Visit to Meenakshi temple is a must for all! Ancient architecture, skilled carvings, paintings, original handwork of historic artisans fill this abode of the Goddess of health, wealth, a consort of Lord Shiva!

Normally 2Adults + 2 kids are allowed. Even if you book thru online you have contact directly well in advance. Also for 630 pooja you have to be in temple by 515-530.

A fabulous day in Madurai - trip report (15 Replies)
Madurai surprised me as a highlight of our trip to Tamil Nadu thanks to our wonderful private guide Dhana Bala who we found on this forum. An early 7:30 start saw us walking with Bala through the quiet streets as the city awoke to the wonderful Sri Meenakshi Temple. Past the tailors, flower offering sellers and camel photo man to all the different areas of the temple. I'm usually more of an outdoor person but this huge temple is amazing. Then it was on to the adjacent museum before jumping...More

Chettinadu Mansion (8 Replies)
We're off to Kerala at Christmas this year and on our travels are diverting to Tamil Nadu, staying 3 nights at the above hotel. Anyone out there have any experiences of it, and is there much to do and see in the area? ( We have already booked a trip to Madurai to the Sri Meenakshi Temple).

He used to work in Kerala before . When you are there don't miss metreguuage train journey ,athangudi tile factories& weekly shandy .

The itinerary is good and well spaced out. However my personal opinion is - it's kind of a 'Temple overload' . . . . . . I'd probably add a hill station and a wildlife sojourn to balance out this long plan. Regards Rajan
