Our excellent guide was very knowledgable about the whole process of preparing different types of tea & chai. All the processes were underway when we visited in January. At the end of the trip you can try each kind and take a look at essential oil and chocolate production. I came away with a deep appreciation of the work involved in our daily cuppa!

Shown around by Dev who was so interesting in explaining the workings of tea production. Took time to explain everything explicitly and patiently plus the shop selling their chocolate making.
Took time to enquire which tea was best suited to us whilst also explaining the medicinal properties of alternative teas.

We have visited this beautiful tea estate during our sightseeing in Coonoor. Entrance is free and there is lot to see and learn at this place. A volunteer first took us to the tea Factory and explained in detail the multiple steps process of how brown tea granules get created from green tea leaves. Next we visited the oil making unit where another volunteer explained the process of how oil is extracted from different varieties of leaves. Next we visited the chocolate factory cum outlet where we tasted delicious chocolate samples. Finally we roamed inside the vast stretch of tea garden and silver oak trees soaking in the breathtaking views and natural beauty. This place is a must visit when in Coonoor.

It was a wonderful visit to this tea factory. A worker showed us the entire process of tea making. You can click photos inside the factory as well. The factory has its own tea estate. Click as many photos you wish to inside this tea estate. No fees! It is a wonderful location in Coonoor. You get to taste a pint of tea at the end of the tour, and obviously after drinking that, you want to buy it as well..! Do visit this factory!

You can visit the factory within 10 minutes. They will offer four kinds of testy tea at free of cost. Take a sip and you can purchase any flavour of the tea from their shop. If you have previous experience to visit tea factories in Darjeeling or Kurseong then it is recommended not to visit the place. You find the same ambiance and same experience.

It was a great visit to this Tea Factory, clearly understood how exactly tea is manufactured. It is a unique opportunity to visit something like a tea factory where tea processing procedure can be seen. First visit the Tea Farms and then enter into the factory and see step by steep process from actual green leaves getting dried up on a blower to cutting them and making powder, their is no guide available to take you to different machines and explain but you can talk respective people at different machines they will explain you in detail. They are more than happy to explain. Monday's are holidays so don't go on a Monday the factory will be under maintenance. Highfield Tea powder is available here for the tourist to taste and buy, you get to taste 5-6 different varieties of teas, and you will also get to purchase nice masalas and different type of natural oils from this Highfield Tea tasting store.
By the way the approach road to this place is breath taking you can view scenic beauty places on the way and click pictures.

The staff was humble and courteous to show the machines and explain the tea processing phenomenon.

Then we went for clicks in tea plantation site where the views are amazing.

One of the few things to actually visit in Coonoor.

The place itself is open and easy to navigate and roam around. Starts with a small guided tour. Easy bits of information one can remember later. stuff like Green tea, white tea...
Looking at the machinery and picking process.
After that you are left to explore on your own.
There is a turpentine oil distillation unit also. worth a quick look.

Then there is this on premise store for spices, tea etc etc.
We also purchased a few items. I wouldn't say they are excellent, but then that's how it is in such factory stores.

worth a visit...

disappointing especially the hard sell of tea, coffee and awful chocolate at the end of the tour. Another tourist disappointment.

stopping at the roadside at another tea growing area was exceptional watching the tea-pickers amazing skills and hard work, this was not an excursion therefore no payment was needed.
