The original entrance, one of 7, it has iron spikes to protect against enemy elephants.
Notice the hand prints inside the gate.

`Loha Pol' literally means the iron gate. The Loha Pol is an
important part of the Mehrangarh fort, and before the outer `Jai
Pol' was constructed, this was possibly the main entrance to the
impressive fort structure. This part starts from the Rao Jodha ka Falsa'
inscription on the walls, and proceeds to the well-preserved iron
gate (which also has the prickly large iron pins to ward off an
attack by elephants: which also accounts for the right angled
location, so that an elephant would not be able to get much
momentum to come in and burst the gate open). The part also has an
area where musicians sit, and play soothing welcome music, using
traditional musical instruments. Beyond the gate is an old jar of
the olden times, used to possibly store grain.

its one of the main seven gates of the fort and this one is important as this gate is the direct entrance of the palace of the king and queens and its heavily guarded gate at that time.

As Meherangarh Fort was the residence of the erstwhile rulers of Jodhpur state, it required highest degree of security. The fort had seven entrances, the Loha Pol or the iron gate was the fourth / main entrance of the fort. Loha Pol is the strongest gate and designed thoughtfully with sharp metal spikes so that enemy elephants could not break and enter inside the fort easily.

We passed these two gates on our way out of the fortress after our wonderful tour, Fatehpol being the outer one with full ‘elephant protection’ on the door. The latter like Jai Pol was built to commemorate another famous victory, this time against the Mughals. As with the rest of the fortress, the construction is very impressive.

The pic shown here is that of Rao Jodha ji ka Falsa, which is nothing but two holes in the wall, which served as a receptacle of the barrier and is the only old sign left pertaining to Rao Jodha's time. However, Loha pole is a bit ahead and is an iron gate made to protect the palaces

Huge historic fort boasting impressive architecture and royal residence. This is a tourist attraction that draws a big crowd. the exact opposite of an Indiana Jones experience but worthy of a tour. I paid the equivalent of around 10 $ US if you hand over ID card you get complimentary audio tour guide which is very good. This price included my camera pass.
