    Beautiful
Lake Pichola, Udaipur is an artificial lake. Situated adjacent to City Palace, the lake has beautiful surroundings and attractions for tourists. The lake houses famous Taj Lake Palace hotel and islands like Jag Mandir and Jag Niwas within the lake. Post visit of City Palace, we had gone for an afternoon boat ride @ Rs. 500 per pax, however at evening the rate increases. The boat ride was enjoyable under cool breeze, it took us through the lake and by the side of hotels, ghats, etc. and dropped at Jag Mandir and return. One may spend sufficient time at Jag Mandir Island, but the place doesn’t offer anything of special interest, barring few restaurants. In short, a visit and boat ride at Lake Pichola is a must do activity at Udaipur.

Lake Pichola, the symbol of Udaipur
Lake Pichola is the largest lake in Udaipur, the City of Lakes. What is amazing is that the lakes in Udaipur were man made fresh water lakes. These lakes were built as a network with the overflow from one flowing into another. These lakes provide the fresh water to the city. Lake Pichola is surrounded by hotels, palaces and large havelis with the City Palace, the residence of the former royal family taking pride of place - they still reside there. At the middle of the lake is the Lake Palace that has been a luxury (very pricey) hotel run by Taj Hotels for the past 60+ years. The other landmark on the lake is the Jag Mandir Palace, once a royal temple, that is now a venue for weddings and other events. The best way to get get a tour of the lake is a boat ride from the City Palace. The ride takes you around the lake to the Jag Mandir Palace and then brings you back to the starting point. A trip worth taking. You can’t visit Udaipur without seeing Lake Pichola & taking the ride.

    Great experience
Amazing views and memorable experience. The boat ride and ropeway ride are just good to enjoy. There are many activities on top after reaching the top with ropeway. Like aquarium visit, virtual games, restaurants, massage therapy, fish foot spa, fire pan, chat cone etc. There is also a photo service with Traditional costume. There is Karnimata temple and a Dargah up there. The view from the cable car cabin is quite nice. Ride is for 4 to 5 minutes. As only 3 cabins move up and down there may be a waiting time for 30 minutes on rush days. Boat ride takes you to Jagmandir. We felt these were a must feel experience when in Udaipur. We visited the place just a day before a bollywood actresses wedding but there was no problem at all.

"Just beautiful! So relaxing and breathtaking. Would love to come here in the summer and take the ferries to other towns
Very good experience..Good environment for couples. Some descriptive words for the beach could be: sandy, sunny, salty, breezy, peaceful, relaxing, refreshing, beautiful, picturesque, tranquil, and serene. There are black, volcanic beaches and beaches of almost pure white sand; there are coral beaches. Beaches can be smooth and sandy or rough and pebbly.

Quiet view of the city's history from the boat
Udaipur is the city of seven lakes and Lake Pichola is the most famous of all. It is on its banks that the city's equally famous palace is built. So when you go on a boat ride in the lake, you get to see the palaces and other structures (now converted into hotels or restaurents) from the other side. Its a quiet and serene boat ride which takes you around and then to Jagat Mandir, which is the royal family's party getaway. There is a small temple too but mostly it is a landmass in the middle of the lake built to serve as a picturesque venue for functions and parties of the royal family. There are several small eateries/ cafes here and an ultra expensive bar too, which is basically meant to entice you to feel like royalty by spending like one.

    worth the time
if you're in Udaipur and the weather is nice, this is a lovely way to spend an hour or so...on a rather crowded boat. We had a great experience seeing some of the main sites of Udaipur from the lake. Half of our time was spent at the cafe on the island (not the Lake Palace) drinking coffee waiting for a return boat to the shore

Magnificent Lake in the City of Lakes
Lake Pichola is the heart of Udaipur - the most famous and magnificent lake in Udaipur. We took a boat ride from the City Palace, as it takes you to Jag Mandir (an island on the lake) and back. Tickets are bit expensive (800/perhead) but the price is worth it. However, we had to wait in the queue for over an hour as it was evening time and peak tourist season. When you are in Udaipur, do not miss this boat ride.

Lake Pichola is a beautiful spot to get a good view around the lake of the hills and landscape. Yes, it’s quite touristy with boats and photo stalls, it looked busy, but you can just pass by here at the right time of day and take some excellent photos. If you can ignore the many rickshaws, sellers and rubbish all around and just take a photo at sunset it looks glorious. We didn’t fancy the tourist boats, you can also dress up and have photos taken at a fraction of the price of Sahelion ke Bari.

Limpid and large, Lake Pichola reflects the cool grey-blue mountains on its rippling mirror-like surface. Located in the heart of the city, Pichola Lake is the oldest and one of the largest lakes of Udaipur. Pichola Lake is enveloped by lofty Palaces, temples, bathing ghats and elevated hills on all its sides. At the time of sunset, a boat ride in this lake is sufficient to enthrall anyone. This lake is, indeed, amongst the top beautiful places in India.

The place is beautiful no doubt with a great view of all the luxurious hotels and all but the boating experience was not a very happy one. Considering one pays Rs 800 for a sunset boating ride, it was very disappointing. The guide we got in the boat behaved as if he was doing us a favor. He did not speak a word and did nothing to familiarize the guests on the boat to anything that we passed by. If anything an effort should have been made to explain the history and USP of the palaces in sight. After a silent boat ride to Jagmandir, we were dropped off and told that we could take a ride back in any boat pick up. We didn’t even know what Jagmandir was, … a temple, a palace or a restaurant. We had to ask what we should do there. Jagmandir itself was just a garden with some accommodation and some kind of cafe. The staff there was not interested either. They were busy cleaning the area with brooms and looked disinterested in everything. One is expected to walk around and visit museums and than enjoy the view from there. We did our rounds and then waited painfully for a boat back.
Our humble request to His Highness to please instruct the staff to be a bit more amenable and tourist oriented in order to justify the excessively high charges for the boat ride, which seemed a waste at the end of the day. Understanding that the royals have to maintain a large bevy of staff for maintenance, why charge tourists so much for a dull journey down the lake. We were five of us and paid up Rs 4000/- for something we remember as unworthy. Wish things would change, considering the polite and hospitality conscious Rajasthani culture. Definitely not worth it. You can view the scenery from the banks of the lake and go back happier.

Lake Pichola is beautiful from the shore and after the September monsoon the water level is high. The water is 95ft above the level of the Sukadihya garden and it provides the water pressure for the fountains.

You can get a boat from both ends of the Palace. To the North end near the Dharohar folk dance theatre the ferry just does a trip around the lake for 25 mins. If you go from South end near Shriv temple, then the ferry goes around the lake but you can get off at the Jagmandir Hotel on the island and have a walk around the gardens. Then go back on the next ferry.

Ferries leave from 10.00 on the hour, and you should sit on the RHS to get the best view. Tickets cost Rs500 before 14.00 and Rs800 after that. Worth doing!

Most of the places around are facing Lake Pichola and it’s a gorgeous view altogether. Cruising along the lake would also be gorgeous and the sun set over the lake is a view you should catch at least once on your trip. Lake Pichola is one of the most beautiful tourist attractions in the city.

One boat ride will give you a lot of scenic beauty. We opted for a group boat ride. The only point to remember is - be first in queue or wait for the next ride to get the best seat. The boat covers many historic points and fully worth to the price paid. The only thing I did not like was the "Maggi @ Rs 50" lol. Take a lot of pics and keep a close eye on the kids.

Many of us don't take the life jacket seriously, I think we all should wear it to keep us safe. And last thing, after this ride, you can visit ropeway experience available other side of the boating. We paid Rs 50 for the entire Auto. Happy travelling.

We went to Udaipur precisely to be on this lake and enjoy its beauty at different times of the day. Totally worth it. We took the sunset boat cruise on Lake Pichola from the City Palace grounds and it was truly breathtaking with the views changing through the course of the cruise.

The lake has a great sunset view in the evening. It is a paradise for the photographers and you can see all of them there. Though, lake can be visited from many sides. There are restaurants available near the lake sides offering food and beverage. Other facilities like boat rides etc are also available.

We visited Agra,Jaipur,Udaipur,Delhi with my family (wife and 2 kids) in Christmas 2019 holidays and so visited this attraction during our stay in Udaipur.

Lake Pichola is so clean and the boat ride is very memorable though it was expensive.
