Jeep Ride below the fort, we booked the evening safari near Gujarat-Restaurant for 2250 directly with the guide, (There are few Safari booking stations which charge Rs 3500, so avoid them) and its totally not worth even 2250. What to expect:? A bumpy 4x4 jeep safari along the jungles , View of the Marwar-Mewar Border Gate where tax was collected in earlier days. We didnt spot any animals, except a few cows. If one just want to get a tour of the jungle in the jeep then go ahead otherwise avoid.
Only visit to the lake where there are lot of CatFish are there is worth. It was included in the Safari package.

It is located in the Rajsamand District of Rajasthan. It surrounds the Kumbhalgarh fortress and covers an area of 610.528 km2 (236 sq mi).
There are two time slots to visit sanctuary either in the morning or in the evening, we have visited in the evening time. There is no much sighting happened during our visit but we have seen baby crocodile, parakeets, white breasted kingfisher, Sambal Deer & Royal Stag.
After visiting we felt if we visit in the month of May we get a chance to sight hyena, jackal or wolf. But one thing for the sighting is confirm that it should be purely based on your luck if it is feasible!

the rating is not for the jungle its for the administration , the jungle is exquisite , safari here is controlled by a private group and government has no control over it , the drivers were driving at higher speed than usual and had no knowledge of the jungle , the ride through the rugged terrain was fun though but chances of spotting wild animals are next to null , we also came to know that the same guides offer a guided walking tour which starts from kumbhalgarh fort and ends in the jungle , it will be great experience

I visited this Sanctuary on 17th feb, 2018 and I must say this place is not at all worth. We were charged 2800 for the jeep safari which seems to be a standard price. Please note this place is completely controlled by private operators with the help of govt. forest officials. Gypsy drivers drive so fast in this jungle because they themselves know there is not much to see. I could only spot 4-5 antilopes plus some peacocks. While they say there are bears, foxes, wolfs, leopards etc but in this kind of jungle (hilly jungle) chances of spotting any of them is next to impossible. The tour operators here run night safari which they try to sell you over day safaris. I checked with couple of locals and they said itās a scam to earn money & chances of spotting animals during night is also impossible. You can also do trek in this jungle and take forest guide for Rs. 200 which I think would be better thing to do. Kumbhalgarh is a great place but safari is not worth it unless you want to waste some money.

The timing we chose was not correct to do the Jungle Safari as we could not find many Animals, the ride in the Safari was like a Roller Coaster with the Gypsy moving over the stoned rocky paths, after the complete safari we were like recovering from the Jolts that we had undergone. The complete 2 hours journey into and out of the Safari had been more of a Joy ride then a Safari. Although we managed to site the KingFisher, Monkeys, Wild Boars and Eagles

me and my wife went around august last year.the weather is perfect with cloudy skies and not a hint of heat as in rest of rajasthan.before coming here i never knew we have the second longest fort in india after great wall of china.i was taken a back by this.but the experience of walking by its walls give you and impression your in great wall.the jungle safari was ok i didnt cherished it a lot if one compares it to corbett, kanha or to say kaziranga.but the fort was realy catchy..the next time i will try to scale it as far as possible

We stayed at Club Mahindra Kumbhalghar with my family. With two kids along Jungle Safari was very much on the agenda. Though I had not read much about specific wildlife there, was interested in making the trip. It offers a complete different experience as against the regular temples and historic places. The jungle was declared a WildLife Sanctuary very recently.
The jungle is not a regular type and is essentially along the Aravali mountain ranges and you may wonder if you will ever get a straight flat road of as much as 10 meters. Its the territory for the 4x4's only. The slops and gradients can be at an incline of as much as 60-65 degree (approx) and it can be quite scary for people with a weak heart.
We could spot a few sambars, neel gai, eagle, woodpecker a few wild hens and a few more birds. But the jungle experience was worth every bit and the drive had its own excitement and trill.
I would say its a must visit, not for the wildlife, but for the overall jungle experience, hopefully over a period wildlife will also be great.

My experience with kumbhalgarh safari have not been great because of varied reasons-
We booked a safari from A one tour & travels and the guy was arrogant,he was not willing to wait for 10 minutes as we have infants and were having meals and he was in hurry to take to safari, since the timings in safari are flexible , we can wait for 10 minutes but since this is money making business only and the safari guy was not willing to wait for 10 minutes. It is clearly evitable that there is no control of govt. Bodies and such private operators have created monopoly by looting people. Even the prices are higher than mrp for products which are sold and which is against the govt. Policies.
We started the safari as per timings and honestly there is nothing to see in the safari. No one have spotted any animals, mostly all the people reviewed that we have spotted nothing, so if you are going to specially to spot someting then you will be disappointment so avoid if you are going specially to cover this aspect.
Prices for safari are on high side as clearly this is more control by private bodies than govt. Authorities. NOT SURE HOW SUCH SAFARI OPERATE SO AVOID AS THIS IS MONEY MAKING BUSINESS ONLY BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE

We did not have time for the wildlife sanctuary, but the fort itself is magnificent. It harbors the second largest wall in the world, of 36 feet.!! It is a sight to watch the great architecture.

Is it safe to walk if not, what is the rate for a gypsy & how can one rent it?
Basant62

You can stay in Udaipur & visit Kubhalgarh Fort & come back the same day. Kubhalgarh is 85 kms from Udai pur & It takes 2 hours to reach. Price for Gypsy would be around INR 2500 from Udaipur & back. You can club attractions of Udaipur & plan one day for Kumbhalgarh from Udaipur. Alternately you can book in one of many Resorts near Kubmhalgarh Fort & Resort will organise Safari which will be cheaper.

At the foot hill of the Kumbhalgarh you will find tea shops/tappris you can ask them they have the sanctuary staff sitting around and they can help as well.

1. How long is the Safari , if i take the safari at 6 AM, will it be done by 7 AM ?
2. The cost of 2500 is per person or per trip on Jeep ( how many visitors at max can travel in the Jeep) ?
VikasSawant
Mumbai, India91 contributions
It will take 2.0 hr with routine trip, if you get friendly with the driving and accompanying staff on the jeep they may take you round more slowly and make it 2.5 hrs or so. If you book the Jeep it will cost you 2500 and up to 6 (4 Adults + 2 kids ) can ride it comfortably.
Can anyone inform me about the advance booking procedure required for the sanctuary ? I wanna book for 28th March

for kumbhalgarh wildlife sanctuary... Advance booking doesnt required . You need to book the safari on the spot. The tickets can be bought in local shops while on the way to Kumbhalgarh fort. It will cost around Rs. 2500 (including vehicle, forest guard and entry fees).
