It’s probably a must do on any itinerary certainly does not require a guide. The boat leaves the ghat at least every 20 mins and it s a relatively serene short slow putt putt along the edge of the lake to the main commercial island. The return journey,no longer requires ticketing and you can just board any returning boat. It’s similar to a Venice boat cruise or a ferry ride across Sydney harbour, you just happen to be in udaipur.

This visit was done in Oct'2019 . This was a 2 day visit to Udaipur from New Delhi . I was accompanied by my kid and wife . If you are staying in Delhi you can reach Udaipur with one night travel by Indian Railways .
Important ::This is a small tourist destination in Rajasthan -India .. The city sleeps soon after sunset ..Hence you need plan your travel accordingly so that you can finish most of your itinerary by afternoon
We reached Udaipur early morning
I got a complimentary stay and food .. Thanks to one of my office friends .. and we were booked for Hotel Udaigarh. It is budget friendly and on the bank of Lake Pichola … The Best part of this Hotel is this is a converted Haveli ( Earlier King's Mansion) and you will really fill the difference .
We got our check in done well advance of time . We had breakfast and went out to explore the city . One important tip - If you are staying in this property , please do not reserve any cab or Auto for Local sightseeing . Evertything is in walkable distance.
The 1st place to visit is Jagdish Temple - It comes within 50 metre from the Property .
After a short visit to the temple you should proceed to City Palace . Purchase your ticket Hire a guide for a significant visit . The tour to city palace will take you at least 2 hours to complete .
Once you are done with city Palace , take a lunch break and then proceed for Boating at Lake Pichola ...Amazing view of the city from middle of the lake
Please reach out for any assistance

We had a private boat ride around the lake, stopping at the Jagmandir Palace island. The regular boats are crowded, and not cheap. There are nice views from the boats, and at sunset you will see tens do thousands of bats leaving their roosts and flying over the lake. Not the best boat experience, but mandatory for an Udaipur visit.

The place is beautiful no doubt with a great view of all the luxurious hotels and all but the boating experience was not a very happy one. Considering one pays Rs 800 for a sunset boating ride, it was very disappointing. The guide we got in the boat behaved as if he was doing us a favor. He did not speak a word and did nothing to familiarize the guests on the boat to anything that we passed by. If anything an effort should have been made to explain the history and USP of the palaces in sight. After a silent boat ride to Jagmandir, we were dropped off and told that we could take a ride back in any boat pick up. We didn’t even know what Jagmandir was, … a temple, a palace or a restaurant. We had to ask what we should do there. Jagmandir itself was just a garden with some accommodation and some kind of cafe. The staff there was not interested either. They were busy cleaning the area with brooms and looked disinterested in everything. One is expected to walk around and visit museums and than enjoy the view from there. We did our rounds and then waited painfully for a boat back.
Our humble request to His Highness to please instruct the staff to be a bit more amenable and tourist oriented in order to justify the excessively high charges for the boat ride, which seemed a waste at the end of the day. Understanding that the royals have to maintain a large bevy of staff for maintenance, why charge tourists so much for a dull journey down the lake. We were five of us and paid up Rs 4000/- for something we remember as unworthy. Wish things would change, considering the polite and hospitality conscious Rajasthani culture. Definitely not worth it. You can view the scenery from the banks of the lake and go back happier.

Most best attractions in Udaipur are around the Pichola Lake area, so you will see it from a few angles. No doubt, it is lovely to have lunch or dinner on one of the countless roof-top restaurants around it ; especially at night, it looks fabulous.
What I advise against, however, is the "must do" boat ride on it. First you are herded like cattle to wait for your boat, then requested to wear a bulky orange life vest for the duration of the ride. Straight to Jagmandir Island "the wedding venue island" . . . why ?! There really is nothing of interest. A waste of a solid hour.
Just enjoy sights from shore and give the boat a miss.

We were at Gangaur ghat on lake Pichhola at Sunset. It was a calm and serene experience watching the birds going home at the end of the day.
Only disturbing thing was the garbage everywhere.
Hope and wish tourists would stop spoiling such beautiful places with plastic and all other kinds of garbage.

Pichola lake is an artificial fresh water lake, and is one of the several lakes in Udaipur. It would not be wrong to say pichola lake as the heart of the city. Most of the luxury properties in Udaipur are in and around the Pichola lake.
There are four small islands on the lake, namely, jag mandir, jag niwas, mohan mandir and arsi vilas. We had a private boat ride for around an hour in the lake and the view of the sunset was beautiful. We also enjoyed the view of the ghats while having the boat ride.
Would recommend a visit in the evening, if you want to enjoy a boat ride.

Lake Pichola is a beautiful spot to get a good view around the lake of the hills and landscape. Yes, it’s quite touristy with boats and photo stalls, it looked busy, but you can just pass by here at the right time of day and take some excellent photos. If you can ignore the many rickshaws, sellers and rubbish all around and just take a photo at sunset it looks glorious. We didn’t fancy the tourist boats, you can also dress up and have photos taken at a fraction of the price of Sahelion ke Bari.

. After a tiring but interesting tour of the City Palace which obviously is a must visit as well, I headed out with my family for a relaxing boat time on Lake Pichola. We opted for the Sunset Boat ride having heard about the mesmerizing views when dusk falls though it is heavier on pocket. After purchasing our tickets and wearing life jackets which by the way is mandatory, we set off around half past 5 for the ride. It’s all about soaking in the moment and the beautiful sights. City Palace being the starting point, it was a different experience watching the palace stand majestically amidst the water and becomes even more charming when the lights turn on in the night.
Jag Mandir is a pit stop for the boat ride. One can get down to spend time at this palace built on an island and is also known as the ‘Lake Garden’ palace. Most of the space is converted into a hotel but the visitors get a chance to enjoy the garden area which is well managed as well as experience the palace band ceremony. Not to forget the beautiful views again from this Island. Some of the other Palace’s were converted over as heritage hotels such as Taj while there are also other brands like the Leela hotels which have setup a beautiful island property for people to stay in.Other famous spots that one can come across on the ride are the ghats. Gangaur Ghat near the Bagore Ki Haveli was clearly a winner.
But what we were mostly looking forward too was the sunset which did not work out. The Sun took its own time to set and perhaps we should have taken the last boat which could have given us that perfect ending to a beautiful day but by the time our ride came to an end, it was still bright, and so were the clouds that kept hiding the sun from us as well.Nevertheless, the entire experience was just wonderful. Take out your camera’s and you will end up capturing some splendid moments

Lake Pichola right at the heart of the city with backdrop of Aravali’s,is a popular attraction in the city. it is surrounded by lush greenery .
Maharana Udai Singh, fascinated by the charm of this lake, with the backdrop of green hills, founded the city of Udaipur on the banks of the lake. Lake is flanked by islands, palaces, temples, mansions, ghats and restaurants,
Best time to visit this lake is evening ,you can enjoy sunset as this time the lake looks even more beautiful.Dont miss the boat ride.

Hi
Didn’t see any on the lake itself or moored at the sides. However, it was winter and fairly chilly.
Possibly, they are there in warmer seasons.
Thinking about it, apart from the larger tourist boats, I didn’t see any small craft, leisure or otherwise.
Camels, etc available for hire for rides along sections of the shore.
Udaipur’s wonderful! Do enjoy.
Best Regards.

No pedal boating is allowed in lake pichola. There are 2 kinds of boat one is general where there is seating capacity is 20/30 and another category is luxurious where you get cushion seats like sofa and having 8/10 seater or even you can hire the whole boat.
If you enjoy speed boating then you can try at fathe sagar lake

Planning to visit Udaipur with my wife in mid October for 4 days. Please advise what should be the best possible itinerary and cover most of the spots in a economical way (local transportation cost etc.). Can Chittorgarh be covered? is any help for local sightseeing by RTDC?

Hire taxi for full day will cost you Rs.1400/- in 5-6 hrs you can visit all the local famous spots of Udaipur ,next day again hire taxi that will cover 3 places out of Udaipur.Keep in mind that on first day reach city palace by 11 AM than go for boating in Pichhola lake before 2 PM after 4 PM the ticket of boat is charged Rs.800/- per head ,the food/drinks at island during boating is too costly lassi costs Rs.200/- beer 400/- ,so better have lunch in Udaipur city before or after boating not even even in restaurant in city palace.
