This temple is huge a take a certain time to visit. The exterior is impressive as well. Interestingly, you can't bring a video camera (not sure about a camera) inside the temple but smart phones are allowed and people use them for photos and videos. There is a ceremony in the evening where they take Shiva to bed. The ceremony... More

Because we were close to its afternoon closing time, our guide suggested that we see the temple from the outside only. We walked along all four walls, stopping at each entrance to take photos and to enjoy the various people and their activities surrounding the temple. Lots to see. There are also some excellent shops around the temple with high... More

This temple is definitely worth going to see as it is probably one of the most important temples in all of India and its sheer size and age are fascinating. Due to security concerns no cameras are allowed in but cell phones and their cameras are allowed. Remember proper clothing required meaning long pants men and women, also shoulders must... More

It is indeed a great experience to visit the temple, its giant sculptures are beyond the creative sphere of our times. I had gone to the temple with multiple expectations; first to see the architectural and sculptures, second the local taste of culture and third the spiritual realm of the temple. First and second were beyond expectation however the spiritual... More

Sri Meenakshi Amman Temple is an amazing place to visit and its a very huge temple, it has large tombs (Gopurams) all the four sides, a tank, plenty of sculpture, more divine place and good for pilgrimage. It takes minimum 2-3 hours to see all the places around and best time to visit this temple is early hours. Those who... More

Visited in the evening with guide who told us the history of the temple. Worth doing this. The temple itself was very busy and noisy with many pilgrims there. Really good to see. The temple itself is astonishing and colourful. Outside the temple there are some good shops fir buying local goods.

I visited the Meenakshi Temple whilst on a school trip in India and it was definitely worth it! The Temples are all so beautiful and intricately designed. We had a guided tour and learnt so much about the history and religion it was amazing. Would definitely recommend visiting.
