View is amazing . There are so many cafés over cliff. Access may be little difficult for elderly peopleVisited November 2023Traveled with familyWritten November 25, 2023

- snmishraBengaluru, India105 contributionsLovely Beach in KeralaLovely white sand beach I've seen so far in Kerala. One can spend hours on the beach on swimming, water sports or just sitting quietly looking at the waves. Enjoy the view from the cliff and the food available there. Not very crowdy and you'll find many non Indians enjoying this place. Good place and you can plan for a day here.Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 1, 2024
- Meander602467576229 contributionsA unique place, lovely.Lovely beach, amazing view. You got to be careful with the water as the tides are usually very high and current is strong. But it generates very powerful high waves, a must watch for beach lovers. You can spend quality time and then you have plenty of evening option for meal and drinks nearby. A must visit for one who love beaches.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 20, 2024

We stayed on the south cliffs above the beach. It was a long trek down the stairs to the beach but pretty much worth it. The water is clear and warm. No dangerous currents to speak of. It was better in the mornings when it was calm. Often the wind came up in the afternoon and the waves became a little to big and chaotic for comfort. You can rent a beach umbrella for about 200 rupees which is worth it since there is very little shade. A nice experience.

Super clean and relaxed vibe. Can have fresh pineapple and coconut right on the beach for an unbeatable price. Chairs and umbrellas for rent also well priced and not overly crowded. Great spot for swimming!

Varkala to me is a very nice place to relax, eat good food and enjoy a relaxed atmosphere.
From October/November until around March, the beach is great - especially if you like to play in the waves, and the weather is nice and sunny. Warm? Yes! I would say around +30C more or less 24/7. Great when the heat is combined with a nice breeze from the sea!
This year the beach was not very crowded, so there is lots of space for you and your family. The beach has life guards - feels safe.
See you in Varkala!

If you love beaches, you should definitely visit Varkala beach. The main attraction here is the cliff. It's very easy to reach here. Varkala Sivagiri railway station is within two kilometers range and bus services are available to here. And also it's an easy access from National Highway 66.

Really nice beach with an amazing cliff where you can relax i the chaotic India. There are lots of people, but since it is a very large beach you can walk 15 to 20 minutes and be alone (something very difficult in India). There are also lots of options to have breakfast/dinner
If you are looking for party this is not the place.

Beautiful beach. Varkala beach is a hidden gem. Awesome cliff, views, unbelievable sunset, sky changes into different colours and designs. I haven't seen the sky changing like this anywhere else, especially during sunset. Clean beaches and not crowded during weekdays. Deep-sea sunset trip is life changing, you get to jump in the middle of the ocean with a life jacket. A trip to varkala beach and you will cherish it rest of your life.

My favorite place in Varkala for a massage, henna tattoo and mani/pedi. Reji and her husband Achi are a local hospitable and professional married couple running the beauty parlor. Reji provides the various treatments and henna tattoos, and Achi offers massages. Having visited Varkala several times, I have never found a better massage than with Achi. I truly recommend this place, it really stands out in the crowd in Varkala.

I used to go to Varkala Beach for a month a year before Covid. It was fairly quiet with plenty of expats in and around Coffee Temple and a little more busy on weekends with locals from the city.
Did you see many expats as I get the impression they have stopped going.
Also a lot of comments about rubbish on the beach, its often the case but I think it may have got worse.
Would appreciate comments from anyone who has recently been.
Would you go back ?
