- Freya E2 contributionsOne of my favourite days in India!!! I would deffinitly recommend doing an art class here if you're seeking a relaxing and rewarding day. Lentil Man (who can paint an elephant on a lentil) is just so so kind and his son Tinka is a really great teacher and soul. We drank chai and sat for hours painting in their beautiful art school. Thanks for a lovely day :))Visited September 2024Traveled with friendsWritten September 13, 2024
- Ed BLondon, United Kingdom3 contributionsAmazing time with Vijay!! We did a lovely painting class which took 2-3 hour, using traditional Marwar painting techniques ,& natural paints. Great chats over chai too!! He even did his world famous lentil artwork for us at the end. Would 10/10 recommend - such a unique experience :))Visited October 2024Traveled with friendsWritten October 14, 2024
- dinalefAngers, France2 contributionsWe had a great time with this artist, nicknamed "lentil man" because he is known for painting on lenses cut in half. His demonstration is impressive! But his works and those of the students of the art school in which he teaches are mostly found in his shop. We are all divided with a work and enjoyed chatting with him. An excellent memory!Visited August 2024Traveled with friendsWritten August 16, 2024
- Tourist111768027034 contributionsVijay the “lentil man” is a very talented artist and patient teacher! I got to learn the technique of miniature painting and he also demonstrated his painting on a lentil for less than a minute. I highly recommend this one of a kind experience!!!Visited February 2025Traveled as a coupleWritten March 1, 2025
- Charlie B7 contributionsI took an art class with ‘lentil man’ and had an amazing experience. I drew a camel using traditional Rajasthani techniques and received lots of help from Mr Vijay. I also bought an incredible piece of artwork on display and learnt about the process of creating in Rajasthan. Overall I would highly recommend visiting!Visited December 2024Traveled soloWritten December 19, 2024
- Paco H18 contributionsVijay Prajapat is a very talented, amicable snd honest master artist that loves his trade. Lovely experience. Learned about the art, the trade and history of the school. A big diversity of pieces to choose from ( nature, devas, rajputs, etc.). Fair prices . Great location.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 24, 2024
- TCMirBreskens, The Netherlands9 contributionsNever thought, but I am just able to draw and paint a camel. How incredible is that. With a lot of patience and good explanations from the owner. From a blank paper in 3 to 4 hours to a camel that looks like the art in the store. Super friendly owner who offered us delicious masala chai and even lunch. If you are in Jodhpur, definitely drop in, but better yet do a workshop.Visited April 2024Traveled with friendsWritten April 20, 2024

I highly recommend Umaid Heritage Art School for anyone interested in art or looking to share a creative experience.
We stumbled upon the school and had a delightful conversation with Vijay, so we decided to return the next day for a miniature painting workshop.
We spent hours with Vijay, learning miniature painting techniques while exchanging captivating stories about art, culture, and life. Vijay's exceptional skills as an artist, combined with his teaching ability and storytelling talent, made the experience both educational and enjoyable.
As a result, we left with our own miniature creations and a newfound appreciation for art. Our visit to Umaid Heritage Art School was undeniably a highlight of our stay in Jodhpur.
Don't miss the opportunity to explore your artistic side and learn from the talented Vijay.

We spent a fabulous afternoon at this lovely place. Tinku, Vijay and Pushkar were so generous with their time and expertise.
In three hours we had all painted masterpieces 😄.
Highly recommend, and there was no pressure to buy other pieces, although they were extremely beautiful and well priced.
Also, they support female students from neighboring villages who aren’t allowed to leave the house to work - they teach them to paint and sell their work here.
What a gem this place is!
I am looking forward to coming back.

Checking out Umaid Heritage Art School and its comprehensive and beautiful library of Rajasthani miniature works was a fascinating experience. Interaction with Mr Vijay Prajapat on two separate days made my Jodhpur trip extra special and unforgettable. The free art lesson he offered over a span of 2 hrs along with seeking knowledge about various facets of miniature paintings was awesome. I wish Mr Vijay's mission all the success.

Amazing! One of the most wonderful Art experiences of my lifetime. Sometimes while traveling the universe aligns and blesses you with the chance to see one of the most beautiful things offered. We were wandering the clock tower market and didn’t expect to find a souvenir that will be the centerpiece to remember our trip to India! Don’t miss this while I’m Jodpur, we rode camels we rode elephants but seeing the “Lentil Man” do his thing in person was once in a lifetime!

Stumbled upon this small shop/art school when we wondered around in the city and got greeted warmly by Vijay aka Lentil Man. He proudly showed us his skills in miniature drawing on a lentil (hence his nickname). It was really impressive and it got us talking more about their art school, the skills of miniature painting and much more! Such a genuine talk and welcoming environment! I really recommend dropping by if you are into art!

I was blown away by the wonderful morning I spent with Mr Vijay Prajapat, aka Lentil Man. I spent several hours learning all about the technique of Indian miniature painting and Vijay guided me through creating my own small piece. He is a clear and patient teacher and a fantastic artist. You only need to look up Lentil Man Jodhpur to find videos and photos of his work. His work is also for sale and adjoining the studio he has beautiful jewellery for sale too. I highly recommend this experience with Vijay at Umaid Heritage Art School, Jodhpur.

This was suitable for a complete beginner and an experienced painter. Did it with my sister and we both completed traditional miniature paintings. The lesson was with the owner’s son who was very patient. The lesson was 3-4 hours and we built the paintings up in stages. It was very interesting.
Since Covid they now charge £10 per person. It was just the 2 of us. We went to the shop and agreed a time to come back for the lesson so it was easy to arrange.

Brilliant, Absolutely fabulous artwork, Vijay is such a nice man, he gave me a tour of the gallery showing me the art work that himself and the students had done.
Pinto, one of his students of over 10 years also gave an overview of his work.
Vijay invited me back to the gallery for lunch later in the week, along with his son, and pinto, at no time was I pressured into buying anything, infarct it was just the opposite, he gave my wife a lovely piece of work from his earlier years, I did in fact but 3 pieces of work, consisting of 3 peacocks done some 10 years ago, as a gift for my daughter.
Here is the gift he gave me to take back to the UK for my wife, I get a message from Vijay every week since my return, if anything I will remember the warm reception from Vijay and the family, if you have time, spend a few hours here, I stayed the whole day in conversation with Vijay and Pinto.

What a special place! Beautiful, exquisite paintings and no matter your budget, you will be able to find one (or more) that you can afford
to buy, and know you are supporting the local community. And what a wonderful thing to run a school and a business together.
We enjoyed the company of Vijay and Pimtu who were both very hospitable and kind. We returned a number of times to see them and were warmly welcomed every time. Thank you so much, Vijay and Pimtu.

I had a great experience meeting Vijay , Pintu and Tinku who were all very kind ,humble and helpful. Vijay takes time with you to teach you all you need to know to create a piece of art work that you can bring home with you as a memory of Rajhastan. Also you can admire the Art work in the school and are under no obligation to purchase and there is no pressure to do so. Any paintings that you may purchase 70 percent of money goes to the artist and 30 present goes to the school. You can sit in the shade and relax while painting and you are given as much time as you need. A lovely way to relax and be creative with the support of Vijay Pinto and Tinku.

I visited on September 1st and there was a morning (10am) and an afternoon class (4pm) although very flexible. We spent nearly 3 hours but depending on detail of your work it could easily take less.
