving men started standing in front of our vehicle gesturing us to park over. (I noticed other vehicles were not being harassed & much later realised we were targeted because the registration plate on our vehicle was from a couple of states away - almost a clear giveaway that we were tourists). We continued driving for another 100 meters or so until we had no choice but to pull-over. Around a dozen "guides" (aged from around 20 to 60+) approached the front passenger side offering their services from RS ZERO to RS50.

We chose to go with an elderly gentleman, reasonably versed in English & the only one to produce an ID card suggesting that he was an "official guide" & agreed a price of RS50.

He said he will need to get in our vehicle to direct us. Once in the vehicle he said the 2 main temples we should visit are first the Nand Bhawan in Gokul which closes at 1:30pm for Darshan followed by the Dwarkadeesh Temple in Mathura which is open till late. We thought it reasonable to follow his suggestions & headed towards Gokul which he said was a couple of kilometres away but the journey seemed like at least 8/9 kilometres away. I'm now convinced he took us around needlessly.

Once in Gokul this man handed us over to another man of similar age & said "he is the Gokul expert but you don't have to pay him anything, I'll take care of it"

This alleged Gokul expert took us down various alleys telling us the history of Gokul & Mathura.

It seemed we were walking for ages & until I noticed it was the 2nd time we were walking down the same lane (I only realised this because a young lad of around 15 I had seen earlier was wearing a Chelsea football shirt fixing the tube/tyre on his bicycle, I noticed the Chelsea football shirt some 20 minutes later & the same lad still fixing his wheel), let's face it you ain't going to see 2 Chelsea shirts in the space of 20 minutes in this part of the world!?!

The above perturbed me a little so I asked "are we far, apparently Darshan closes at 1:30pm & it's already 1:20pm?" He replied "don't worry I know the Pandit well, he will allow you Darshan after 1:30pm"

Alarm bells rang in my head & I said "we've seen enough would you please take us to Nand Bhawan now please" - he reluctantly agreed & I warned my group quietly that "all is not what it seems"

Enroute to Nand Bhawan (& it still took another 20+ minutes) this chap told us how our long departed ancestors will be proud of us that we chose to come to Gokul/Mathura & should regard ourselves truly blessed.

He suggested we should make a generous donation for the fact we are so blessed & that our departed ancestors looking over us & to please the ancestors further the donation values he suggested were in 4 categories at RS12,751 /// RS27,751 /// RS57,751 or RS117,751.

He further added that "I know for safety reasons you may not have the said values in cash but he can lead us to an ATM or they will accept debit/credit cards & a receipt will be issued too"

Upon arriving at the Temple we were first made to sit on the floor where numerous floor & wall tiles were pointed out to us thst had some writing on it, we were told they are previous donors who are now very successful in life as a direct result of the substantial donations they made. Furthermore, upon making a substantial donation our names would be on a tile somewhere (& the size of the tile was dependant on the monetary value of the donation). I burst out laughing & my cynicism was mistaken for excitement by this chap!

Anyhow, we got ushered in front of the Bhawan & the pressure aggressively built up but this time by the Pandit to get my wife & I to commit to one of the 4 categories mentioned above.

I told the Pandit that we had come with a specific amount to donate in mind & that is what I will be donating. The Pandit was insistent that we commit to one of the categories but we were steadfast. The other couple in our group was sat behind us but were kept occupied by the alleged Gokul expert hence could not hear our discussions with the Pandit.

The sparring with the Pandit continued & in the end I blurted "the amount I have in mind is RS1,100 & that is what I will be giving can we get on with this please"

The Pandit scolded me for being disrespectful in front of the Lord by mentioning an amount! He further said A) donating the amount of one of the categories (listed above) will ensure continued "shanti" for my departed ancestors; B) I will get a name plaque/tile & my ancestors will be proud of me & they will send me regular "Prashad" after each Krishna festival; C) that I must be staying in a hotel that is costing RS10,000+ per night, surely for the sake of my ancestors "shanti" I can bear the inconvenience of staying in a guest house & can use the money saved for donations to them; D) if i do not have rupees they will guide me to an ATM or accept debit/credit cards or any currency equal to the value mentioned in the categories above.

Both my wife & I remained steadfast. The Pandit got angry, eyes angry, nostrils flaring & clearly struggling not to raise his voice, the Pandit snatched the silver chain out of our hands with which we were gently rocking Lord Krishna's cradle & he gestured us away rather rudely giving us a pinch of "Shakar" (Sugar) as Prashad. However, as I had committed in my mind, I donated RS1,100 & even at this point other chaps surrounded us urging to donate more.

It was made clear we were no longer welcome & were almost accompanied out.

We waited for my 2 friends to join us.They appeared some 30 minutes later with a fore-head full of tilak, red cloth tied on their heads & 3/4 Pandits (including the one who was rude to us) accompanying my friends, all the Pandits gleefully smiling & one was even blowing the conch. My friends looked a little distressed.

Anyhow we moved back towards our taxi & the Gokul expert asked for RS4,400 from us (this after the first guide had said don't give him any money, I'll take care of it), just to be rid of him I gave RS400.

Back to our taxi & the Gokul expert & our original guide have a hushed conversation before we headed back to Mathura. I asked the original guide what the conversation was about & he said "he was just telling me how generous your friends have been perhaps opportunity for you to match your friends generosity."

I ignored above comments & couldn't wait to get out of there

At my insistence we had a rushed tour of the Dwarkadeesh Temple & on way back to Delhi I realised that my friends, under incredible duress, donated just under RS100,000!!!!

They had paid by card I looked at the receipts given to them.

The handwritten receipt said "Shree Nand Mahal" (I thought this place was called Nand Bhawan - maybe I thought it means the same i.e. Mahal & Bhawan)

The tiny receipt from the card payment had a personal name!! (One would expect both receipt names should be the same, i.e. Shree Nand Mahal).

In this instance, the handwritten receipt said Shree Nand Mahal & the receipt from the card machine had a personal individual name)

Upon our return to the hotel my friend spoke to his card company who said that this is a clear case of fraud & this practice from this place is not unfamiliar to them & as a result will be stopping the transaction.

All in All a totally lousy experience of Gokul & Mathura & a place I don't think I ever want to visit again. Sadly I have to give a star rating hence they got 1.

So many people try to cheat and take the advantage of sacred land and holy beliefs of pilgrims. So while travelling to Gokul you will be approached by lot of guides who will ask 50 Rs, they will take you to this temple and infront of a Pandit ji already ready with 3 packages (Around 2K , 3K and 6 K Approx.) who will force you to select one and if you refuse he will not seem happy. Beware of this place. Donation should be as per the will and capability of pilgrims and should not be imposed by these cheaters. You should visit all places and its just that be careful of cheaters and thugs.

We went to Gokul for lord Krishna and hired a guide to show us the temple and guide us. Initially he was very good and he was going to accompany us to mathura & Vrindavan also. But as we entered the temple and came infront to offer our prayers suddenly the priest over there shifted and a new priest came. He started discussing about different kind of donations we can make and was least bothered in other things. He was forcing us the make a donation but we didn't do it. When he came to know that we will not make any donations his attitude changed and was least interested in giving prasad also.

The guide was also standing there and he too started forcing us a bit to make some donations. Everybody has a cut in donations. Really disgusting. These touts have made such a holy place their business place. They should not be allowed to enter in the temple.

Then when the guide came know we will not give anything then he refused to go further with us. He was only interested in his cut in donatio. Horrible. We paid him 100/- and moved ahead to mathura.

We were guided to this place by a guide who showed us the Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi. We walked along the streets of Gokul, where Sri Krihna has spent his childhood. Finally we arrive at a home where he lived. The place has the idol of a small Krishna, and a small space where the mud from those days is kept - the mud with which Sri Krishna had played. Until this its good. But then when the priests start taking the stage, its a different story. They start bargaining, and try to make emotional black mails asking you to donate money for the families well being. The priests (beggars I should call them) try to exploit people. The starting donation is 2800/- and goes up to 50K I believe.

Please please please avoid this place. Better give money to some beggar.
