It was a very fabulous day, and was the second time when me and my friends gather fo Ganga Aarti , It was so holy, Sounds of Prayer, Bhajan and lamp of Diyas was mind blowing, Must attend once if you are in Varanasi
Ganga Aarti is relatively new to Varanasi - it's imported for tourism, really. And you can feel it. It is "performed" expertly and I don't think there is any intention to be false to the tradition - but it feels a bit stagey. The best...More
The ghats were overflowing with mother ganga waters so it was a bit uncomfortable finding a place to attend the aarti. We went to the oldest place which is run by Priest Babu ji. If you are willing to pay an additional Rs. 400 to...More
Experience of a lifetime.
It can't get better than this. Worship of River Ganga/ Ganges with full pomp and spirit.
The participants are well dressed in a singular uniform code and perform the Aarti exactly as per rituals.
The sight and moment both are mesmerizing...More

We watched Ganga Aarti in the evening. We started from Assi Ghat and sailed through various ghats to reach Dashashwamedh and Rajendra Prasad Ghat. There we stayed in boat for watching Aarti. One should reach there between before 07:00 pm.

There are quite a few things to see in and around Varanasi. Ganga Aarti will keep you busy from 6 pm onwards. You can get a boat for best view of the Aarti from the water. The boat guy will also give you a tour of the other ghats near there and tell you a bit about the history and mythology behind them. You can go to Vishwanath Mandir (half a day). Best time to go to the mandir is early morning.
Additionally you can see Manas Mandir on BHU campus which has the whole Ramcharitra Manas inscribed on the wall inside the main hall. Sankat Mochan is another temple that people go to for worshipping Hanuman. Sarnath is nearby and has a Budhha Shanti Stup. If you want to do all you will need a minimum of three days.
If all you have is 24 hours then arrive early afternoon, do the Ganga Aarti in the evening and Vishwanath Mandir in the morning. This way you can wrap up the two most important things.
