- Sandy_JSRJamshedpur, India2,125 contributionsWell Maintained War MuseumSet up by the Indian Army, the historical Jaisalmer war museum is situated at the entry point of Jaisalmer city. The museum displays the evolution of the Indian Army and its inspiring contribution to the Nation and pays tribute to the brave soldiers. The museum displays well-curated war exhibits like tank and fighter planes. One can take photo with the background of these exhibits. There is café available at site that sells cold drinks, Maggie etc. The entire complex is well maintained. Overall it was proud moment to visit the War museum.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten May 17, 2024

- Twarita D10 contributionsJaisalmer - Khamma GhaniWonderful road trip with friends. The roads made the trip more enjoyable. Majority of the roads were good without any bumps. Jaisalmer, The Golden City was lovely. Yellow sandstone structures are everywhere. The intricate artistry keeps one awed. Beautiful! Gives us a peek into the rich heritage of India. We stayed at the Club Mahindra Resort that was an experience in itself. If possible do try and stay there for the wonderful stay and hospitality. Jaisalmer Fort, Kuldhara the abandoned village, Bada Baug, Patwon Kothari Haveli, Gadisar Lake, all worth a visit. Visiting the Jaisalmer War Museum was an experience in itself. As lights go off after 7pm and The Sound and Light Show lights up the screen through the pitch darkness, the Indo-Pak war of 1971 comes alive to heighten patriotic emotions. A good effort barring a few hiccups with the audio system. The Souvenir Shop there offers reasonably priced products to take back home or for gifting and the canteen has some good snacks too. We booked our Desert Safari through the Club manager for safety. Seems some outlets do not deliver what they promise. Sunset at the Sand Dunes is another experience. One can get a camel ride or hire a camel cart to go around. My camel was an angry young fellow who just didn't want to entertain me so I had to join our group in the cart. By the way, my friend got his mobile phone flicked by someone. The camel tour manager assured that they will search for it and return it and it was returned by late night along with an apology by the over enthusiastic flicker. We stayed in well equipped self contained tents and had a blast at the music and dance show at night . One could carry alcohol and enjoy it under the chilly night sky with hot snacks from the restaurant. We did away with out warm clothes after setting the stage on fire with the local dancers. The early morning ride in an open jeep to see the Sunrise at the dunes had our teeth chattering but what couldn't be cured by a cuppa! Sure enough, fresh hot tea served around the bonfire settled us a bit. The paid bike ride on the dunes was an exhilarating experience. In all a great experience.Visited November 2024Traveled with friendsWritten December 27, 2024

One of the best places to visit during your trip to Jaisalmer, especially if you have young children in your group.
Location:
The museum is right on the Jodhpur highway about 10-15 km away from Jaisalmer. So, you might want to plan visiting this on your last day in Jaisalmer (on your way back to Jodhpur if that's your itinerary)
Entry fee and the overall experience:
Though the entry is free for all, I strongly recommend engaging the services of an official tour guide - overall tour takes about 60 minutes. Our tour started with the guide explaining the history of Indian Army (dates back to as early as 300 BC under the Maurya dynasty and then the Indian Army under the British and so on); the tour then goes over the exhibits of important wars fought by India post independence including the displays of tanks, war machinery, artillery etc. Our tour ended with a video that showcased war heroes and stories of war.
In summary, this is an extremely well maintained war museum by the Indian Army - providing tremendous insights into the challenges and sacrifices made by the Indian Army.

The Jaisalmer War Museum was an essential stop for us on way to our stay in Jaisalmer. From Bikaner, this spot is on the way right outside the main city. Something noteworthy is that the highways and main roads are simply amazing and it is a pleasure to drive if one is a road trip enthusiast! The War Museum is located on the outskirts of the city and is a secure army zone. The museum houses important details about India's wars, mainly about the Longewala Battle. There are recreated models of captured war vehicles, arms, and ammunition. We were lucky to be there at a time when the museum closed but the sound and light show began. The show is a reverberating reminder to all Indians about the fierce battle fought by our warriors at Longewala and it is a must for every Indian. This experience, in a way set the tone for our onward journey as we stepped into the difficult terrains of Rajasthan.

We found it is a nice place to visit. Especially kids know the importance of Indian army well. There are real tanks and other war related displays placed. Additionally, they show short movie related to what Indian army does. So, good to visit.
Overall it takes approx. one hour to visit. One small thing to keep in mind that there is a lunch break between 1:30 to 2:30. So, don’t go during this time period. It is situated approx. 11 km from the main city. So auto rickshaw person usually charges Rs. 500 to 600 for to and fro journey. Charges to see entire museum is Rs. 55 per person. I advise travelers to take guide (charge is Rs. 100 only), so that we can have a better idea about the importance of each area.

It's a must visit, to experience to witness our defence force personal perform for safety of our country.
I bought the entry ticket with audio and guided tour, which was the best decision to experience the Museum.
After the short movie, i was chocked, as it really moves your soul.
There canteen too is well maintained and quiet cheap. Food is served quiet fast and no compromise in taste.

A must visit place just on the outskirts of Jaisalmer, it's easy to spot as one approaches Jaisalmer. The museum has a lot of exhibits on the army's wars and engagements in the western border. There's also an AV show for 15 mins on Indian army.

A place full of Indian war history. There is a multi media show which every one should watch. The museum has a nice collection of tanks and other war equipment captured from the Pakistani army.Visit to the souvenir shop should not be missed, moderately priced gift and collectibles are available. Please avoid taking a guide they will rush you through the museum and you wont remember a thing. They are thoroughly incompetent and would read the information from their phone.

It's a must visit place for all Indians and those who want to understand the 1971 war. Hunter aircraft, artillery, captured tanks are on display. It's a long walk for kids and elderly who have difficulty walking (best to carry your stroller for child, walker for elderly).
Highlights
- Laungewala hall
- Sound and Light show at 6.30 pm daily
It's tough to hold back tears at the end of the show.

The Jaisalmer War Museum located at the side of main road b4 you reach Jaisalmer. The War Museum contains the vintage Tankers which took part in our victory during war in 1961 & 1971. The area is so welly maintained by Indian Army and showcased all the vintage equipment were used during war which brought us victory by sacrificing the lives of our real heroes. The National Flag hoisted in the center of the green lawn / park of the museum which multiplies the beauty and confidence in ones heart. The Museum also have an souvenir shop which sells a large variety of items at very reasonable rate with the Indian Army pictures. The museum also undertake light and music shoe in the evening and if u want to witness that, u must take different entry ticket. Nice Place u must visit.

Since, i dont have family and ladies along with me in this trip, i believe i wont waste time in the movement, local transport, eating joints and getting ready.
Please advice
