Its really superb. Normally you will not find in standard itinerary. It is a ancient cursed village of Paliwal Brahmins which they left about 250 years back. Since then this place is totally ruined and not a single family have lived here since then.
A place which holds a special story behind it and is of real historical importance..

We went over there and was not at all surprised when we noticed that we were the only group visiting the place at that point of time!!!

This is the spot which gives one an idea about the expanse of the villages which were vacated and the grandeur and wealth of the villagers. It indeed makes one wonder as to how can such a thriving and rich community just decide and execute mass exodus within a short time such that no one knows. After all even when we pack for a three day holiday it's known all over! It's a reality check over the thrill and suspense of kul dhara ..we almost get it...money and loot and tragedy and then the cover up plays along as you walk in this fort ..small but elegant with beautiful jharokas and platforms to see the villages below. It indeed is a rallying call for those living below and you can sense the power of community. If one has to feel history and not the thrill of it then forget kul dhara this is the place to be

The ancient fort of Khaba dates back to the 13th century set amid a barren desert village was once populated by the Paliwal Bhramins. This fort was once an important part of Kuldhara administration and was the first point of entry for the traders who came from the Middle East and China. Today, most part of the fort is in ruin and abandoned.

I explored the ruins of the fort- century-old artefacts, pots etc. The view of the barren desert village standing on the top of the fort is breathtaking. There is also a geological museum exhibiting fossils inside the fort. I had this eerie feeling as I wandered on the dusty streets of the barren village picturing the past life of its inhabitants.

The best part of this place is that it is not thronged by tourist, there were very few tourists when we visited this place. It is better to visit this fort during the sunset or sunrise to enjoy sweeping desert views.

Located at an approx distance of 35 km from Jaisalmer city, is a must visit place for photographer and adventure seekers.

Nothing much to see here.
But when I went I found many peacocks on back of the fort. It was worth for us to visit this fort just because of peacocks.

We reached the fort around 5 pm and the front of the fort was totally bathed in the setting sun. No human around the fort but around 50 something peacocks and peahens and pigeons. What a marvellous sight. We parked about 200 meters from the fort so as not to frighten the birds. I took my camera and slowly moved forward and the birds gave me some fantastic shots.

It is a waste of driving time when there are so many better things to do and visit in and around Jaisalmer. This "so called" fort is poorly maintained and seems like some "not so ancient" artifacts have been put up on display... the only thing ancient is the dust accumulated on these items. There is no real history to the abandoned village, which is claimed to be over 400 years old (which is not thaaat old for Rajasthan standards); and it has a pretty modern looking Shiv temple (built probably a decade ago) in the middle of it. Don't waste your time... go visit the India - Pakistan border instead - That has some great history !!

This fort is close to Sam dunes. Though this fort is small fort you should not miss it for one reasons. Peacocks. We had not know this an we just took a chnace on our way from Kuldhara village. We are surprised to find around 30 to 40 peacock around the fort. They even enter this fort. Would recommend it.

this is hardly a fort as forts go.It was not meant to be either,it was originally meant to be a kind of police station cum meeting place for the maharawal when he came touring in these parts and so it has no fancy carvings, no vast galleries etc.It is a simple stone structure absolutely utilitarian in nature.all that it has are a few pictures and posters about the paliwal brahmins who inhabited the abandoned villages below.
However if you have gone to see the haunted villages of Kuldhara the fort is well worth a visit particularly for the view of the villages from it.you can look down at the ruins of what must have at one time been a largish village and in which every house was abandoned over night when the King cast an evil eye on one of the daughters of the village.
the village is now supposed to be haunted and only the temple is standing.Go to the ramparts and stand there and look out at the scene below- spend 20 mts at it and i can assure you, you will not be disappointed.
