About
Standing on the western bank of India's holiest river Ganges, Varanasi is the oldest surviving city of the world and the cultural capital of India. It is in the heart of this city that there stands in its fullest majesty the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in which is enshrined the Jyotirlinga of Shiva, Vishweshwara or Vishwanath.

    Sacred and serene
This is one of the most temples in India and ofcourse the main attraction centre of this city. Visiting this temple is one of the must to do activities. Tickets are usually available for quick visit. We were happy to visit this temple, so much positive energy and vibrations. Our guide also explained the history of this place which was so sad.

    Wow Divine and so grand
Surely PM Modi has done a lot of work here, easily accessible , clean, open, plenty of space, lots of amenities , I even saw a VIP lounge here, and washroom facilities apart from locker. Had divine darshan of Mahadev. You may come here from river Ganges side also on boats. I wish other temple premises could be extended like this.

Overall nice experience. Wish to visit Bholenath the third time from Nepal. Waiting for his call. last time I was here in 2019, drastic changes could be seen in and around the temple. Everything looks different in a good way.

Requirements for Foreigners Darshan at Kashi Viswanath Temple
Foreigners visiting Viswanath Temple, are required to be Hindus. We had renounced our birth religion and converted to Hinduism at Arya Samaj in Calicut, Kerala many years ago and carried testimonial cards issued by the organization. At Kashi Viswanath Temple, we were fortunate to be picked up by a Brahmin guide near gate 4, (Foreigners Entrance) who shepherded us through the entire process. First, We were required to go to the Vishwanath Temple headquarters (an orange building) near gate 4. Fortunately we were able to use digital photos of our Indian Visas on our phone, (Best if you have your actual passport) which were required to secure temple tickets 700 rupees each. Bought milk for abhishekam and a flower mala (100Rs) and left our mobile devices in a locker, and shoes in same shop. ( one can not bring camera, phone, leather wallet or belt into temple, these are required to be left in locker). The Brahmin sent us with his teenage son into a very very fast VIP line for a wonderful darshan with minimal stress. We only had 1000 Rs left after our darshan and we gave it all to our guide…I am sure he usually got much more…but gracefully accepted our dakshina. Aum Namah Shivaya!

    Varanasi Sri Viswanath temple Dharshan
We were visiting Varanasi on 16th and 19th Feb. On 16th we had very good dharshan on Rs.300 Tkt around noon. There was not much croud and we had very peaceful and divine Dharshan. But on 19th evening we also had Dharshan during abhishegam which was performed by six or seven priests and hence we could have only partial dharshan that too for few seconds. The Viswanth dham now is spaciaus and after Ganga arthi at Dasashvametha ghat we went to temple directly which is just 200 metres.

    Good Darshan
We visited the temple late evening around 730 / 8 pm and it was not very crowded, this was the normal line. Total time we would have taken around 40 mins to finish the darshan. While doing darshan keep close eye on deity which is almost hidden behind wall created around it to protect it. The most important point is keep your mobile and other belonging in free locker provided by the mandir itself near Gate no 4. I discourage you to keep it with other shops as they would charge atrocious amount for it (they would say free locker) but then ask for money. There is also paid darshan for 300Rs. in which there is almost not much crowd. Avoid mondays as it is Shiv God's day so in general the crowd is more on that day. For other who would want to visit the temple and touch God, darshan is open from 3 am to 4 am in the morning.

First Hindi Temple we visited on Day 2
Similar to other Hindi Temples we visited on Day 2, we had to take off our shoes and leave our cell phones at the Reception Area. The lines were long, but my local guide knows his way around here and were able to see the gods/goddess quicker. Highly recommended to visit, use a local guide to help you enjoy your visit.

Kashi Vishwanath Darshan - Om Nama Shivai
Blessed to get the chance to visit the world famous Kashi Temple which is also called as Golden Temple. During weekends and special days the crowd is immense and a record 5 lakh people had visited on one particular Sunday. Plan your visit well in advance and book online VIP tickets which will save you some few hours of waiting and the pandit accompanying you will also explain all details of the temple. Mobiles are not allowed inside so plan your visit accordingly to reach your driver/ family members

Make up your mind on a couple of seconds of Darshna vs your expectations
Spritual touring needs to follow some norms. World over it's the foremost travel but in India, even though there are hundreds of Temples associated with the Acts of God's but there are also equally huge numbers of visitors. One gets a feeling of being pushed over through it in seconds, not even minutes. I visited both Kashi Vishwanath temple, though earlier visited many times but this one was the costliest as well as the quickest, and also the Ram Lalla's at Ayodhya, another pushover tour. One spends days to visit such places but can't even spend a few minutes before the Lord inorder to open up his mind n soul. What's the purpose then of going. Henceforth I will have to evaluate these questions. Thanks

Visited today, strange and sad system for foreigners to visit.
First head to gate 4, about 400foot from gate you will see an orange building, go in find enquires, they will ask for passports.
Passports are copied and a fee of 600 rupees each is levied.
For this you get a scarf and a guide (ours spoke very poor English), you leave bags, phones and camera in locker, you then walk to gate 4, go through security checks, take off shoes, enter first shrine and get marks on forehead, enter 2nd shrine, get red tread on right wrist, get shoes walk back to orange building, get belongings, use toilet and leave. And your guide would like a tip please.
No time to linger and appreciate the temples no explanation or history.
Per minute most expensive temple anywhere, visit took less than 5 minutes that included walk and checks, not sure if it is a race or something.

This is a very important Shiva temple, and it really worth the visit. It attracts crowds. The big problem is the unbelievable difficulty to get there inside. Long queues, rude (as always) policeman around there, strict security to get inside. Then, inside the temple, some other security people make it almost impossble to get an adequate darshan, pushing people to hurry.

first you must buy a ticket some 100 meter from the entrance of this heavily secured place. the ticket (with your own priest-guide) costs 600 Rs. He takes you to this most sacred temple in whole Varanasi and shows you around the place - many temples and places with different rituals. You can also buy gifts for the gods but not necessarily. you'll still get blessings to your forehead. Enjoy :)

Normally no non-Hindus, but exceptions! Origin in the mists of time, predating the Buddha probably. The records destroyed in the many wars. The very mention or sight of the Deity (a stone Baetylus or Omphalos) induces extreme rapture or reverence in devout Hindus). It is a symbol of the Lord Shiva, who is in nature an infinite pillar of fire, light or energy whose ends the other Gods could not find, many legends.eg Temple of Apollo and Delphic Oracle. Believing that Nature is positive and of infinite power is all that is needed to feel the power. He is available to all and Hindus worship him as Lord Shiva. There are beautiful reliefs carved all over the perfectly symmetric Temple. Recently very learned and accomplished priests of Lord Shiva denomination from Karpaga Vinayagar Temple at Pillaiyarpatti , Sivaganga Distt., did the Mahakumbhishekham or reconsecration by pouring Ganges water on the Temple Tower from steps on a structure leading to the summit , but not touching the tower or temple. Being India, and an ancient sanctum, we braved the cold at 1am in the morning , braving long queues and waiting to be granted admission to the presence of the Lord. The Lingam or Omphalos is non-anthromorphic and belongs to a very ancient lineage in Hinduism and might have been a cult spreading over the Indus Valley (??), Iran, Iraq and the holy Land in ancient times worshipping this stone form of Divine power.
Walking or rickshaw from Godowlia Chowk/ Dasashwamedh Ghat.

We had booked for 2 sevas online, including the Rudra Abishek and Mangal Aarti. For the Rudra Abishek, at the ticket office itself, we were assigned a priest who led us in, performed the rudra abishek and took us into the main sanctum sanctorum amidst the evening crowd and got us to perform the abishek on the main linga. THERE WAS NO ASKING FOR ANY GRATIS.
By mistake we had booked the Mangal Aarti seva for the day we reached Varanasi and hence could not attend the aarti. We went to the office, explained our situation and the office graciously changed the ticket to the next day without a fuss.

As a foreigner, the only way in is through the trust, where you pay 600 rp and they assign you a priest to show you the temple.
The "priest" is a man who takes you to the temple, then pushes you through the queue, puts a blessing on your forehead and then forces you to leave the temple.
We weren't able to see the Shiva, as he took us while people were giving the deity the flowers and gifts.
No explanation at all, he even got mad when we asked him if we could stay for 5 mins and look for a bit.

So the famous Kashi Vishwanath temple has to be visited if one is in Varanasi. This ancient temple has a atmosphere of the past around it. It was not very crowded when we went so we managed to reach the sacred area easily and could do a pooja with the help of the pundits who were obviously very willing to help at a price.
However the whole process was not very organised. The temple was not very clean. One had to leave the bag, camera etc in a locker. Advisable to carry some old socks to wear and napkins.
The way to the temple is through a narrow lane market which is very very crowded at all times. So be vigilant but visit surely as this is one of the most ancient temples

Kashi Vishwanath is one of the most sacred holy places for Hindus. I would advise carrying the bare minimum, and then, getting a locker near the temple's exit so that you can leave footwear and phone there. The queue on Saturday took me 45 mins, end to end and the arrangement was very orderly. We were allowed as much time as we wanted in the temple complex. For whoever wants to, the Puja is available for â‚ą450 and whatever donation for the priest. A visit to the garbhagruha was arranged as well but since my friends got it arranged I'm not sure, honestly, of what warrants it.
The energy here is fab. The saddest part is seeing the Nandi with its back to the temple because the original Temple was in another place, under what is currently the mosque. Once the Ganga Corridor is made, I want to visit again and see the difference.

Kashi Vishwanath Temple. The newly renovated temple with wider access and more facilities for the devotees and the tourist alike has increased the ease of visiting this one of the most important religious site. While some areas are still under development and other cordoned off, its still a must visit just to experience the energy of the place. For security reasons taking any electronic device is strictly prohibited including watches and small gadgets too. There are multiple gates for entry including the old entrance which goes through Godowlia market which has a long serpentine queue, however just ask for Gate 4 entrance, which is far more easier. Also there are paid access as well which if for INR 300/- pp, in which a priest would take you to the temple and bring back quickly, you also get free locker and prasad (this is an official service again on the way to Gate 4), but this service is from 6am to 6pm and the booking can be done via online or at the counter during these hours. Locker facility is also available separately for INR 20/-.

ProTip: Parking is a challenge in Godowlia by itself, so avoid taking your own vehicle, also the official Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust Helpdesk is a good place to get the Prasad and the locker facility, so avoid falling for tourist traps.
