About
Jain temple is one of the oldest temples in Bikaner, and was built in the 15th century. It is decorated with mirror work, frescoes and leaf paintings. The temple is built of red sandstone and is divided into three floors. One can see the skyline of Bikaner by climbing to the topmost floor of this temple. It is believed that the temple was made with 40,000 kilograms of ghee instead of mortar, which locals insist seeps through the walls on hot days.

The Bhandasar Jain Temple is an ancient Jain temple located in Bikaner, created at the end of the 15th century by a famous Jain merchant, and famous for its very rich decorations, consisting of colorful wall paintings, elaborate sculptures, and other artistic works resulting from the work of highly skilled craftsmen.
The temple is dedicated to Sumatinatha, the 5th of the 24 tirthankaras (believed in the Jain religion to be the Saviors and Supreme Spiritual Masters of the "Dharma" (right path); the word tirthankara means "founder of a tirtha", which is a passage passable through a cycle of infinite births, deaths, and reincarnations, the “Saṃsara”).
The temple, a true architectural masterpiece, is built on three floors and is built in sandstone, characteristic of many buildings in Rajasthan; the yellow sandstone walls are entirely covered with frescoes, gold leaf paintings, intricate carvings, and splendid ornamental decorations with mirrors, and the lives of the 24 Jain tirthankaras are illustrated. The numerous pillars are themselves beautifully carved and painted in brilliant colours.
The peculiarity of the Bhandasar Temple consists in the fact that all the internal walls of the temple are covered with a layer of lacquer, which gives great brilliance and vitality to the paintings and carvings. This unique feature differentiates the temple from all other Jain temples in the region.
The temple is very active and also known for organizing cultural activities and religious festivals of the Jain universe.

This Jain temple is dedicated to the fifth prophet (in the Jain religion there are 24 prophets). It is very special especially if you think of other wonderful sites like Ranakpur, Palitana etc. Inside it is all painted and is therefore unique in its kind.

The Jain population of Bikaner has thinned, so the visitors to this temple are largely tourists. Compare it to the Laxmikant Temple next door, which is full of people. Bhandasar is unusual as Jain Derasars go, since it has paintings all over the walls, which makes the whole ambiance very colourful

It is such a beautiful temple. It is like an art gallery. And everything has been maintained so well. The frescoes seem like they have been painted six months back though it's hundred of years old. The place was also very neat. Reaching by own vehicle can be a bit challenging considering the small lanes of the old city. We left our car at a considerable distance and took an auto to reach the place. Must visit.

Swetamber Jain Temple dedicated to Sumatinath Bhagwan is full of intricate paintings in Bikaner. Predates the city and rumored to have been built using ghee (clarified butter) in the foundation. A must visit

Absolutely spectacular Jain temple - one of the highlights in Rajasthan. Stunning decoration and free to wander around - you need to leave shoes and water outside. Would be great if there was some information available about it. There was only a caretaker there when I visited but perhaps a small information sign or something similar would help visitors make the most of their visit.

Very beautiful interior painting inside this Jain temple. Dedicated to fifth thirtankara Sumatinatha. Calm and serene atmosphere. Photography allowed inside. It is better to hire an autorickshaw since the roads are very narrow. Cars entering are difficult. Duration -1 hour. Must visit place if ur in Bikaner.

If you are in the old city area then must visit this place .... They say 45000 kilo of clarified butter was used in the foundation of this temple due to lack of water in the area and during summers you can feel it on the floor..overall good architecture ..giving 4 stars as i have been to Jaisalmer jain temples as well and those are grand architectural marvels so compared to that this wasnt matching to that expectation but if hvnt visited then and visiting this place the. You will be awestruck

This was the first temple which allowed to take picture, unlike Jain temple of Mount Abu or any other temple of the world for that matter. And man, its mesmerizing. Such an old temple, so well maintained and looked after. The priests are kind and open minded. The architecture is beautiful, beyond words. You gotta see it for yourself to experience it..

Visited this great temple last month in old city of Bikaner near Laxminath temple. It is much better to take a less congested route from outer side. Well maintained temple under ASI. Remain open from sunrise to sunset. Oldest temple of Bikaner built in 1572 . As told by priest that its foundations had thousands kg of ghee. In summer you can see oil on floors.
Priest is cooperative & tell you every thing about temple
This temple is adorned with rich mirror work, decor, frescoes & gold leaf paintings
Other best thing is that from inside temple you can go upstairs to have great views of old city
All other jain temples have marble statues as in Dilwada
Must visit site
Photography is allowed. Videography is allowed on charges
