What a vibe you get while just simply watching the paramashiva tall status. We visited early in the morning and we were amazed with the ambience. No more words to describe.

In the early 2000s, Aazhimala was a hidden gem, the ignored cousin of the globally popular Kovalam Beach. Not anymore. It is now a tourist hotspot, thanks to the unveiling of a 58-ft tall sculpture of Lord Shiva.

The Shiva Temple itself dates back to the 16th Century, but skyrocketed to fame after the statue came to be. And depending on where you are viewing the sea from, you’ll either be impressed by the detailing of the face or captivated by the flowing locks of hair on the deity. Either ways, this work of art will take your breath away…and sure adds a touch of mysticism to the beauty that Aazhimala is!

If you're going for the temple, do early morning, or near-about 4.30p.m. before the crowd walks in.

If you're going for the beach, anytime is good. Since it's a cliff beach, there is a lot of shade through the day. The view of the sea form the clifftop…the waves shattering over the rocks…the sprays that lightly hug you over and over again as you stand there and stare at this wonder…it’s a feeling that cannot be put down in words.

The Aazhimala Siva temple is approximately 25 kilometres from Trivandrum and 9 kilometres from Kovalam beach. The statue of Lord Shiva is magnificent and is built on a rocky cliff with the sea as the backdrop, simply awesome. It was crafted by a 28-year-old artist P. S. Devadathan, a resident of Azhimala. The attention to detail is awe-inspiring. Unfortunately, the temple was closed for darshan in the afternoon and we could not offer our prayers then. The facilities for devotees could do with some improvement including cleaner toilets, so that visitors do not experience discomfort if they stop for a longer duration.

This temple has become famous for it's installation of one of the best forms of Shankar Bhagwaan - at the shore! Picturesque and grand are understatements when you visit this! Must visit for people visiting Kovalam

This temple was not on our itinerary but since our driver suggested it we went there and it was a hidden gem. The shiva statue is so beautifully done that it will leave you spellbound. It’s location which is just above the beach is beautiful. There is separate entry charge to go near the idol.
