Lal Mahal is a major tourist site in Pune. Its name is Lal Mahal because it is a red-colored building. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj spent his childhood in this palace. Shivaji Maharaj was here for about 15 years. There are many large paintings related to the life of Shivaji Maharaj on the inner walls of the palace. Lal Mahal is open from 9 AM to 6 PM.

Besides the historical significance of the place, being the childhood home of Shivaji Maharaj ( rebuilt and not the original), the Mahal looks nice with its red exteriors and architectural style. Its a stone's throw away from Shaniwar Wada. However, it remains closed from 1 to 4 pm and also the access to the uppper floors is blocked. Hence there is very little to see.

The Lal Mahal of Pune is one of the most famous monuments located in Pune, India. In the year 1630 AD, Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's Father Maharaj Shahaji Bhosale, established the Lal Mahal for his wife Jijabai and son. The Lal Mahal is famous for an encounter between Chatrapati Shivaji maharaj and Shaista Khan where Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj cut off the later's fingers when he was trying to escape from the window of the Lal Mahal.

This is the place where Shivaji Maharaj lived in childhood. However present building is not original Lal Mahal. It has been built by PMC to remember his memories. Small museum and garden nearby. Some renovation is ongoing.

Lal Mahal, as the name suggests, is a red brick building located at Pune. It is an important historical building as it was built by Dadaji Konddev in 1640, two years after he had ownership of Pune city from the Adilshahi Sultans. Konddev brought Shivaji and his wife up there, and then built this palace. It was the childhood home of Shivaji as he spent many years there. The statue of Jijamata (Shivaji’s mother) is placed inside the palace. There is another structure of young Shivaji with a golden plow looked after by his with mother Jijabai and Guru Dadoji Konddev. Four umbrellas on the terrace are the main attraction of the Mahal. This is the place where Shivaji Maharaj cut Shaistekhan’s fingers when he was trying to escape from the windows of the Lal Mahal.

I went to Lal Mahal Chitra. The Lal Mahal is the place where Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj spent most of his childhood. The name Lal Mahal literally means the Red Colourd Palace shares an intense connection with the great Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of the Maratha Empire. It is great place to go.

Well its short of a museum , collecting weapons of marathas. you can see swords of shivaji and a map showing maratha empire. Poorly maintain and photography is restricted. Best part is its on left of shaniwarwada and near to lal mahal there is a famous temple of Lord Ganesh who is like 100-300 year old .. So if you are planning for lal mahal add shaniwarwada +Dagduseth temple+ Old ganesh temple in list. And dont ware expensive shoes as they all are spritual places.Happy exploreing pune city...!
