We visited Chowk for shopping some local chikan work clothes. The area is full of shops that sell good quality chikan work at reasonable rates. The place is crowded and not suitable for taking kids along for peaceful shopping. Do not miss the makkhan Malai sold here during the winters.

It's one of the shopping areas in Lucknow. It has many shops selling different types of Chikan embroidery. You will also find many shops selling zari designs as well.
In addition, there are many restaurants around. The one thing we enjoyed the most was the Malai Makhan(we went during the winter season). It is soft and creamy and is sold around the market. It's a must-try.

This is the old part of Lucknow. Heard this was where the kothas existed in the old days. Now this is a very busy place for eating and shopping.
Numerous options for food, especially sweet items. As street breakfast we had bukse wala khasta, Makhan malai and thandai. Later we returned for some famed Lucknowi chikan work.
A must visit for any tourist.

It must obviously be the busiest place in Lucknow. It is a very noisy and crowded place with narrow streets in the old part of Lucknow. But you can't miss it coz when in Lucknow you are looking for Chikankari to shop for, this is the place to be.

Once in Lucknow, it is always tempting to buy world famous Chikan Cloths. So search for cheap and best takes us to Chowk Market. Travelled in a E-rickshaw for more than 40 minutes from Odeon Cinema to reach here. Lots of shops are there. Do not forget to bargain.

Heard that it was a good place for shopping as well as street food. True that the shops are cheaper than those is Hazratgang and not so fancy. You will need to search for good bargains in the lanes. Do not take a car there. Go to the closest area and hire an electric tuk tuk. The oldest Tunday Kebab outlet is there which is in a narrow lane full of motorbikes going to and fro. Quite an adventure to reach that place.

Chowk is a bustling market area near Lucknow‘s attractions. It has several shops where you can buy a variety of items from chikan work to jewellery to food items. The famous makhan malai can also be found here during winters and is a must try item.

Chowk, Lucknow is the perfect destination for you if you are fond of good food and Lucknowi Chikan-kari.
Outside Gol Darwaza, delicacies like Makkhan Malai (that is certainly NOT butter and cream, please !) during winters is a must have. Its actually milk converted into foam through overnight processing of milk. And it is purely divine. It melts in mouth leaving saffron cardamom flavour behind. If you leave it without refrigerator for long, it dissolves and converts into flavoured Saffron Milk (Chilled Kesar Milk); if you have bought Kesaria Makkhan Malai (Saffron Flavoured Makkhan Malai).
Chowk has 200 years old Ram Asrey in Baan Wali Gali. The Malai ke Paan (a kind of Sweet; very thin layer of milk cream stuffed with Mishri and Cashew Nuts) is just outworldly. Reading about it may not be so exciting as eating it certainly is. Give it a try. The original creators of this sweet is in Chowk. You will get Malai ke Paan at most of the best sweet shops in Lucknow, but the one at Ram Asrey Chowk, Lucknow is just so different, so soft and just inexplainable. There are other super sumptuous delicacies too at Ram Asrey, Chowk, which can be tried. Just select any one sweet or salted delicacy and decide for yourself which one to eat and which one to leave ! They are all so tasty !!!
Outside Gol Darwaza is Radhey Lal Sweet Shop. The Sweets, Khasta Kachauri are so yummy that you will long for more.
Outside Chowk Kotwali, (that is how it is known locally, the Chowk Police Station) sits the Khasta walas in the morning. They sell Khasta Kachauri with Aaloo; known as Khasta Aaloo (Potato veg). They have three variants: Soft, Medium and Hard Khasta. It is favourite breakfast for residents of Chowk and for people who are aware of it. They drive down to Chowk, especially for these Khastas, Radhey Lal ki Jalebi and Makkhan Malai as Breakfast.
Forget calorie count sometimes and just enjoy LIFE ! You've got only one ! Walking/Jogging in the evening is a good option :)
Tundey Kababs, if you enjoy Non-Veg is in Chowk. It is so famous that people from far off places come to enjoy the Kebabs at Tundey Kababs.
Road side Chaat is another great attraction in Chowk. It can be enjoyed at Radhey Lal or shops that are opposite to Goddess Santoshi Temple in Chowk.
Lassi is another superb delicacy to enjoy at Ram Asrey and Radhey Lal. They serve chilled Lassi (made of curd) garnished with Saffron, nuts and a tinge of Rabree (if you so desire). Rabree can be bought as a delicacy in itself from any of these two places. It is a milk preparation.
Chikan (NOT Chicken) is something Lucknow is famous for. It is a threadwork on different type of garments. It can be on Gents Kurta or Ladies Suits. Saree, Night Dress or Dupatta. Advanced form, it is also done for Bedcovers, PillowCovers, Curtains, Sofa Covers, Hankeys etc.
They can be done on Cotton Fabric with Cotton Thread or Silk with Silk Thread or Vice-versa. The cost varies with the type of thread and fabric. Chowk is famous for Chikankari (Chikan work on clothes). Chikan Shops are everywhere in Chowk; at both sides of the road, inside Gol Darwaza etc. The range of dress/dress material is reasonable. Prices are well put, not enough scope for bargaining because shop-keepers already put very reasonable price to their products.
You go to any food outlet or roadside vendors or old shops; food or cloth; one thing which is common is manners and sophistication; Tehzeeb and Nazakat ! With extremely developed soft skills in the way of speaking, immense manners and sophistication, you will be nothing but full of all admiration for Chowk Lucknow. If you really want to learn some management and soft skills, visit Chowk Lucknow. Your Management classes during MBA or equivalent degree might not have taught you that much which they practice every day without any such formal degree in Management !
Ek baar Chowk Lucknow jaiye, Aap khud-b-khud fida-e-chowk ho jayenge !

On Nadan Mahal road, I saw a bustling antique and a junk market this morning. It is indeed interesting, if you have some sort of interest in junk or antique collection. Not bad to visit it on Sunday morning (comes up on Sundays only)

As Lucknow is just like Delhi, where old and new city is there. Old city has not wider roads but new one like gomti nagar etc have, You may opt either car or three wheeler. For old city three wheeler is better.
