Must have when you visit Ooty. The track is great and it is very exciting to observe the lokomotive, for train-fans very cool! Nature you can watch is also wonderful!

I elected to stay in Mettupalayam overnight to be at the station to line up for General seating. Hotels in Mettupalayam are not as good as Coimbatore, but I was way down on the waiting list for first class. I got to the station at 05:00, and there were already a dozen people in line. Some Westerners who were ahead... More

Oh God! This one train journey never to be missed. Although we are from Mumbai and not too excited about trains, Nilgiri Mountain Railway is never to be missed. We took the tickets around 2 hours earlier from private contractor and waited nearly for 90 mins for the train to arrive. Our journey was from Ooty to Coonoor. This is... More

The railway relies on its fleet of steam locomotives.NMR comes under the jurisdiction of the newly formed Salem Division. Wheeeee! I am on a toy train ride. We took train from Coonoor and reached Ooty in the train. As it's our first such experience in the Mountain Railway, we enjoyed it. Though it was not scenic or full of excitements. If you had experienced it before at any other place, you may not find it worth. The train left from Coonoor to Ooty at regular intervals and... More

We took the railway from Ooty to Coonoor, then had a taxi back to Ooty. Travelled in First Class (as it was a few decades ago). Do not expect ANY kind of luxury, but enjoy the fun. A train ride of just over an hour, with typical views of this area, so a few photo opportunities en-route. Youngsters would certainly... More

One should never miss this in Ooty. Really a great journey. If lucky enough people might get to see wild bisons during the journey.

Nice Ride along the mountains.. Practical way to experience is taking Ooty to Coonoor passenger.. It is a hour ride and has some awesome views and goes through few tunnels which is exciting for the kids..But do go early to book the tickets as it tends to get full.
