You can go to this temple before or after visiting Madurai Meenachi temple as it is very near. There is a lot of local shops around if you wish to purchase anything. The Vishnu God will be different postures like sitting, standing and reclining in a vertical pane.

This Perumal temple in Madurai like all other perumal temples is neat and clean. The temple structure is architecturally beautiful and well maintained. There are two levels higher than the main temple which are accessible by steps. Temple is on the way to alagar koil and is a must see during visit to Madurai.

Koodalalagar Temple is one of the old temples in Madurai for Lord Vishnu. This temple is one of the 108 Divya Desam and speciality is Ashtanga Vimana which is unique to this temple. Different festivals were celebrated through out the year and Tamil month of Marghazhi is auspicious for this temple. This temple situated near to Periyar Bus stand and Railway Station. It was really nice visit to this temple during these festival days. As saturday is special for Lord Vishnu, good rush there in temple.

This temple is dedicated to Vishnu in form of Kallalagar, he is being the brother of Meenakshi. The temple structures are still been maintained with heritage values, quite a old temple the culture followed here are systematic, the culture is this god once in a year visit on a horse to the main temple of Meenakshi to witness the marriage of his sister, unfortunately he missed out on this due to flooding of river Vaigai the story goes on. Cameras are ok, need around 1 hour for the visit of this temple.

Earlier i had visited the Kallalagar Temple in Alagarkoil, but through oversight had posted that review in the Koodal Alagar Temple. But this time i visited the Koodal Alagar Temple. Well maintained and clean temple. One of the few temples which provides the option for the devotees to have darshan of Lord in Vimanam(Vimana Darshanam)Vimanam contains the darshan of Lord in Standing and Sleeping Posture. The main sanctum contains the posture of Lord in sitting position. This temple is situated at a 40 minutes from Madurai Airport.

Must visit temple

This is the temple where periyazvar sang pallandu, for perumal.
A Divya desam that simply cannot be missed.

A visit to this temple is certain to make you at peace, especially if you get a chance to visit during the evenings.

What caught me by surprise was that, one can circle around the sanctum sanctorum, immediately around the karpagraham & moolavar - Unlike most other older divya desams.

Make sure to plan out a good one hour at the least, to experience the divinity and feast on the sculptures, beautiful paintings & architectural beauty.

There are three floors in this temple and the perumal is seen in different postures (sitting, standing & reclined). Ask for directions to the upper floors.

The thayar, chakkarathaazvar & andal sannidhis are not to be missed.

This temple is very near to the railway station - if you'd take an auto it would cost not more than 40 Rs.

This was one of best temple visit experience. We reached closer to temple closing time (12pm).

There was no rush during that time and priest asked us to come inside to see the deity from closer (both in perumal & mahalakshi temple).

We were told to wait for 5 minute if we can cause prasadm distribution happens after 12pm. We received the prasadam and hten left temple.
