- FHTR In RajasthanJaipur, India263 contributionsA Kaleidoscope of Colors and Carvings!Jagdish Temple is more like a mini palace for Lord Vishnu! This 3-story wonder glitters with intricate carvings, from dancing elephants to colourful deities. Inside, the main shrine holds a stunning black stone Lord Vishnu statue, radiating peace. But don't miss the smaller shrines dedicated to other gods – each a unique gem. Bonus points for the rooftop views & friendly atmosphere! A must-see in Udaipur, whether you're spiritual or just love stunning architecture. #UdaipurMustSee #JagdishTemple #DivineVibes #ArchitecturalGems #IndiaTravelsVisited October 2023Traveled with friendsWritten February 7, 2024
- geoff B543 contributionsBeautifully carved templeFree to enter this temple. Beautifully carved marble exterior. People were performing ceremonies inside while we were visiting. Beware of a guy trying to take you into a side door off the temple to sell you paintings. He is a scam artist widely spoken about on this site. We went in and I saw the paintings at the end of the room and as he started to explain about some paintings on the wall we turned around and left.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 21, 2024

Organized a tour in advance with a guide who was able to provide the historical and religious details to enhance our experience. We exited the rear city side gates of the Palace to walk down the hill to this awesome temple in the centre of Udaipur. It was around Diwali so there were plenty of people, had to remove shows before entering as is the norm.

It is situated in the heart of the city. Want to seek peace in mid of market chaos, spend dome time at jagdish temple. The sculpture of temple is so mesmerising that it would made you think that our culture is so rich. Please visit to this temple if you are in Udaipur.

Jagdish temple, which is situated just outside of the City Palace complex. It is another architectural marvel built by the Mewar dynasty. The temple is built with Indo-Aryan style of construction, and it gives the temple a rather distinct nature that can’t be overlooked. Lush halls, a carved ceiling and pillars, along with gorgeously painted halls are some of the highlights of Jagdish temple. Before you plan a visit, here are some interesting things about the temple.
You have to step up so many stairs.

Jagdish temple was built in 1651 just outside the City Palace. It's on 2 mins walking distance from the City Palace and situated in middle of the famous Jagdish chownk market having various quirky handicraft shops, cool cafes, amazing ghats and havelis. One should visit this place for it's majestic architecture.

Beautiful temple, with gorgeously sarved statues. When I reached there, a puja was taking place. Foreigners, beware of a nice man who will speak to you in French and be very friendly, will explain the story of the temple etc. In the end he will propose that you see a shop inside the temple where they sell miniature paintings. To be honest, the work was very beautiful and I did end up purchasing something there (at way to high a price, but I was not in the mindset to bargain). But notheless, be careful if you do not want to feel pressured into buying anything.

This temple is at a walking distance from the City Palace Museum. If you exit the City Palace from the Badi Pol, walk through the Hathi Pol Bazar, you'll reach the temple. It's at a busy intersection (means no parking).
A steep flight of stairs from the road takes you to the main temple. There's space outside the temple to remove & keep your shoes. The stone carvings are outstanding. It reminded us of the Ranakpur temples.
The spire is quite high; it dominates the skyline. It's gratifying to get a glimpse of Lord Vishnu in the temple.

A major highlight of this city is the 7 pm arti where the chants take you into a trance! seeing the devotion of the local people and participating in their ritualistic songs and celebrations is unique.
Go a little early to marvel at the unique architectural design and highly detailed reliefs.... if you love art and sculptures, then this is the place to be.
Sadly this is not handicapped friendly though it has railing for its roughly 100 step climb. It is located near the City Palace and a 5 mins walk from Lal and Gangor Ghat.
