This place is inside the IMA campus so entry can be a challenge. But once inside you should definitely visit the museum and see what makes Indian Army the heroes that they are. Read about the martyrs and their martyrdom, see the portraits of the generals who are passouts of the IMA. It’s a lesson in Indian Army’s and IMA history. On the first floor of the museum, you can see on display the various warfare equipment’s that have been used since world war 1.

One advise do not shoot pictures...lest you will find someone shooting you instead.... its a high security zone. Every year passing out parade is organised and all officers take first step into this hall for commissioning

This is a place in Dehradun that inspires all Indians alike because this is an Officer training Academy of the Indian Army. Motto of the Academy is Valor and Wisdom

Located amongst lush greenery about 8kms from Dehradun city, with its imposing gates named the Drona Dwar, the place is venerated by both civilians as well as military. There are armed guards at the gate and opposite and picture taking is strictly prohibited.

None is allowed to enter as well, except on the day, the cadets get promoted to Junior Commissioned Officers, those days near relatives only get special passes. There is also a museum on campus.

I went there on a hired taxi,on my recent trip to Dehradun from 22nd to 25th June 2015.

The Chetwode Hall is well known to all regular officers of the Indian Army. The last step from their parade ground, as gentlemen cadets, takes them through this beautiful, historical building. It is an iconic structure that also serves as the headquarters of the Indian Military Academy. When you visit the building, you want to go check the course photograph that will identify buddies. It's a little difficult to gain access though, as there are a few permissions to seek before you will be allowed into the campus. That said, it isn't far from the main gate and if you can, you must go get a slice of history.

I drove past in the morning on the way to Mussoorie and was amazed at the size. It seemed to go on for miles on both sides of the road. Coing back in the dark the lights on the buildings and the memorial was stunning

“The safety, honour and welfare of your country come first, always and every time. The honour, welfare and comfort of the men you command come next. Your own ease, comfort and safety come last, always and every time.” Those are the famous lines said by Field Marshal Sir Philip Walhouse Chetwode in his inauguration speech of IMA on 10 December 1932. This credo/motto is also emblazoned inside at the entrance of the building which is the main administrative building and headquarters of IMA. The Chetwode Block and Chetwode motto remains the foundation of the ethos of training and commitment of the Indian Army to the nation at large. This famous building in red and white can be seen while driving on Dehradun-Chakrata Road. It has a large parade ground and drill sqare in front which has seen passing out parades of batch of gentlemen cadets commissioning as officers of the Indian Army since 1934. The entrance has "Antim Path" or the last step inscribed on ground which marks the last step taken by the Gentleman Cadet before becoming a commissioned officer. The rear end of the building is normally used for parking of vehicles. Inside the building is Commandant's office, offices of other senior officers and staff of IMA, lecture halls, conference hall, classrooms and a museum. The aura, magnificence and motivation that comes with it can not be described in words. A must watch from inside, worth a visit if you are the lucky one.

Architects that come up with fancy designs for buildings, need to look at the Chetwode Hall from inspiration. It has in the past & will continue to stand out in the decades to come. Majestic & yet simple. One can keep looking at it all day.

Also has a lot of historical significance with the 1971 Surrender treaty signed by Pakistan placed here.

It's a prime institute of India. We are / were not allowed inside the institute, but was a privilege to see the grand academy from outside.
