- Rik Raeymaekers3 contributionsExcellentWe took this cooking class knowing so little about the indian cuisine. But Shashi is such a good teacher and together another couple we teamed up and completed the task. The food was so good, and you get to make it all by yourself! Everything is explained so wel and she really takes the time show you how it's done. I would definitely recommend taking her cooking class!Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 3, 2023
- Amber11 contributionsMust do in udaipur! We had this cooking class from shashi and we thought it was amazing! You really get to know the basics of the indian cuisine not only by watching but by practising it yourself. We really felt welcomed by her and her family. The cooking class takes around 4h but the time went by so quickly and the food was defintely the best we had so far on our india trip! If you are in udaipur and you want to learn and experience the indian cuisine this class is someyhing you should do for sure! We would totally recommend this!Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 3, 2023
- Tob1021 contributionsWonderful and practical cookery class!Kindly arranged a tuk-tuk to her new location at Shashi’s house. Warm welcome and then a briefing on the evening ahead. We learnt pakoras, chutneys, naan, chapatis, paneer masala, saag aloo and more. All hands on ourselves and great fun. Recipe notes are included to take away. Don’t miss the opportunity with such wonderful hosts when in Udaipur!Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 7, 2023
- katharine8405 contributionsA fabulous experienceWe have just had the most amazing experience at Shashi's cookery class tonight. She taught us to cook so many different amazing dishes. It was a lovely relaxed atmosphere in the family kitchen which was spotlessly clean and organized. Make sure you arrive very hungry because there is a lot of food to eat at the end. A truly magical experience. Would highly recommend, very good value for money.Visited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten October 14, 2023
- TerrenceLeeds, United Kingdom9 contributionsAmazing! This cooking class was so amazing. Sashi is very lovely and interesting, plus a great cook with many tips. We were made to feel very comfortable and everything was tailored to what we like/don’t. It was a great laugh, and the food we cooked was delicious. You are given your own recipe file to make notes on and keep the recipes we made which is great. 10/10 would recommend!Visited October 2023Traveled with friendsWritten November 7, 2023
- John M4 contributionsFabulous Food and Lots of Fun!Highly recommend Shashi's cooking class! A nice mix of demonstrating, explaining and doing. Shashi is lovely and really funny. She shared her life story with us which is really interesting, and her whole family got involved - it was nice to be able to ask them questions, not just about food but about life in India. Best of all though, the food is outstanding - probably the best meal we've had in India, and we haven't had a bad one!! Tip, message via WhatsApp and pay cash rather than booking online.Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 28, 2023

We cooked loads of delicious food and had a great time with her and her family. I would highly recommend this class to anyone - best thing we have done in Udaipur!Visited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 4, 2023
- Ed M10 contributionsA great quick class! We contacted Shashi on What’s App the day before and she had an opening. Just the two of us in the class. We had such a good time and enjoyed the fruits of our efforts. It was fun watching her family members come and go while we cooked, following her clear direction. We are back home now and have made several of the dishes from the class and the small cook she sells, and the results are amazingly delicious. We are upping our spice game, thanks to Shashi. Thanks for a great quick introduction to preparing wonderful food.Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 5, 2023
- Jerome BFouras, France18 contributionsOutstandingThe Shashi Cooking class was outstanding. Not a minute was lost, everything was carefully planned and explained. It was hands on for the entire session. Shashi encouraged me throughout. I felt it was a privilege to meet her and to develop my cooking skills. She is a very special person.Visited November 2023Traveled soloWritten December 9, 2023
- Vaneeta M5 contributionsDelicious traditional cooking with ShashiWe just had the most amazing time cooking with Shashi and her family. Her home is situated on a quiet street in Udaipur which is easy to walk to. She greeted us with a little history on how she came to give cooking classes and made us feel part of her family. She has printed recipes which are comprehensive and easy to follow. She and her family went through the recipes with us before helping and supervising us while we cooked. We then were able to eat a feast. The venue is clean and bright. The ingredients were fresh, just bought from the market and the cooking was really a lot of fun. Both our teenage kids also enjoyed the experience. The resulting food was scrumptious. She really is a wonderful cook and teacher and a strong Indian woman who has succeeded after great hardship. A really wonderful experience.Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten December 18, 2023

In all honesty, this was not only a unique experience and one of the highlights our trip in India but we ate THE BEST food of all our trip...even better than the five star restaurants we tried.
We will never forget this experience as we not only enjoyed learning the cooking but meeting Shashi and her family. Shashi has the most impressionable personal story; having been widowed early with two young sons and struggling financially, she had to find work by cleaning but a chance meeting with someone who she invited to eat with her family led to her starting a cooking school...because her food was so delicious.
If you want to have an authentic experience of cooking and culture while in Udaipur then leave the tourist trail for four hours, learn to cook the food that you will eat and soak up the cultural experience of meeting a truly exceptional Indian woman.

I just did my cooking class tonight and I am extremely satisfied. We got to make a large variety of dishes, more than the other classes I looked into. This class should be on every foodie's to do list because it shows you the start to finish of traditional Indian dishes in its most authentic form. Shashi and her sons even taught us some family specialties so you get to make/taste really unique flavors on the foundational dishes. It's worth all of the 1500 rupees. I think they should charge more tbh.
I also want to point out how much effort goes into establishing this course and the stamina required for them to do 10 hours of teaching per day and that's not even counting the hours of collecting the ingredients and preparation. Shashi could barely walk but she had more energy to knead the doughs than the rest of us. This woman really poured every ounce of her energy into making sure we enjoyed our meal.
I'm amazed they were able to fit so much into 5 hours per session. The entire program was seamless. Thank you for having me. I will never forget this experience and I have a much deeper appreciation for Indian cuisine now.

Amazing cooking experience! We cooked Chai, 2 curries, chapati, chutneys, and desert. All of the food was amazing, especially the cheese and tomatoe naan! The whole family are very kind, welcoming and friendly. When we walked in they gave us beautiful bracelets and talked to us about their culture. We got to eat pakora, chai, curries, naans and chapatis. Their house and kitchen is beautiful, clean and very homely. You get to cook yourself and also watch them. They give you lots of tips and have a booklet with the recipes and steps for you to take home. They picked us up and dropped us off at our hostel and we did the 10.30am - 2.30pm experience, they also do a 5.30pm - 9.30pm experience too. They offer a mixture of spices and cook books to buy at the end, which are cheaper than in the market. It was a fantastic experience that we will remember for a long time. Would definitely recommend to anyone staying in Udaipur! Thank you so much ❤️

We always wanted to do a cooking class in India, and are very glad we chose Shashi’s.
We very much enjoyed meeting her, learning about her life, and learning how to make some Indian dishes.
The food and recipes we made as part of the class were fantastic - and the recipe you receive as part of the ticket price promises to be very helpful in the future.
The class of 7 people was a great size - not too large.
At the conclusion of the class we were given an opportunity to buy some of the spices used, including home made amchur and lemon salt (difficult to buy back home) - the prices for the spices were very good; very cheap compared to our home country.
Definitely recommend this experiences to others.

We had an amazing cooking class with Shashi and her family. They welcomed us like if we were home and they all thought us something which was really nice. My boyfriend and I were the only ones that night so it was a really nice private class in which we got to participate a lot (I believe they try to limit the groups to 5-6 max in the event of higher demand, but they have the space for it !). We got to roll dough, crush spices, garlic and ginger using the mortal and pestal and cook the curries and the breads. Shashi and her family thought us a lot of things about Indian cuisine, especially how they do it at home versus what we get to eat in restaurants here, as well as many things about India in general. They provided great tips ans tricks to make sure you get the most out of the food. We of course ate everything we cooked (arrive with an empty stomach). We highly recommend doing your cooking class (if you are considering doing one) with them. You will leave with so many recipes as well as new knowledge. Now we can’t wait to cook for our families and friends.

We had an excellent evening learning to cook delicious dishes in Shashi's class. This truly is a family run experience with both Shashi's sons helping out in the classes and giving tips! The food was so delicious and we can't wait to make some for our friends and family when we get home. Do not eat before coming because you make so many different dishes that there is so much food to eat at the end and you will be very very full!

This class was the highlight of our 2 months in India. Shashi and her family kindly welcomed us into their home and went far beyond just teaching us how to make many tasty dishes. We spent over four hours cooking, talking and eating with Shashi, her son, daughter-in-law and adorable granddaughter. We were given a detailed recipe book and taught the skills to make all the dishes with tips about how to make them back home too. This class has you making everything from scratch, including some spice blends. She even had spices prepared that would be hard to find in Canada that we could take home for incredibly reasonable prices. They have a new location a little off the beaten path, but it is totally worth going for an authentic, home cooking experience. The food was delicious and plentiful (make sure to come VERY hungry). Excellent value for your money. Thank you to Shashi and her family for such a genuine, heartwarming evening.

Excellent half day Shashi and her sons gave us a remarkable insight into Rajasthani cooking. The dishes she helped us to prepare were delicious. We hope to be able to produce them at home

Fantastic, welcoming experience. This is a hands on experience with an extremely knowledgeable host. She explained, demonstrated, coached, joked, entertained encouraged and somehow guided us into creating a wide range of Indian foods which we then ate. This was all in her own house, not a commercial kitchen. If you want to experience a real Indian cooking class, this is it. We enjoyed every minute and the food was incredible. A must do experience in Udaipur

Hi, I did this amazing cooking class with Shashi a couple of months ago, but now I am back in the UK and can't find oregano seeds ANYWHERE! Does anyone know what else they might be called?
Written May 28, 2017
Hi Maddie,
We bought some back home to Australia with us after doing the class with Shashi in January!
Otherwise I haven't found a source, when we need some more I might try emailing Shashi and see if she will post some? You could try that perhaps, the packets were sealed and OK for customs here so probably OK for the UK?
Good luck!

Thank you
