The water of The Papasnanam Beach/Varkala Beach is very Sandy and Salty. It's very difficult for anyone to be in the water for more than 5-10 minutes. Also, the shopkeepers on the beach are not very friendly to outsiders esp non-local Indians.

Beautiful, serene and secluded beach. The beach is super clean. You get umbrellas and chairs on rent. Stunning sunset or sunrise view point. You can also spot dolphins when the it’s not too sunny.

The beach is rarest of the beaches in India in terms of beauty. One can see the hills reddish and the nice beach along with. Its frequented by foreigners and is accessible via road, railway as well.

It be nice if you book a hotel near the Papanashanam beach where you intend to perform the rituals. The public toilet is not good and I would not suggest it. The beach is always crowded. Please book a hotel for one day... More
