It is an amazing place. The color of the mountain is black. We experienced snow fall when we went there. It was very cold at that time. Better visit this place, early in the morning before going to the lake to avoid the traffic jam. You can play with snow here.

The place is fully covered with snow and the drive to this place is awesome. The roads are bad but it's worth going. We went their in the morning time before we went to Gurudomgmar lake. It started snowing when we reached there and was a bonus. Kids enjoyed playing in snow. It will be freezing cold and you get snow boots and gloves on rent at the place. Rs 100/- per person. Be careful when you are in snow especially if you kids. Please keep the place clean and don't litter.

On the way to returning from Gurudongmar lake we went Kalapathar via chopta valley. The only colours were black and white... the whole area were covered with snow and some black rocks broke the monotony of snow white.. The temp of the place used to lie below zero and snow exists through out the year... this is not as high as Gurudongmar lake.. so less chance of breathing problems and high altitude sickness... that's why children can enjoy in snow making snow idol etc... Every Gurudongmar traveller should go Kalapathar on the way back Lachen

It was -4 degrees when we visited this place early in the morning. You need to take a left diversion after army checkpost enroute to Gurudongmar lake. This lifetime scenery is quite visible from checkpost, but your enthu starts to increase as you start driving uphill. It's snow all around and probably a frozen lake down the stream, and the stream is frozen as well. The moments in this area is restricted by Indian Army and tourists are allowed to go until a certain place

One can lift huge blocks of snow, throw around and slide along the snow terrain. Beware of the frozen parts of the land where one can skid and fall off if you're not wearing a shoe that has a slippery sole

Ensure to wear atleast 3 - 4 layers of clothing, a shoes with good sole that doesn't skid on the frozen ice, some camphor incase you experience breathlessness due to high altitude and first aid for any emergency is a must to carry if you're visiting this place. Above all, a good camera to capture those precious moments and save them for times to remember and cherish

Beautiful place.Naturally alive and in its most pure state.
Public toilets are availble at most places but not clean for most of the time.
Stays are ample but if u like good ones better to stick with 4*.
Wander around and lose yourself to nature and breathe alive.
