The temple sure is huge. But not maintained so well for such a famous temple. The temple is always crowded even at the oddest hour of day. The poojaris ask for kanike themselves which was very unexpected.

The temple is huge. Recommend going round in the evening - we got there at 5pm and it was cooler and not too busy. Definitely worth having a guide to show you round. Lots to see and easy to get lost. Really glad we stayed for the closing ceremony - absolutely fascinating to watch. Beware of people who give you... More

A huge temple complex that's a must visit - whether you're religious or otherwise. Splendid architecture and vibrant display of Indian diversity at its best. The 1000 pillar hall isn't to be missed and so is an evening spent at the footsteps of the temple pond watching people come and go.

Recommend you have a guide who can site you at the best spots and explain what is going on. The lighting and the massive nature of the place make the experience otherworldly

This temple complex is neat, clean housing Shiva & Meenakshi Amman Temple. A guide is must to understand the architecture, how the temple was built over Centuries, mythological association, museum, the pillars & Lord Shiva's drum that emit musical notes. Without a guide one would be lost in this huge complex.

This is a truly amazing place to visit. It's scale, age and history is something to experience and never forget. You mus be bare feet, although socks were acceptable. NO cameras or iPads but phones were okay (?) for the time being. Temple full of stalls selling all sorts of things for virtually nothing. Car park has ladies placing dye... More

Visited the temple on a Thursday with my family, including a 2-year old. This was my 3rd visit to the temple and by far the best. Basics first - If you are coming in your own vehicle, car parking is situated near the east tower, 500 meters from the entrance. Shoe and slipper stand is close to the entrance and... More
