This place is in Alandi nearly 25 Km from Pune. Dnyaneshwar's Samadhi Mandir is the main attraction of Alandi. If getting bored take your bike/Car and visit this temple.

Such a beautiful temple, But Not well maintained. Banks of Indrayani River which used to be so Holy and clean, doesnt give that feeling at all.
Just like any other over crowded temple, this is the one. and you hardly get to see St.Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Samadhi for 10/20 Seconds. if we consider Only temple, Then certainly it is a Good place. Such an Old temple. People in the village are nice though. they make you feel that you have come to an holy place. You get a Nice Tea at Amrut-tulya, Just next to the temple :-)

Just 17Kms from Alandi, another village called Dehu (Dehu gaon) is situated where you can find St. Tukaram Maharaj Mandir, Gatha Mandir and Vaikunth Mandir. Also you can find The house where he used to stay. St.Tukaram Maharaj temple is another Good place. Very much calm and Quiet place. Well maintained. Mandir has a very beautiful Murti (Statue) of God Vitthal - Rakhumai. Just a kilometer away from this temple a new temple Gatha Mandir is being constructed. (Construction is almost 60-70% done) This Gatha Mandir is going to be one of the favourite Tourist attraction near future.

Nice weekend trip. Just 90-100 Kms To-n-Fro from Pune City.

SANT SRI JNYAANESHWAR MANDIR, ALANDI, NEAR PUNE

Laxmi and I got terribly disappointed by not being able to cover our planned visit to Pandharpur during our recent sojourn in Pune. But something told us that Sant Sri Jnyaaneshwar Maharaaj's holy temple - where, as an ardent devotee of Lord Sri Panduranga, he had attained Divya Samaadhi - was very close to Pune - about 26 kms away at Alandi. That settled the visit to this most ancient and worthy place located in all its pristine glory by the banks of the Holy River Indraayani. It did not take us much time to realize that it was due to the true benevolence of Lord Sri Panduranga Vitthalnathji that we have been blessed with HIs Darshan right in the abode of His devotee Sant Sri Jnyaaneshwar Maharaj, while we sincerely regretted missing our trip to Pandharpur! How happy and elated we felt! Not only that our faith in the Lord had leap-frogged further, but our admiration and astonishment at the deep faith and power that the Santji Maharaj commanded from the Lord knew no bounds! As for the Temple, the Saint had amply inspired us to develop / augment our devotion to the great Lord Panduranga Vitthalji whose benevolence is indeed immeasurable, as the Saint himself proved! My mind responded instantaneously by humming a tune, culled out from my old memory, which was dedicated to the Saint: "Jyoth se jyoth jagaate chalo..o..o..o...Prem ki Gangaa bahaate chalo..o..o..o” - from the HIndi Film of yore "Sant Jnyaaneshwar"!

I visited this pilgrimage place once and found out to be beautiful and historical. The tower at Indrayani bank is attractive. There was a good arrangement for darshan of samadhi. There is a large free parking place and shops to carry mementos. During the festival of " Palakhi" lakhs of people travel on foot from Pandharpur ( St. Tukaram Mandir ) to this Samadhi. Do visit once when you are in Pune.

I visited the temple when i was in pune on a business visit. The temple is situated on the banks of Indrayani river. Sant Dnyaneshwar attained samadhi in Alandi after translating the Bhagavad Gita. The temple was built by the varakiri sect and it is one of the old temples in Pune. The temple is located in a very peaceful place. The temple staff never tried to mint money from the devotees. What i liked about the temples in Pune and Pandharpur is that the devotees are allowed to touch the idols of the Gods. It is a taboo in south india to touch the idols. I saw a lot of people reading Gyaneswari, quietly, under the tree where Sant Dnyaneshwar attained spiritual knowledge(gyan). The place was little messy other than that it is an excellent place to visit.

Local ppl said on Asadhi Ekadasi, there will be procession with the feet of Sant Dnyaneshwar on a 'Palkhi' from the temple to Pandharpur.

Why am I giving it just 3 stars? Because unlike other famous places of religious nature, this lacks basic facilities like a place to keep shoes, wash hands and is not very clean. Moderately crowded with generally local crowd, what was most disgusting was that women were using brooms to clean the flowers and sweets being offered as 'prasad'. Hindus in their homes will dare not touch the temple/statues of God with a broom, and here she was dusting them with it, which was deplorable, but probably acceptable in the local culture, as no one seemed to protest.
But at the same time, this evokes religious feelings and does not look like a place for minting money, very unlike Shirdi or Tirupati. Its a quiet place, where people read Gyaneshwari under the tree where Sant Gyaneshwar is supposed to have obtained the gyan. The main temple has figurines of Sant Gyaneshwar and his parents. Darshan was quick, even on sunday in just 30 mins, when we arrived around 4 PM.
Overall, its a nice religious place and very peaceful. I would recommend it more than Shirdi, as a matter of personal choice.

This is the place where Saint Dnyaneshwar (Jnaneshwar) did his penance and attained the holy blessing by Sri Panduranga and created one of the extraordinary work called Jnaneshwari.

Alandi is on the banks of Indraini river which is considered very holy equal to river ganga.
