Beautiful flowers, lily pond, many other statues. Contemplative, quiet scenery. Nice and clean, a welcome respite from Varanasi. If you go to Sarnath, don't miss this place. Statue itself was difficult to photograph in the mid-day sunlight, but I imagine it would do beautifully at sunset - the statue faces West.

My investigations show that India's tallest (80-ft-high) standing statue of Lord Buddha was unveiled on the premises of Thai Buddha Vihar on 16 March 2011. Buddhist monks took out a procession while playing traditional musical instruments. The former Prime Minister of Thailand Surayad Chunalot and the former Governor Abbott Wat Dhamma Suthi, unveiled the statue. Chunalot said that the new statue would strengthen ties between Thailand and India. The statue was conceived in 1970 when the society was formed with founder members of the joint Indo-Thai Project deciding to build a standing statue near the place of Lord Buddhas first sermon. Due to stone work and financial difficulties, work stopped for 3 years and recommenced in 2006. The statue was erected to show friendship between Thailand and India. My wife and I visited this nice little park situated next to a Buddhist Temple in Varanasi. It is a nice little place and worth a look, if you are passing by.

A lovely small tranquil park with a huge Buddha Statue with colourful flowers. A short stop off is sufficient to experience this.

This statue of the Buddha depicts the Buddha standing in the Abhaya Mudra position indicating fearlessness, while standing on a lotus flower. The statue is about 25 metres high and made of a dull grey sandstone, so it doesn’t look as good for its size. It does stand in beautiful setting next to the Thai Temple and the entrance into the ground has a gilded statue of the Laughing Buddha, in contrast to the sandstone of the Buddha.

Located a few metres before the Dhamek Stupa, a must visit place for 85 ft. Statue of Lord Buddha, inside the Thai Temple, it is peaceful, calm and full of Greenery.

There are no entry charges, one can be in and out in 15 - 30 min, have a quick photo stop or rest and done.
