I've travelled around the world, and have had MANY many tour guides. Our guide in Agra, Sanjay, was one of the best I've ever had. We were staying at the Oberoi, and as we rode the shuttle cart back to our hotel from Agra after sunset on the first night (when we visited the Taj without a guide), I was listening to Sanjay talk to the group he was guiding and was very impressed by what he was telling his group. I didn't know who he was, but when we requested a guide from the hotel to show us around the next day, he was the one who showed up. This was my second time visiting Agra, the Taj Mahal and the Agra Fort--this time with my wife, and Sanjay was the greatest guide ever. His knowledge of the history and background of the Taj Mahal and the Fort were amazing, and he showed us every nook and cranny, explaining things in a clear a lucid manner that made history come alive. We chose not to opt for a professional photographer (I had one the first time I visited) and Sanjay took many many wonderful pictures of us with our cameras: they turned out better than those taken by the pro on my first visit. He got us into locked areas that were out of bounds for all tourists except VIPs. My wife and I laugh at our experiences in many places (like Siem Reap) with guides who babble on and one incessantly when we just want to take in the beauty of the place. Sanjay knows when to speak and when to let the beauty of a place speak for itself, and everything he had to say was worthy of note. He is a wonderful, interesting guy with a great worldview, and we very much enjoyed our time with him. Many guides are shills, taking you to place after place to shop for tchotchkes and cheap souvenirs. Sanjay did not at all push, but on our request took us to a place where we were able to buy some beautiful and very high quality items and a very fair price.
We really very much enjoyed our time spent with Sanjay. He is a wonderful, interesting guy, and one of the best guides I've ever experienced. He's fluent in English AND Japanese--and I believe in Italian as well. A very smart, personable and interesting guy. HIGHLY recommended to get maximum enjoyment out of your visit to Agra.

He provided a wonderful tour of the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and other impressive historic sites in the area over a long weekend. Sanjay is smart, intelligent and polite. I'd highly recommend his services.

We had the great pleasure of having Mr. Sanjay be our tour guide through the Taj Mahal and Agra. His incredible knowledge of each and every detail and history of this wonder of the world, along with his perfect English (Spanish and Japanese, too) and his genuine passion for his job made for a very special guided tour. We were taken to part of the Taj that other tourists were not privy too, and Sanjay knew just the right spots to get the very best shots. He has guided dignitaries such as President Clinton, and many many more. He is actually a professor and teaches other local tour guides in Agra.
He gently but firmly kept away the hawkers and we were able to enjoy this jewel of a monument in a guided, knowledgeable and peaceful way. Sanjay helped us avoid all of the other crowds and navigated us to the most precious spots.
I would highly recommend if you are lucky enough to have Mr, Sanjay himself be your guide. You too will experience the "royal treatment" from this terrific guide and lovely person.

My hotel helped me book a tour guide for the Taj Mahal. I highly recommend having a tour guide especially if you're traveling solo and female. There are way too many people who approach you and try to sell you items right outside the Taj Mahal. Sanjay Srivastava was my tour guide. He was very knowledgeable about the Taj Mahal and provided lots of nice facts. He said he was a doctor, but did not like that occupation, so he decided to be a tour guide instead. He helped push away a lot of the people who were trying to sell me souvenirs, which made me think that he was a genuine person. If the tour ended right after the Taj Mahal, I would give him 5 stars. However, after the Taj, he insisted that I visit another place. He kept saying that all tourists should see this place, and it was on my way out of Agra anyhow. Not thinking anything of it, I agreed. At first I thought it was Agra Fort, but it turns out it was a place that should marble furniture. I entered into a warehouse, which was extremely intimidating as I was a solo traveler. Once inside Sanjay sat outside (as if he had nothing to do with the place) and let some other guy talk to me about the marble. It was one big furniture store (Kalakriti was the name, I think). The guy wouldn't take "no" for an answer and continued to harass me and talked about how many families used their hands to create the marble furniture (trying to play on my emotions). As I was trying to leave, the guy stopped me again and tried to sell me smaller items such as cup coasters, picture frames, etc. I had to raise my voice and storm out. If Sanjay didn't take me there, where I felt extremely uncomfortable and unsafe, he would get a higher rating. But what he did was very sketchy. I'm sure he gets a commission if I actually bought something. I cannot recommend him because this.

Sanjay Srivastava toured myself and my wife to Tal Mahal and Lal Kila. He is very knowledgeable and shared with us a lot about history of the two places. He communicated well and kept us well informed. He kept a good pace and did not seem to be in a hurry. We would be glad to recommend him to anyone intersted.

We had a fantastic time with Shri Sanjay. We started the day early (0600) to arrive at the Taj Mahal before the crowds.
We had our knowledge upgraded from years of rumours and corrected by a genuine historian.
He took his time and explained the stories so well not to mention knowing where and how to take the best photographs!!
Our journey west of Agra was absolutely worth the one hour drive to see Fatehpur Sikri. Wow, this palace/fort is an amazing hidden treasure of Indian glory days and architectural brilliance.
We were also given good advice about how to deal with and react to the marketeers. We were taken to a brilliant store (Kalakriti) that sells and ships marble inlay products (tables, ornaments and everything imaginable).
He was a pleasant and lovely man and we recommend calling him direct. +919837184455

Chanchal Srivastava was the best guide I've ever had. He took me around the Taj Mahal and Agra fort. He was incredibly knowledgeable about both sites, with historical tidbits and entertaining stories. I was initially anxious about making the trip out from New Delhi just to see the Taj Mahal but Chanchal made the trip more than worth it. I highly recommend him for any sites in the area.

Chanchal was great-- one of our favorites guides over our 8 days in Delhi, Agra, and Rajasthan.
One of the things that really set him apart was that he treated my wife and I equally well, paying attention to both of us. Other guides often ignored my wife, or made us uncomfortable. Chanchal's respect for women was great.
Also, as other folks have said, he's a great storyteller, and really makes the story of the Taj come alive.
Best guide! Don't book anyone else.

We visited Agra with my parents and Children (in total 7 members) visited Fatehpur Sikri, Taj Mahal and Agra Fort in 2 days. Mr. Sanjay Srivastava gave quite professional guide in Agra with excellent Japanese. Initially our children don't like such sight seeing but he tried to keep them enjoyed with smart way of talking and gave quite impressive guide to us at the same time.
Especially the guide of Taj Mahal was well organized such as plan (starting time, ticket purchasing, approaching etc) and some secrets quiz and special way of explanations that we did not have with other guide before. We are sure we would chose his service next time as well.
