IVS teaches the Vedas or the Vedantas which is the base of Hindu religion and laws related to it.It teaches us our existence, the reason why we live, how we live and the limitless power of mind and heart. IVS ashram in Varanasi is a rare gem in a bucket of priceless gems of this place.A few moments and divine words from the monks is enough to magnetise your mind towards spiritual world hidden inside it.
Its a must visit place to understand what is life all about.
But most importantly who we are.

Amidst the countless spiritual places to visit in Varanasi, with its many ashrams, it may be difficult for a spiritual seeking foreigner like me to know which place to go to. So many people nowadays say that they are enlightened and will offer you their services. Not surprisingly there are lots of 'enlightened' people out there who aren't genuine. You do not have to worry about that (in my opinion anyway) when visiting the IVS ashram in Varanasi though.

It may not seem much from the outside but don't be swayed by looks - as I have discovered that IVS is the real deal when it comes to spirituality. The ashram is very welcoming to foreigners like me and two of the Swamis there - Swami Prahladananda and Swami Probuddhananda - speak the Queen's English better than me, an Englishman! 😄 Most importantly though, the classes given have made a great difference in my life. Since visiting my mind has become a lot quieter and I have realised many things. The love and attention these Swamis give to our spiritual paths is truly moving too.

Another great thing is that it caters for both people into Indian devotional path as well as those more interested in the philosophy/knowledge path. And there is never any expectation that you give any money either like other so-called teachers and gurus.

If there is one place you visit while in Varanasi, please make it this one.

International Vedanta Society ashram in Varanasi is a treasure for all true spiritual seekers. What you will find there is a real place for your spiritual uplift and a real India. Is not a place for "prepared spiritual courses for foreigners". Is a place where the realization of Truth can be attained as Sri Bhagavan, the founder of this organization and our spiritual master, is a giant in this realm.
If you arrive to this ashram, look with the eyes of the heart and try to go deep in yourself. You will see that the whole place will help you to deep inside.
Ask any question to Swamijis. You will see how deep is their wisdom and how their help will be precious.

The International Vedanta Society ashram located near the Dasaswamedh Ghat is a place where the monks of IVS live, practice and spread the philosophy of Vedanta, the ancient wisdom of India.

If you are a person seeking truth and spirituality this is the place to visit in Varanasi. I first visited the ashram in 2009 and the monks accepted me wholeheartedly with love and kindness like I have never experienced anywhere else in the world. Since then I have also visited the ashram in 2014.

I definitely recommend it to everyone who has come to Varanasi for spirituality.

Lot of singing and teaching of Vedas. An intersting visit to the ashram. I would advise religious minded people to visit.

I went to the Vedanta society a few times with a friend of mine in the beautiful city of Varanasi. We sang very beautiful, peaceful and devotional mantras and were very well accompanied by a member of the society that played the accordion. After singing and a short meditation we had a private lecture about the essence of Vedanta, namely the remembrance and recognition of our true nature, our divine being (consciousness). I think we talked for about two hours without noticing how fast the time went. The member of the society really took his time and explained the essence very clearly. Thank you very much for this experience! Much love, licht and guidance
