- markg10101Worthing, United Kingdom204 contributionsThe search makes the sighting even more special.Great fun being driven around beautiful rugged countryside at what sometimes feels like rally car speed. Keeping Eyes peeled for any sign of Tigers. The guides vary, but if you get a good one (like Pankaj) he will explain the life of the animals and work hard to find the Tigers. We went on three safaris in two days and saw one Tiger. The fun of the chase and the reward of actually seeing one of the most beautiful animals in its habitat. If you can book a Jeep safari (not a cantor) when you find a tiger the people on the cantors struggled to see past the ones at the front, while in a jeep there is a max of 6 guests so viewing is better.Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 9, 2023
- NinasunloverLondon, United Kingdom892 contributionsA tale of two halvesWe had two safari drives in the morning and afternoon. Our family were unfortunately split with 2 people in one canter going to zone 4 in the morning and 1 person in another going to zone 1. Zone 4 we saw nothing but deer and birds it was a very disappointing 3 hours especially knowing that my mum would be seeing something in zone 1 as she's very lucky...we found out on our return she saw a tiger, cub and 2 leopards!! In the afternoon we were together thankfully and visited zone 3 with great luck a tiger and her 3 cubs!! We were ecstatic after a miserable morning for two of us. It really is all about luck on the day as each tiger has it's own territory and I think zone 4 only had 1 male tiger and another crossing zones 4/5 to find that in 20km is impossible as we found out. Zones 1 and 3 were lucky for us. We saw loads of big crocodiles in the afternoon too and a mongoose as well as monkeys both trips. The drivers are maniacs and the canters are awfully uncomfortable bouncing along the tracks but it was worth it to see such beautiful animals in the wild.Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 31, 2024
- Helenbar12 contributionsTigers tigersExcellent group tour . The guide was excellent. . It gets very hectic. The first route is n the morning just in one zone where there are various species of wildlife . The 2nd trip mid afternoon was where you visited another zone where mainly the tiger is spotted. Long afternoon in very hot sun and open top safari vehicles so make sure you have plenty of water, hat sunscreen and as it is very dusty on route a mask or Face covering Saw 8 tigers in total that was a very lucky dayVisited April 2024Traveled soloWritten April 27, 2024

We went on 4 safari's and saw no tigers. We did see other animals so it is more a nature reserve. The jeeps can only enter after sunrise and exit before sunset which makes it difficult to see nocturnal animals such as tigers. You can't pick who takes you and we had one man who parked the jeep most of the time. He took us to gate 20 minutes before time was up and gate was closed. They drove the jeep about a kilometer away and waited for the time to elapse and then drove us back to respect hotels. Would recommend a different park

We visited the national park in the month of April. As expected it was fairly hot. We had two safaris, one in the afternoon and one next morning. Unfortunately, we could not sight any tiger. However, the probability of sighting tiger in ranthambore forest is fairly high, as it is not a dense forest. Would recommend everyone to go for a early morning safari, as afternoon safari commences around 3 pm and it is fairly hot around that time.

I really don't think I need to add much about this world famous park. The only few words I wish to say are
1) definitely prebook your safari tickets online
2) please don't be fixed on the idea of seeing the tiger. Look around and there are lots of beautiful animals, birds and trees too
3) the reason I wrote this is because I really think the obsession of visitors to see the tiger means that drivers and guides keep chasing the great cat like crazy. Often this means you don't get to look around much while the vehicle you are in keeps flying from one point to another
4) definitely select a gypsy if possible but, Cantors are great too
5) all zones from 2-5 are great for seeing the tiger. Remember the zones have been created by us not the tigers. So the tiger someone saw in zone 3 in the morning may be in zone 4 by evening!
It is a beautiful forest. Do enjoy your time. Great if you get to see the tiger but, trust me even if you don't, it is still a wonderful experience

We had an amazing trip with excellent guide Yajwendra Singh (+91 80059 47433 ) who is excellent knowledgeable naturalist with incredible knowledge and fluently speaks English. His driver Mohan was also English speaking. The team was terrific with 3 separate tiger sightings out of 6 trips but more important they have us incredible knowledge of flora, fauna, wild life, birds , terraine etc the whole 9 yards.
His knowledge of botany was superb and impeccable history of the first going back to thousands of years. I works definitely come back and tour with these duo.

The reserve is gorgeous and extremely photogenic, but there are only 70 Tigers in a very large area and we did not see any on our 3 safari trips. There were many Deer, Owls, Crocodiles, Wild Boar, Peacocks and we were told Leopards. Some of the tree specimens are truly amazing. There are cameras set up to monitor the Tigers, but there is no visitor centre on the site, which is a pity, as if you fail to see the animals in person, it would have been nice to see the shots of them in the their natural habitat. There are toilets in the reserve, but they were far from good. If you are booking a safari, double check what vehicle you will be travelling in. There are Jeeps or trucks, the trucks take 20+ people. Despite specifying we wanted a jeep just for our party, we had 2 other people each time, sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't...

I had a planned a visit to Ranthambore and after much consultation and deliberation finally booked in December for end of January. But Omicron struck and had to cancel the trip. Rebooking was made for trip at end February.
And had a pretty disappointing trip at the famous Ranthambore national park. Thanks to Mr Vivek Singh working on behalf of Exclusive Holidays Jaipur ( incidentally who conveniently forgot warn us that zones 1 through 5 he could not arrange despite taking his professional fees) all three rounds were failure to locate any interesting wild life except one fleeting view of Hyena.
Personally I believe the way arrangement for national park wild life safari trips are arranged is a shame. Any other sphere it will be called a scam. Consider this 80% of park is closed to visitors. 20% is divided into zones, typically a park round in a zone will be 15 kms equivalents to a tigers territory . Charges at Ranthambore are exorbitantly high. More so if you look for "Tatkal" booking which charge you 10,000 rupees extra. A full day safari will set back by 60,000 rupees.
This is not to say you can't enjoy Ranthambore.
First make sure you have bookings for the zones one through five.
Avoid booking agents like Vivek Singh/ Exclusive holidays who are not transparent.

The park is divided into zones and only a limited number of vehicles are allowed into each zone. We were in zone 3. There are several lakes in this zone and you can see the occasional shikar building which were used till the early days after independence. Abandoned now.
One can see some deer ( sambar and chital), lots of peafowl, herons and cormorants and crocodiles.
The Canter is a bit of a bone shaker and one is hoping that the spinal discs will remain in place.
Suddenly one can see a number of vehicles gathered. There is the tiger! At first a mere shadow, well camouflaged by the grass. Patience pays off. Riddhi gets up and moves across in full view with her three cubs in tow!
A word of caution: one needs a bit of luck to spot a tiger. In the dry season, chances are somewhat better because the tigers come near the water. This is also the hottest season (I went in April and it’s very hot). Other methods to increase your chances are to go several times.

Gypsies are booked well in advance, we had to opt for Canter Safari. Different experience though a bit dusty. Our guide showed us fresh Tiger pug marks, but no live sighting.

Our safari reservation made by a local agency was messed up and there was no vehicle for us. We had to have our driver take us to the main road where we watched 15 safari vehicles that were not filled pass us by until we finally ended up with a vehicle that picked us up. So we lost precious time. Do not believe these photos. You have a minuscule chance of seeing any tigers. It is dependent on pure luck and we accept that. What we do not accept is that after we arrived at the lodge with a long drive from Jaipur we were rushed through lunch, had to wait for a vehicle and then were driven an hour and a half over horrible bumpy roads to enter the park at the furthest possible point. Our guide spoke almost no English and gave the entire tour in Hindi to the family sharing our vehicle. Fortunately the father spoke excellent English and did some translating for us. But it didn’t matter. There was absolutely nothing to see except a few deer and birds and the guide offered no explanations about the park. Again we accept that a safari is not a zoo and that what you see is never guaranteed but we spent an hour driving around the park and then another hour and a half to get back to the lodge. The next morning we woke up at 5 am to have a repeat drive. Back to the second furthest entrance and again a guide who barely spoke. The whole experience was absolute BS. I give a poor rather than a terrible rating because the staff at the Tigress Lodge were very nice and the food was decent. The room however was musty and we had to wash everything in our suitcases several times to get rid of the smell.

How about the sightings in zone 6? Can I book the zone for last week of March 2020?
Written March 4, 2020
Zone 6 was our first safari. It was in the evening and not many sightings. The next day zone 2 and 3 were much better, loads to see. Hope you enjoy as much as we did. Pam
